Just a thought. We can't know how this situation will develop so there is a chance that season will not be finished. So in that case one potential solution is that this season is canceled. In that case we would again play in EL but Liverpool would stay on 18 titles.
So would you be happy with that? Personally i can't decide. So much pros and cons.

Edit: feck it. EL is not that bad.

Why would us be given a CL place though? Last seasons standings we’re 6th, this seasons we’re 5th. So the question is should Liverpool be given the title, and the answer that is no.

I think he's making the assumption (quite a big one) that Man City's European ban will stick and their spot will go to the 5th place team.

And that team is Arsenal.

And if that were the case then Sheffield United would have a lot to say about it given they've got a game in hand that, if they won, would put them fifth. That is not to mention all the other clubs in the league who have their own concerns over relegation, various qualifications etc... such a mess.

How Arsenal?
1) If season is canceled then we go on EL because we were 6th last year.
2) If FA decide to use current standings (so from this year's season) then we are 5th and IF City ban stand we go in CL.
3) If season kicks again then Liverpool will confirm title and we will have a chance to catch CL spot

In first two situations it is a huge huge mess of course and raises lots of questions.

Which team was 5th last year? That was the statement because if City ban, 5th place take over

Anything to prevent a Liverpool title, short of us winning the CL, is worth it.

If season is canceled then we go in EL. That was my original statement. City ban in that case doesn't concern us. If FA decide to use current standing and by that give Liverpool title then we are 5th and then we need City ban.

Imo, i doubt that after one month it will be clear to play. Using current PL situation raises a lot of questions and even court appeals. Except Liverpool who is 99.99% champion, everything else is in doubt. Why would Wolves or Arsenal accept it? Norwich? Villa? feck, why would we accept it? And in that case FA can't give Liverpool title despite it is clear as a day that they will be champions. You either cancel whole season or you don't.

Just throw in a few option.

1. Bundesliga would probably go for No Champion, use last season standing.

Serie A would go for 1 of the 3

1. No Champion

2. As it stands - no way, right?

3. Play off

But if there is time for playoff, then we might as well finish the season even if 5 game in 2 weeks. I think postponing Euro to 2021 should be nice, such that international games can be cancelled in coming 6 months. So all leagues have until end July early Aug to finish the season, if not then Neville need to buy a few more champagne.

Don’t forget if they reset the entire season, Leeds would stay in championship as well.

Its an easy choice for me, I’d watch another year of us playing on Thursday nights if it meant Pool don’t win the league and Leeds don’t get promoted.

We aren't winning CL anyway so what's the point of playing in it?

Liverpool losing the title it is then.

I think it's very plausible that domestic football will return before european football.

It might save a few headaches too.

Just void this season. Start again when it is safe to do so, but have no european football for the first year. Then you qualify as normal.

feck knows what you do with the winners spot and Europa League winners spot. Presumably they'd use the 2018/19 standings for that

EDIT - This is the wrong thread. Us playing in EL and Liverpool not winning the title please.

In my opinion:

Restart the season in September - end in November. Then have the next few seasons run March-November until Qatar. Run a special (one off) European super league in Feb-June 2023. Then back to August- May seasons that year.

Not ideal, but no other solution is fair.

This. Burn it all to the ground and start again.

It's easier to cancel this season and start a new fresh one in August.

If the season cannot be completed it has to be voided. Simple as.

They won''t get a choice really.
I'm sure there's lawyer salivating as we speak at the prospect of representing Leeds. This could be worth £100m for them, you don't let that kind of money go without a fight and as we now know, the EPL didn't have the foresight to plan for such an event or clauses to allow them null the season.

It's going to get messy.

Think if the season gets cancelled, they should do a year without champions league/Europa league and just avoid the rest. Yeah Liverpool have all but wrapped up the title, but how could anyone give them the title before it's done, when the top 4 race is so up for grabs (hence cancel European competition for a season), but also relegation and promotion being such a big fight right now? Taking the standings as they are would be a terrible idea as teams like us for example have an incredibly easy schedule, having gone through literally all our hard fixtures already (bar leicester and Spurs away). Compare that to others like Leicester who are the complete opposite, and you just can't take standings as they are.

It's a shitshow whatever the case if they cancel. They'll need to postpone everything for however long and then finish the season (and then start transfer window after that, whenever it may be).

Would gladly take another season in the europa. As already mentioned it effects Liverpool (fantastic) Leeds (equally fantastic) and the added bonus after there recent upturn in form and being in and around the play-off places those poznan dancing shithouses from Sunderland will be consigned to another year in obscurity. Put that in there next documentary.

I think that's what has to happen, its the simplest and least problematic solution, just like 1939 and the outbreak of war.
If you go down the path of postponing and delaying, then the rescheduling just collides with other events in the calendar and creates even more problems.

Lots of businesses are going to lose money over this pandemic, they will all be expected to deal with it in a socially-conscious manner, football clubs will be no different. And when 1000's of people are dying in every country, who's really going to care about the plight of a few football clubs crying over missing out on trophies or promotion?

To avoid messy situations, whenever football continues, this season would need to be finished first. Even if it is 5 months from now, the priority would be to finish this season. Start a new one giving a months break in between. Possibly cancel Carabao Cup and use those timeslots for additional PL games to complete the season in time.

To answer the OP, anything for Pool to not be given the title. If they don’t win this one, it might shake their belief towards ever winning one. As it is, CL football isn’t guaranteed for us. We still had to perform consistently over the last 9 games or win the CL.

Says who? The strongest team in the world right now is Liverpool and they aren’t unstoppable. We could very much be favorites next year if we strengthen well. If we bought Bruno in the summer we would be second place right now.

You are looking at just EPL, what about other leagues, many of them decide to void last season.

Delaying start of next season to early Sep is possible, such as cancelling next season's League Cup for example.

But wrapping up THIS season must be completed by end July early Aug, the latest. So if the league is not ready to re-start by mid-July then no way it can be completed.

So if you won the lottery yesterday, a £100m jackpot lets say, and then the National Lottery suddenly announce this afternoon that they are withholding all money and instead donating the entirety to help research into coronavirus vaccine. You;d accept it in a socially-conscious manner?

Ye, perhaps.

I'd except voiding the season over taking current league standings.
