Club ownership | Senior management team talk

Ratcliffe did propose Ruben Amorim join the trip, too, but after discussions, United’s co-owner accepted that the team’s head coach needed to be with his squad exclusively in the build-up to a fixture that marks the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign.

Kind of bizarre this. Amorim had to actually have a discussion with SJR for him to realise and accept this? Surely SJR must have seen this himself and if so why not do the meeting last week or something.

It says in that same article that Ratcliffe chooses locations further away to have an informal atmosphere, removed from an office or work environment.
 which just so happens to be where ever he is holidaying. The next meeting will be on a beach in the Maldives followed by a transfer window roundup on a yacht touring the med - just to keep it informal of course.

Perks of being a billionaire owner.

It’s also worth noting that people like SJR are very busy people and even their personal leisure time is tightly scheduled.
As the head of a multi-billion $$ corporation, SJR has a lot more going on in the way of business matters than just Utd.
It’s not uncommon for business executives to fly to where the main honcho happens to be, for meetings, even if they’re on vacation.
As such, nipping up to Iceland and back is entirely feasible within a working day.

The man is a billionaire and has invested billions. He gets to call you for a meeting wherever. You’re probably going via private jet and be in and out it in a day as well. It’s the world we live in now.

This is probably being blown out of proportion anyway.

I think you are taking my comment a bit too seriously. Chill.

Yeah, he basically owns them all and they should be eternally grateful to him for permitting them an audience with him.

Nothing says informal like a Safari in the Serengeti!

Why does SJR have to be present for transfer bids?

Why is he inviting Amorim fishing during pre-fecking-season?!

Because he owns Utd and rivers in Iceland, this is primetime Salmon fishing, when you are over 70 and have the wealth he has you do what the feck you want. Fly the feckers over tell them what you want and have a nice fecking time doing it. Face to face in a beautiful environment eating and drinking while going for a 100cm salmon can really do wonders for morale. Watch them come back energized and sell and sign players like there is no tomorrow.

I can see alot of criticism about this.. but this is how business is done.

Alot of business owners, high level business is done in a casual environment.

There is a reason why investment bankers etc... have alot of golf days where they discuss business.

Its quite normal really.

Joking apart you are 100% right. A number of people I know have golf days on this basis, and I'm lucky enough actually to get to go to some nice afternoon dinners (slight piss ups to be honest) based on this as well.

I think the most surprising part for me is the expectation Amorim would be going.

Seems a bit fishy to me.

Yep, and if you are rich enough to have a cabin or something in a fishing village, even better right?
When you have a meeting in the offices, its quite rigid and you have 4/5 hours to discuss just the club.

In a relaxed environment, you have almost all day, so its casual topics along with business.

Amorim would have been invited to discuss transfers but the club probably knew he would rather stay with the team.

It’s probably no different to various meetings between club executives and owners, going on all over Europe at this time of year.
That’s not to mention officials from various clubs, intermediaries and player agents, flying all over Europe (and beyond) to have “talks” or “negotiations” with other clubs.

.

SJR probably made Wicox and Barrada travel over in an old Grimsby trawler to save a few quid. Catch some food for the canteen on the way home.
You don't save money in Iceland, it's a very fecking expensive place + Iceland won't have forgotten the Cod War, they'd sink a trawler!

Would opinion from those defending INEOS be the same if those that invested in the Glazers were American hedge funds and not Jim Ratcliffe, the local Manchester lad and apparent Man Utd fan?

Its a very long time since Ratcliffe has been a Manchester lad, an can only becalled that through boundary changes since he was born, as for being a Man Utd fan, I ask the question would a true through and through Utd fan attempted to buy Chelsea and put money into Spurs coffers.

5 sponsors haven’t renewed
Make that six now, Melitta have ended their partnership with the club. We were selling dual branded products too, so that's going to hurt our bottom line a bit more. Still no sign of any new partners to replace any those that we've lost.

In addition, we've lost around a further 5 regional financial partners/banks who were issuing United branded credit cards and products, which the club would have received a cut from.

This is the lowest number of commercial partners we've had in over 15 years. It's grim and I don't know how cutting the commercial department will help replenish those lost partnerships.

So pre-season starts tomorrow & so far all we’ve managed to do is sign one player by paying his release clause (which we also tried and failed to negotiate) and sold absolutely no one.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. INEOS are making the Woodward era look like the glory days. Fair play to the Glazers though, bringing in a team so incompetent they make them look smart in comparison is a genius move really.
How are you feeling now? Cunha and Mbuemo signed, Rashford moved on. Reports we are targeting a centre forward and centre midfielder.

Mbuemo was a dream signing for you I know.

I think we’re still absolutely miles off where we needed to be at this stage. So many positions still need sorting and so many players still need moving on. There’s a lot of work to do.

Individually, I’m really pleased with the Cunha & Mbuemo signings. I think they’re fantastic players who should, in theory, hit the ground running.

I agree but I think realistically, and without European football and the extra financial gain, we are par for the course in terms of what is achievable.

I expect more signings but also this to be reflected on outgoings. Not really the fault of INEOS.

United needs go back to basic which are:

- Developing our young players
- Letting go young players who is maybe later developer (inserting sell-on clause)
- Buying players who has their best years ahead (e.g. Cunha and Mbeumo)
- Sell older players when their stock is high (we will regret not selling Bruno)
- Stop giving out big contract (Rashford, Casemiro, Sancho) which makes it difficult to move
- Stop buying players from clubs that manager previously managed (Antony, Onana, Martinez).
- Stop buying players with injuries problem (e.g. Mount)

Doing these basic will make United a great club again. Years of mismanagement by Glazers has made us a laughing stock by our rivals. Time to do the right thing.

Absolutely nailed it with this post

- Stop buying players with injuries problem (e.g. Mount)
Mount had missed about three months' worth of games in six years of first team football before we signed him. I'll never understand why posters on here so regularly chime in to let us know how they saw his injury issues coming a mile away.

People having a problem with buying him for big money on the last year of his contract, fair enough. People having a problem with where he'd play (and Ten Hag's midfield one formation generally), fair enough. But no, he wasn't an injury prone player short of a medium-term knock in his last season, and he only missed about as much football as Amad did for us last year. Nobody could have seen the level of injury issues he has had with us coming.

First of all, he was starting to have injury problems. Lastly, who will buy a player who is in his last year of contract for more than 50 million. Whoever approved ETH recommendation is damn stupid! Mismanagement all round!

I’m sure as long as they’re not Arab, I mean oil states, they wouldn’t mind.

States should not own football clubs. Whatever nationality or ethnicity.

I'm really not sure what's so difficult to understand about this and why people wonder why others aren't keen on the idea.

Thoughts? I didn't read the whole article

If remotely true, another final, final, final nail in the coffin for our home support.

This is ultimately why they want a new stadium really. You're slightly restricted on how much you can rip everyone off at Old Trafford.

This is also where fans need to come together. We need to collectively fightback against these new policies.

Can we stop this.
Nobody is defending INEOS or Ratcliffe.

People appreciate they've inherited a shit show whilst also being critical of them getting various decisions wrong.

Short answer: No.

The way the "local lad" Jimmy Brexit was hailed when he bailed out the Glazers should be preserved for posterity.
