Club ownership | Senior management team talk

No I won't. That's the record INEOS are playing. We've all heard it before. Remember when under the Glazers we would be seemingly "in for players" but not actually be willing to pay what was needed to get them?

Being constantly in long transfer sagas but not actually being serious? We're definitely acting like that this summer again. INEOS turned into the Glazers.

INEOS act exactly the way it was expected in fairness. Looking at their other sport ventures and considering the fact they only own a minority share this was unfortunately always the way it was going to be

It's a shame people couldn't see it. Many turned their nose up to the Qatari offer, but he had pledged to buy all of the Glazer shares AND make the club debt free.

How would this transfer window have been if the club was debt free? We'd have signed two top midfielders for sure.

Yeah I wonder why?

Worked ok for PSG and their fans.
Worked well for City too but it's not really the point if it works or not. PSG could win 10 CLs in a row and still I wouldn't want that. But the state owned argument has been down to death here so I leave it at that.

Thanks. I'll take the 10 CLs in a row and leave the geopolitics to the Governments.

Well I've got bad news for you, you can't. Not how that works, you want unlimited transfers you can have bad bits that come with state own teams.

I've never seen or heard Man City or PSG fans complain about winning the treble or the Champions Leagues. Which state doesn't do bad bits? UK?

Fans of teams winning don’t mind winning as if thats evidence that there’s no problem. I'll give you an example. There are credible reports that Abu Dhabi official have communicated with the British officials about City’s 115 charges, would you be ok as a United fan if a City get of lightly and deal is worked out because of it? That is what I meant about you've no choice but to take this side of state owned teams.

The point wasn't about which government does or doesn't do bad things, how many of them own football teams. How many football team abroad does the British government own?

Not really, if we let him go without the £30m+ fee then he’s easily getting paid off by the team acquiring him.
No body is giving him 300 k wages a week even if we release him , he is not good enough unless he moves to Saudi or Qatar he would be lucky to get even 200 k per week even as free agent teams which can afford to pay those kind of wages in Europe simply don't see him as starter .

You place too much stock in consumer journalism

He has only two more years on his deal so you could basically give him a £10m - £15m signing bonus (instead of paying a fee) and then sign him at £150k a week or so which plenty of teams could very easily afford and would be willing to pay.

Jesus Christ, some of you lot would sell your granny if it meant more trophies for United. Get some morals
We had the Glazers for 15 years. What can really be much worse? It is not that they are angels. People just love to create their own truth to feel good

With the news that Jeff Bezos and a couple of mates are going to buy a significant chunk of Liverpool Football Club and making the clubs value around $6bn, I think it would officially make the Glazers price out anyone buying MUFC. They would want $8-10bn easily.

This is what I find difficult to understand with regard to the Glazers and their motivation for holding onto the club. They've taken out dividends of about £160m but if they sold United for say £4bn, they'd make way more, each, than they will ever make in dividends, unless they're all planning on living to the age of about 250.

And who is going to pay that?

Horrifying

What I'm finding increasingly weird about this forum is that it's probably more negative than this time twelve months ago when we were on the back of a 15th place finish.

There's basically a new thread each day with someone having some mad almost existential crisis thoughts about the state of things.

I despise the Glazers and Ratcliffe but it's all very odd at the moment.

You can dislike aspects of the club and the sport as a whole without seemingly questioning why you're a United fan.

Ye maybe because when things seem to be going on the right direction… we finish the season strongly. Get back into the CL. The managers isn’t getting backed fully again. Carrick and his coaches have actually shown they can at least implement a style of play. They’ve shown some positive results… so it’s down to the owners to now actually back the guy and let’s keep moving forwards.

Asset appreciation. The main component of their return and it is how LBOs deliver value if Successful. Dividends (and some management fees early doors) is just useful pocket money but the vast majority of their return comes from leveraging the small initial investment into what they get from selling their shares. The will have realized some of that return already. There, no doubt, will be tax advantages in getting most of your return in the form of capital appreciation as opposed to dividend income.

We've had several seasons after reaching the Champions League where we've wasted hundreds of millions on absolute shite.

There are many reasons to hate the owners of the club.

There are reasons for be concerned about the direction of the club.

Being more careful in the transfer market and not going crazy just to "try and win the transfer window" like most clubs do isn't one of them.

Not supporting the club anymore because we're apparently not showing ambition like one person on here said is just weird

I hope the Glazers see what's happening at Liverpool and realise its time to take action before we get left behind and lose out status as the countries biggest club

Of course they do, being left behind and losing status will reduce the amount of turnover the club can make which inturn reduces the amount that can be paid out in dividends
As long as we can qualify for the cl they're happy

Added to the fact that they want a king's ransom for an indebted club facing a huge stadium rebuild. So they would ask someone to pay $8bn, expect that someone to inherit their debt, rebuild the squad, fund the new stadium and all the while keeping Joel and Avram around. We are really saddled with the worst leaches around.

Ratcliffe, for his part, I don't understand why he went through with this if he never intended to acquire full control. Because, as things stand, even in the unlikely event that he wanted to inject more capital he wouldn't because the Glazers won't match his input and they wouldn't want to dilute their control in that transaction either. So we are stuck until they find someone willing to offer them an amount they find too big to resist.

Amazon aside the only hope would be Elon Musk. Missed the boat again!
The supporters will be replaced by bots with a blue tick.
I’d rather see United relegated to League two than have that tedious goofy grifter scammer anywhere near the club.

My Pick for a ruthless billionaire owner would be Citadel’s Ken Griffin.
Type of guy who will sacrifice his granny for success.

Ineos are on their third summer transfer window so far and only one of them has been good.

If anything, this summer suggests they got very lucky last year and normal service is resumed.

We got rinsed by Bayern buying two of their injury prone squad players off them in Mazrouei the homophobe and De Ligt.

Lenny Yoro was awful last year too and we were frothing at the mouth with excitement at paying north of 50m for an unproven teenager because his agent pretended a Madrid were in for him.
Good relative to recently. Mbeumo has been a huge disappointment for me after a strong start getting by on goals alone and not that many. Cunha has been hit and miss and Sesko who I love seems injury prone. I like all 3 but without big progress this year all will be below par.
In terms of other clubs interest one the best assessments for how they are doing. Think someone would take Sesko as a young striker with big potential but would be worried about injuries, no one would be in for the other two. Our comparisons are just Hiojland, Antony, Sancho, Ohnana etc. we need to remember how far we have fallen under the Glaziers and now Ineos otherwise it becomes the norm as it is for fans that only know the last 12 years or so. We are the only dominant mega team from last 10/15 years to fall this far and worse to be surpassed by teams that we would normally dominate. Bayern, Real, Barca all still right at the top. Fighting tooth and nail. We have no interest in being top dog which should be unforgivable.

Agreed, last summer's window receives a lot of praise but did it bring us players who will be key players in winning titles?

We paid expensive fees for players in their prime, but didn't solve our issue against deeper defences (even losing twice to teams with 10 men).

If they turn out not to be good enough to win the league or CL, then they need replacing. However they may be hard to sell if no one would want to match the wages they are on here.

Their agreement not to take dividends after the Ineos buy-in was only for 3 years
This is one of the interesting sub-plots in the glazer / ineos era. What happens if the Glazers want to take dividends out? Nothing to stop them, but feels it would undermine what Ineos are doing on the operational side of things.
