"His mama name him Clay, Imma call him Clay"

"Awww man you ain't EVER met Dr Martin Luther the King"

Things I want to see in Coming 2 America.

-
Cuba Gooding Junior to reprise his cameo role in the barbershop thirty years later.
- Soul Glo brand still trying keep the Jheri curl alive.
- Akeem finds his long lost son working at the McDowells. "My son WORKS?!"
- My-T Sharp barbershop is still in business.
- Randy 'Sexual Chocolate' Watson struggling to fill a venue doing benefit gigs.
- Akeem is now wearing the lion sash.

- Arsenio reprises the secondary character role of Reverend Brown.
- Snipes is in this one as General Izzi.
- Directed by the same guy (Brewer) who did My Name is Dolemite,
-
John Amos back as Cleo McDowell
- Shari Headley back as Lisa McDowell
- Murphy states that he believes this one went far and above over expectations on the account of fans telling him not to, "f**k it up".
- And finally, the royal penis is still clean.

I hope they get this film right.
As a kid, I used to watch this weekly, sometimes daily. I probably didn't even understand what the story was about, but I watched it anyway.
I still regularly watch it 2, maybe 3 times a year and still enjoy it, so I just hope they don't ruin it.

Also, great to see James Earl Jones in the line up.

This and films around it's era were proper comedy. I like today's comedy, but it's mostly over the top stuff.

Put it this way, this sequel is PG13.
That doesn't really mean anything. The original if it were released now would probably only have to have been slightly toned down in language to have got the same rating.

What does suggest it's bad are the multiple bad reviews.

Considering Coming to America is one of my all time favourites, I really want this to be good but expect it’ll be shit.

the only positive is dolemite was good, so hopefully he’ll do it again

50 mins in I am done, can't finish it, it's pretty bad. I watched the original countless times on my VHS, one of my favorite Murphy movies. This is just a big nope.

Not even remotely so. There is not even a smidge of funny writing that was in the first one in this one. Eddie Murphy was the one carrying the first one, he is only in the backdrop in this one.

And now looking at the ratings, they pretty much reflect that. Not saying people shouldn't enjoy it, each to it's own, but it's not even close to the original. I cringed when they tried to just copy some jokes from the original.

R is 18, right?

I don't remember the original being particularly rude or violent. A pair of boobs is about as "bad" as it got.
I believe R is anything above a 12.

In America it's either just PG-13 or R... nothing in between.

Not to defend the rating system, which is ridiculous, but there's no way stuff like this would fly in a PG-13 film:

There were also a lot of fecks. Two would be too many for the puritans.

It was a "15" in the UK, which seems about right.

I watched when it came out on video the UK, which would've been about 1990 so I was 12.

I remember getting the "Delirious" stand up on video for Christmas one year as a kid. My parents gave zero fecks about ratings!
