I genuinely have no idea why he even took the Spurs job. A rash decision after United snubbed him? I don't get it. They're so well below his level, it's not funny.
Because he's moaned himself out of an elite career.

Based purely on coaching quality he'd have the pick of top jobs but very few think he's worth the hassle and he's clearly never going to change.

He’s got some shite to work with at Spurs. I think their squad is as bad and disjointed as the Utd one.

I’ve seen Spurs fans quite worried that he may jump ship this month if his signings aren’t made. While I can’t see that happening it wouldn’t be beyond the realm of possibility to see him say ‘feck this‘ and leave after the last game of the Spurs season, even if they get into the Champions League.

I‘ve said it before but I think he is basically a regen of 2000s Jose Mourinho, but a lot more moany to the point hardly anyone is going to touch him, unless it’s a national team where transfer demands aren’t a factor or some oil rich club that desperately wants to be up there like Newcastle, who will throw carte blanche immediately at him.

Conte makes Jose look like Ancelotti. Also he doesn't have the record in Europe 00's Jose has to help the elite clubs overlook his flaws.

Is there not just the possibility that he's not actually doing that good of a job?

Or are we not allowed to say that because it goes against the narrative that we should have appointed him, and therefore it has to be entirely down to the players (who he is literally the manager of).

I haven't seen them play well under him yet. Undefeated in the league but largely because of being let off the hook by the opposition and a completely ridiculous refereeing display against Liverpool. They aren't getting near 4th the way they're playing and the first leg of the league cup SF and their last Europa Conference game were just hilariously bad. If United played like that under either Rangnik or Ole there'd be so many knives out Idris Elba would die just so he could roll in his grave.

Not sure. Not playing well but grinding out results in the league is kind of the best Spuds are ask for with their squad. He needs a Summer window before he can be judged. In my opinion, 4th or 5th and he has done well; even if the performances aren't great.

Hard to know with the crap Spurs put out to play. That backline is relegation material, Sanchez, squad player at best, Tanganga, just a kid, Doherty, rubbish, why Spurs even brought him in is beyond me. Royal, first season in the league, finding his feet and getting used to a knew culture, team, style of football. The only decent player they had at the back was Davies. They played well vs Liverpool tbf to Conte, Spurs probably had the better chances in that game. Have not really watched many of Spurs' matches that are not against top half of the table opposition, but will take your word they have been rubbish in them.

Spurs have a good attack when Kane is firing, Kane, Son, Moura is pretty good tbf to them. But the midfield is poor outside Hojbjerg, Skipp is young and just another Hojbjerg, Winks a squad player, Lo Celso and Ndombele are injured or coming back from injury 80% of the time. Even when fit Ndombele looks disinterested, I heard he wanted to leave, Spurs should have sold him. Alli was only ever good in that Muller style role just off the striker, been rubbish anywhere else I have seen him play.

Spurs' squad needs a big overhaul, who is Spurs head of recruitment? Should have followed Nuno out the door. Hojbjerg the only one I can think of who has walked into the team and was an instant improvement in the past say, 3 years? If Conte is not backed or Levy pulls out of a deal for a player Conte really wants because of an extra 3mil or something we should see some fireworks and a Conte/Spurs implosion. Will have the popcorn ready.

He's not even waiting for the success before dropping the mask this time!
Strange that spurs upper level are interfering though. They knew what they were getting and can't afford to not be all in on his methods.

Shambles of a club really.

He is just a coach. A brilliant one. His job is to bring the best out from his existing players. It is the club's/DOF's job to build a competitve team. I don't know what is promised or agreed prior to his appointment between him and Levy. If the promise is not kept, then he may walk away. I am sure Conte know it is a big rebuilding job in Spurs, but he can't do magic and do it alone.

He is doing a good job under the circumstances - the circumstances are (and I'm not exaggerating) that outside of our first 11 we have one of the weakest squads in the league and we need major upgrades on some of our first team positions as well - mainly RWB, CB, CM and RFW in particular - oh and we still have no back-up to Kane or indeed anybody in the squad who could play up front with him properly. The squad is a shambles and it's going to take at least 2 transfer windows to get it anywhere near close to top 4 level - probably more (3-4 is more realistic).

Whether Conte is willing to stick it out that long I have no idea but what I do know is that if Levy doesnt back Conte with signings and Conte walks, the fans will properly lose it with Levy and he is going to get booed out of the stadium every single match.

Sounds like Conte is very subtly laying it out there that he'll be looking elsewhere if Levy doesn't fund him.

Few bits about that he'd drop them in an instant to come to United if we called in the summer too.

Imagine if we did that though, when we could have brought him in immediately.

you don’t have a midfield issue, you have a mentality issue. Today is a prime example, your saying you lost a 2 goal lead because of your midfield? Did you watch the game?
Can mentality turn Fred and McTominay or Matic or whoever into a winning midfield?

Perhaps Conte would have thrown VDB or someone on sooner.

Never mind the summer, we should call now

Would he be able to solve our midfield issues without signing anyone?
Yes but even still, we should sign a CM

Because he isnt a long term solution for us either. The whole point of interim is to give us time to plan the next manager, not hire Conte for 2-3 years and sack him.
We haven't won the league for fecking 9 years including this one. Absolutely disgraceful by our standards.
Feck long term solutions, we need to start winning now and Conte was the man for the job

Yeah like he didn't took Juve from 7th place to 1st straight away.

Chelsea finish 10th, he made them champions.

Inter was 4th, he made them second i his first season, and then make them champions next one.

Also Conte leave the clubs/players in superb condition after he leave and this can be seen in all of his previous club. He build great team for the future and know how to coach them well.

For example some trainers leave ruins after they left.

Different times. City, Liverpool and Chelsea are the best 3 teams in the country. That was not the case at his past clubs, where he was in the mix at the top.
Juve hadn't won Serie A for 9 years until Conte came along and he won it at his first attempt.
Inter waited even longer, 11 years without a league title win until Conte.

Chelsea were in complete turmoil when Jose was sacked yet Conte turned it right around in no time at all, winning the league in his first full season.

The man is a legendary manager and would have taken us back to the top. He would settle for no less.
A serial winner

Close to 4th with 3 games in hand, with a shite squad.

We should have gone for Conte after 5:0 defeat with Liverpool at home.

Any club with half a brain would have seized that opportunity. And now we would have been comfortably top4 and calmly hoping for champions league finale or something.

But no, we had to give more time to Ole and bring some old dude from Moscow fecking Locomotiv.

Ugh. United is the source of so much unnecessary stress. Why do we even do this to ourselves

Hiring conte is just putting a band aid over a wound so deep its like you got shot by an anti aircraft gun. He probably resign ashley young and then in two years time the players would throw him under the bus like they did Mourinho and Ole, who are like conte in that they are counter attacking managers.

Yea if we got a PL or CL out of it, but that a big if. City, Pool and Chelsea make the PL tough and then all the top teams in Europe make it tough.

The impression i get with the club now is that they are trying to change the whole culture to a more attacking philosophy and that will take time. Get Ten Hag or Poch in the summer.

I’m afraid not going for Conte was just another blunder from Utd’s hierarchy, and there is really no need to nitpick and whine 24/7 on this topic, also considering that Spurs’ squad is farther away from the top as well, even more than United on paper… just move on, keep supporting Rangnick and live with the choice you made.

How are Spurs even further away? They have a point more than us, with two games in hand. What are you even talking about?

No, we are moving away from this way of playing. It's going to be an extremely slow and painful process but we will start dominating games very soon.

Conte would definitely have got us top 4 or even more, probably won a cup next year but we will be back again to square 1 , after him.

Ahhhhh yes that argument, it’s other teams that are shite , Conte has done a great job since he joined us only a little bit before RR joined United.

Spurs still beating Utd to 4th this year under Conte, unless Levy doesn’t sign anyone, in which case Conte walks before the end of season.
