It's like they didn't treat him as a living being. You wouldn't choke cattle marked for slaughter like that, much less for so long. For all the rightful outrage about shootings they at the very least are still volatile high pressure situations, where there is at least a shred of a benefit of a doubt that allows you to make a bit of sense of them. But this is something else entirely. And it says something about the relationship between the police and public that four officers aren't fazed at all by being filmed choking a subdued man who says he can't breath. At that point already they have taken things waaay too far already and proven themselves unfit for duty imho.

We had a cop on this forum who referred to people he had arrested or knew had been dealt with as oxygen thieves or wastes of space or something. A couple of posters expressed concern at his dehumanising comments and I think this case shows why. A cop who doesn't see the man he's arrested as a citizen who is entitled to due process. Instead he decides he can do whatever he likes behind colour of authority and he just doesn't treat him as human at all.

America is a sick country.

Bit harsh.
And their actions aren't? You just watched one of them murder someone public while the other three watched. And this is just one of fecking thousands incidents of brutality and criminal actions. Those cops are fecking pieces of shit and guaranteed they will be protected by a blue wall. Is it right to die in that manner?
This is where all the cops usually wade in with their lame ass justifications, 'bad apples' mantras, quoting police law, always more going on than at first sight, get the facts before making any judgements, it's a thankless job etc., etc. kind of statements.

There was another cop who posted on here that when apprehending black males he is more alert to the situation and will take action quicker because they can generally run faster.

Seriously though, why haven't they been arrested? It's impossible to claim that was a legitimate use of force, so there must be some criminal culpability surely?

Its such a backwards country. You have to worry about being shot at school, or affording to pay for medical care, and the police go around murdering citizens if your the wrong colour.

The greatest country in the world apparently.

Mobile phone cameras is one of the most important inventions in the fight against police brutality for black people in the US. They've been shouting about it from the rooftops for decades but people simply could not believe an officer of the law could do the things the black community said they'd experience on a daily basis - with no video evidence it always came down to he said/she said and once the PD put out their statement, it was over, case closed.

Even in this case, despite video evidence to the contrary, the PD still put out a press release alleging that this fella was "physically resisting arrest so they had to physically restrain him (which doesn't give them the licence to kill the man, but it's an old tactic that has worked for many decades) and once they noticed the "medical distress" he was taken to the hospital where he later died", completely omitting the fact that he knelt on his neck suffocating him and thus murdering him - without video evidence that statement would have been the accepted version of events and these officers would have been back on patrol the next day without as much as a warning, whilst the family of the dead man receive no justice.

You only have to look at the Rodney King incident and see how the cops wormed their way out of that to see it's been going on for years. Catching that beating was a rarity and a real scoop at the time. Even though the video was shocking, their lawyers used all sorts of mumbo-jumbo to justify the excessive force used against him and they got off.

No wonder Los Angeles burned when those pigs were acquitted. Yet 30 years later, here we are.

You cant paint them all with the one brush.

What your doing is the exact same as a cop racial profiling.

This guy needs to be charged with manslaughter or murder or similar, that doesnt mean the next cop you walk past would have done the same thing.

And I'm all out of bubblegum.
You cant paint them all with the one brush otherwise youd call every mexican and coke dealer for example.

I don't agree with him, but those aren't equivalent examples. Mexicans didn't choose to be Mexican, but cops chose to be cops.

I've seen enough police stand by when their colleagues are basically doing something that would warrant a jail sentence for a civilian. A large percentage of the are clinically obese also.
When an organization allows this to continue then yes you can tar them with the same brush. Same with child molesters in the church.

I’ve said it before but they’re a different kind of breed in the states with their “policing”. This is an all too familiar occurrence. This might be one of the worse ones yet because anyone with a shred of common sense or decency wouldn’t shove their knee into someone’s throat whilst their head is pressed against concrete. Let alone when their hands are cuffed. There’s genuinely worried people around too, pointing out the guys deterioration and they barely check, sickening. I’m not expecting repercussions, there don’t seem to be any for the American cops who do this sort of thing which is precisely why it keeps happening. And once again over some fecking poxy offence, “forgery”

Maybe say it one more time mate... don’t think they can hear you

Video is awful. Can't they see the distress of the onlookers never mind the actual guy to see that this is going very south? And then to continue to kneel on him when he's completely unresponsive. Sickening.

This happens far too often, something really rotten to the core. I'm guessing these murderers won't see any jail time for this?

Signing bad cheques, allegedly.
They don't even have the "defence" of him being arrested for a violent crime. Face down in the gutter with a knee pressed on your neck for alleged forgery. Unreal.

Passed out and pissed himself and the cop still wouldn't budge. If that guy gets off it could be the catalyst for some serious rioting over there.

And i wouldn't blame them, a day has to come where enough is enough.

You can’t say “not every cop is a bad cop” when the ones who aren’t committing these acts are standing by and watching it happen, or when it happens they never speak out about it or condemn it.

Being complicit to these actions makes you just as bad as those performing them, and that’s why I will happily say all police in America are pigs and are bad cops.

I don’t get the comments from people at all trying to justify the cops by saying “what did he do though” - even if he was a paedophile that had done some truly harrowing/sickening things - the police aren’t there to kill people. This is straight up murder and there is absolutely no justification.

Problem is its just so tiring when you see it every day. Almost every cop I interact with is a goon at some level. They have that insecure need to assert dominance and look badass. Mix that in with those who also have hate and its a bad combination.

You shouldn't generalize but its so dumb to say this is the same as racial profiling. You dont chose your race unlike joining the police. Its fair game to judge someone for that just like I judge folks joining the military.

Sadly, here we are indeed.

The central park white lady situation is also another example of the invention of mobile phone cameras have been a blessing - without video evidence the police "could" have arrived on the scene, accepted her version as the true version and proceeded to arrest the man, as they would have in the good old days, or worse case scenario immediately view him as threatening, at which point the man's life is in grave danger.

Whats rotten is the whole system of police recruiting in the states in general.

Go to some random middle of no where town and have a 10 min discussion with a cop your IQ will plummet

Recruit from the military then equip them like soldiers and it's no surprise that they treat everyone like an enemy.

Would be interesting to see how the RW spins this one. Fox News "journalists" are probably already on the case, trying to dig up the victims past.

It’s funny that the Joe Exotic documentary on Netflix actually shone a light on this recently when people discovered that he used to be a cop.

What annoys me so much is that people keep trying to half-assed justify this shit. "He wouldn't be arrested for nothing, he was probably guilty". Or they'll bring up his past.

All that is NO reason to get killed by the police.

I've watched some of the US police training seminars as it's quite often private companies that do these usually ex cops/military and its pretty much their told assume they have something that will kill you, so make sure you are ready to react quicker.
