Staggering stuff from Connah's Quay and their manager (former City player) Andy Morrison and don't really know why it isn't being given more traction than it is.

4 players tested positive and along with another in quarantine.

Then before their game last night three players reported not feeling well and the managers response was.....

"Three lads have turned up tonight and they're not well.

"And it's like 'lads I don't want to hear it. I can't hear it tonight that you're ill, please like you know. Let's just get through it'.

"I've been told that before the game and we've had to turn a blind eye to it and then you would have never noticed that anyone there tonight wasn't feeling great."

Is there a chance cases/deaths flare up again during winter and football across Europe has to shut down again?
No chance at all or a possibility clubs should prepare for?

I can't see it, they've now got the resources to put footballers in a bubble through a lockdown if it truly comes to it.

"Today (Monday 21st) we received formal confirmation which shows that a number of our first-team squad have tested positive for COVID-19.

We have informed the EFL and Tottenham Hotspur and will make a further announcement regarding Tuesday’s match shortly.

We have also informed Mansfield Town, Plymouth Argyle and Oldham Athletic, our three most recent opponents, prior to the public release of this information.

Leyton Orient’s priority is the health and well-being of its players and staff. Those who have tested positive will now strictly follow government self-isolation guidelines.

The Breyer Group Stadium and training ground facilities will be closed until further notice."

Apparently, as a sensible precaution, Spurs paid for the Orient players to be tested. I'd expect our match with them tomorrow night to be called off.

Really feel for Leyton Orient. Undoubtedly they could have used whatever TV money could have come from facing a high profile club like Spurs plus they were going to sell the game worn shirts for charity.

Hope Spurs can help them out in some way. Even if it’s based on a pre-season friendly next year or something.

Also believe Kane helped them out last year. With paying for a charity shirt sponsor or something.

I can see games getting cancelled at times but no way another shutdown.

" BBC News understands the government is poised to scrap plans for the return of some spectators to sporting venues next month. Pilot events have been taking place - with a maximum attendance of 1,000. "

Never say never. Football is ok to continue as long as there is spare capacity to park a few dozen ambulances, crews and doctors outside the grounds every weekend. So far hospitalisations are manageable but if the system becomes overwhelmed again they won't be able to spare those resources.

It's the correct decision to not allow fans in at the moment but it's going to kill off loads of lower league teams.

The FA needs to act now

Act how? The FA also losing £300m+ from this situation.

The general economic situation is going to be dire with a D and football going to suffer along with everything else. Valencia published a report suggesting club revenue could fall about 50%, that seems a reasonable worst case scenario all premier league clubs should be planning for as well.

Good news for fans is football will go on even if much less money to go around and lots of clubs fold or fold and get reformed, ultimately just 22 players kicking a ball around and you don't need billions of pounds to do that. Maybe not comforting if you own a club or one owes you money though.

No fans until March now, going to be huge consequences for lower league clubs and for the Premier League too

Proper shame this, fans returning was probably my biggest excitement for this season, as much as we are lucky football is up and running, there’s still that soulless feel seeing the seats empty... I have no idea how City cope year in year out.

Yeah, huge implications. I read yesterday the National League was not starting until fans were back. Wonder if they'll change their minds or what will now happen.

It's ridiculous, especially for certain stadiums where you don't even need to pass an indoor area/concourse AND there's little evidence of major spread outside.

There's a couple of things they (with the help DMCS) could do straight away to help the lower reaches of English football.

1. Allow small crowds in at National League & National League North/South levels. If teams at tier 7 and below are allowed crowds in of 600, there's no reason why they can't be allowed at tiers 5 & 6. Especially when most of these grounds are bigger, making social distancing a lot easier.

2. Allow some clubs to withdraw from the league for a season with no punishment beyond relegation to the league below. This means they save money on football costs and can maybe even use the clubs facilities to make money in other ways. This would be a last resort...

As for your final point. A higher % of clubs from Non League and even the lower reaches of the Football League going out of business ultimately causes the FA huge issues down the line with league allocations.

This story is so fecking crazy.

The Guardian understands that Mansfield plan to lodge a formal complaint with the EFL, arguing that Orient players should have been tested before Saturday’s match given their manager, Ross Embleton, revealed there were a “number of people suffering with illnesses” in his pre-match press. At the time Embleton stressed it was “not a Covid issue for any of us to worry about” and after the game he revealed that as many as “nine players” were struggling to play because of a “bug”

Covid hospital spots and Covid based Nhs staff could be overwhelmed. The rest of the NHS won’t be. Private ambulances, nurses and doctors won’t be overwhelmed. It doesn’t work in this one fits all way that people seem to think. I’m sure this was explained repeatedly in June in this thread and people were arguing against it then.

This one isn’t going away anytime soon, if ever. Have to wonder when it’s going to end/back to normal.

makes football a lot less exciting to watch aswell, no fans. No soul.

Good luck finding a private emergency ambulance and private A&E close enough to every stadium in England. Various services were reduced in the first wave and they will be reduced again, and further, if the second wave is worse.

This story and the fact that the game has been postponed with potentially Spurs going through without a ball being kicked and SKy withholding £125K from Leyton Orient just shows that there is little assistance for the football league teams.
If this had been the other way round with Spurs not able to fulfil the fixture then I highly doubt the rules would have been held as rigourously as they have now.

This second wave was easy to spot a mile off. People can sit in close quarters in pubs and bars for hours with no mask. If you want to go to the supermarket you need to wear a mask though. It's exactly why I avoided pubs, bars, restaurants and clubs since everything reopened. It was horribly handled and planned now the problems are going to be here to stay even longer.

Maybe Chelsea bought to early. Transfer fees might plummet in Winter.

"West Ham United can confirm that David Moyes, Issa Diop and Josh Cullen have returned positive tests for COVID-19.

The Club’s medical team were informed of the test results as the team were at London Stadium preparing for this evening’s Carabao Cup third round tie against Hull City. The manager and both players immediately left the stadium and have returned home.

All three, who are asymptomatic, will now follow Public Health England and Premier League guidelines and protocols.

Everyone at West Ham United send their best wishes to David, Issa and Josh.

Tuesday’s match will go ahead as planned, with Assistant Manager Alan Irvine taking charge of the team."

Bit shite to have your manager get it. Will he be able to call in during the games from home? Wouldn't really be fair if he wasn't.

What I cannot get my head around is how these clubs are not subject to any contact tracing. Testing all the players is only one step of stop the spread in general. Plenty will test negative early on after an exposure and all of their teammates should be entering isolation as they are almost certainly contacts from training and/or matchdays.

The likes of Connah's Quay and Lleyton Orient have to be hit with substantial fines and/or competition for being so blasé about this. It's complete negligence.

I wouldn't at all be surprised to see restrictions tightened further around professional sport. It's too lax right now. Allowing international players to return without quaranting doesn't seem very sensible right now.

It's remarkably shit how the UK are handling this. Sure let's let the game go ahead and risk dozens of more people getting sick.
