Batting

The great Viv Richards leads the line up with a 100 against his name in a WC final. He was pretty much the best batsman in world ups until Sachin came about. Sangakarra, one of the best players of all time in any format and Martin Crowe, player of the tournament in 92 WC, further cements the middle order. Crowe was phenomenal in that world cup both as a player and a captain. Ganguly and Johnson open the batting. Ganguly, an all time ODI great, has exceptional ICC record while Johnson proved his mettle in 99 WC with great performances against the 2 best sides in the tournament - Oz and SA. Watson will play the role of enforcer/finisher in the line up with support of Brendon Taylor, who was absolutely brilliant for Zimbabwe in 2015 WC with aggregate of 405 runs.

Bowling

Alan Donald, Zaheer Khan and Damien Fleming is an excellent trio of pacers. Donald was consistent for SA in WCs as his records reflects while Zaheer Khan had a great world cup for India in 2003 (despite the poor performance in the final) and was possibly India's second most important player in 2011 World cup win. Even in the 2011 final where his final figures were not good due to leaking runs in the end, he pretty much set up the win by choking SriLanka at the beginning of the innings. Mushtaq Ahmed takes up the role of spinner having played the same role in 92 WC win for Pakistan with excellent figures. Watson and Johnson join the line up with both capable of bowling 10 overs each. Other bowling options are Richards and Ganguly making 8 bowlers in total.

Summary - 10 out of 11 players have better record in ICC tournaments compared to their career one. (Border Donald too). Overall team has great pedigree in terms of historically great ODI players with match winning performances in world cups.

Two great teams here. Went for Crappy as I prefer his bowling and I'm struggling to choose between the awesomeness of those batting line-ups.

Come on guys! On a world cup level my bowlers are some of the best to ever appear!
Your bowling is underwhelming both in terms of numbers and quality. Jaya as 5th bowler with no realistic 6th bowler option is weak. Jaya and ten do are part time part timers.
While other that front 4 I have to proper all rounders in Watson and Johnson and even Viv + Ganguly are better options than your choices outside 5.

The game is gonna last for 50 overs. My first 4 bowlers will bowl their full quota of 10, that leaves 10 overs for jayasuriya, doeschate and Jayawardene, that's more than enough.

Anyway, the bowling is secondary because you ain't outscoring my batsmen! I'm batting comfortably all the way down to 9 with high scoring rates above 75 for all of them.

Batting wise, I have better balance. I know Dravid batted at similar position in 2003 but I would still want him in early. Misbah n TenDo at 6/7 is meh and not the finishers you would want.

I have Ganguly up top, his ICC record is insane, better opener to have that Gilly for this draft. Sanga is 3rd in most wc runs list and then the great Viv. Crowe needs to get his due in this draft for his magnificent 92 WC too.

Sanga, Viv and Crowe is better 3/4/5 than the opposition 3 of Pointing, Jaya and Dravid.

Can't recollect Dravid playing much at no.5. How many appearances does he have overall at no.5
It's close at ICC tournaments; 14 apps at #3 and 11 at #5. He has 698 runs, at 58.16 avg. and 81.63 SR at #3, with 542, 67.75, 68.78 at #5, so he scored more comparatively lower down but did so a fair bit slower. I prefer him one down, like he was in 1999 when he was the tournament's top-scorer, but was pretty great at #5 too.

I think crappy is being harsh on Misbah and RtD but you can't argue with Taylor/Watson at 6/7 for awesome finishing ability. However I also think Ganguly being a better opener than Gilchrist in this draft is hotly debatable, given Gilly's awesome knocks in big world cup games in '99, '03 and '07, but even if you prefer Ganguly I don't see him and Johnson as a better unit than Gilly-Jayasuriya. Both 3-4-5s are ridiculous; it almost comes down to personal taste but I'll give crappy the nod because I prefer Dravid at #3. It is very close though.

Gilly averages 36 while Ganguly averages 60+ for this draft, that's too big a gap. I don't think it is debatable at all that Ganguly is a better option for this draft. Jaya is better than Johnson will give you that. After that Pointing is the main standout from his line up and Viv from mine. Sanga was better player than Jaya and even in ICC has better records. Even in 2011 WC the latter scored a smashing century in the final but overall Sanga was Sri lanka's best batsman that edition. Even if we ignore debate over Dravid at 5, Crowe is simply better than him in this format and for WC performances. We are talking about man of the series player here.

Same analysis can be done for bowling, I have an edge over both clear as a day IMO.
