Yep, the Aussies definitely don't need Steven Smith in their T20 line up.

If today's game against Pakistan is anything to go by, Australia are not going to be putting up much of a showing in the coming T20 World Cup. Xavier Bartlett's cameo at the end made today's game look a lot closer than it really was.
Another disappointing showing from the Aussies. Their batting especially has been extremely poor.

@zing that must be it for Samson?
Yup. I really like his batting when he’s on form, but he is just so unreliable when it matters. Reminds me of Dinesh Karthik. Strange now to even have him in the World Cup squad.

If you remove his 3 hundreds which happened over 4 matches, his stats are very poor. If Tilak is fit, this is an incredible batting order. Sundar is likely out.

Anyone from the caf going for any of the matches? There are a load of minnow games in Chennai. Thinking of going to Afghanistan NZ next weekend.

I know this is aimed at the Indian contingent but the way these 'global' tournaments are marketed particularly in Asia are absolutely useless to get overseas fans travelling over.

Tickets are still not on sale for next weekend’s New Zealand game or the knockouts. Even if someone wanted to come, they can’t.

ishan just walked out with the keeping gloves.

Jesus - I feel like people have given up even complaining about it.

Are you worried about Bumrah? He's never looked so hittable in this format. Going at 15rpo today

I think he’s not as good as he used to be. He has around 2 out of 10 games where he gets smacked these days whereas it used to be more like 0 for a long period.

That being said, he still bowls at his peak in several of those games. So for that reason and the fact that we have a very balanced bowling, I am not worried. Varun is elite and on form Bumrah level, Arshdeep is very good and Axar is good enough to be a specialist spinner for most teams.

The bowling does not worry me at all. It was actually the batting that was worrying because Surya didn’t make runs for two years and openers seemed flaky.. two things that no longer look problematic.

We just need Varma to recover. He is our best batter. He is pencilled in for the World Cup warmups.

We will be in a group of death in round 2 though. I think it’ll be be a very good World Cup from that point on.

Ishan, Abishek, Varma, Surya, Pandya, Dube, Rinku/Sundar, Axar, Bumrah, Varun, Arshdeep.

The Aussies batting looked awful again. I think Cooper Connelly managed 1 run in three innings.

Just read that today's 111 run defeat is the biggest ever in T20 by an Australian team. The previous worst loss was by 100 runs vs England in 2005.

Good, let the ICC get some financial hit for the sh*t the BCCI constantly stirs. Hope we stick to it.
Agree. Indian public doesn't want the game either. It's pure greed. Both countries are better off not playing each other right now.

Has the sentiment changed in the past year? I wouldn't purport to say anything about Pakistani public since I don't live there anymore.

The fact that the ICC (to make money) always seems to finesse the draw so there is an India Vs Pakistan group game doesn't help. It gives a lot of negotiating power to those countries.

I have no idea why they haven’t picked Steve Smith. Bizzare stuff.
Since the last T20 World Cup in 2024, he's had 25 innings, averaged 50 (6 fifties, 2 hundreds), with a strike rate of 156.

cricket is a dead sport commercially. Yes they’re rigging the draw but if it adds a quarter billion as reported today, which exec would say no to it?

Just read this quote from Mark Waugh.

"Australia can still win the T20 World Cup but there are worrying issues. Several batsmen are out of form at the wrong time (Maxwell, Inglis, Connelly) and several key players are carrying injuries (Ellis, David, Hazelwood) and our best player Smith is not in the squad."

Do ICC really lose anything financially? I think it's just the broadcasters, and if that's the case, feck them

Finding the reaction to Pakistan’s potential boycott strange.

Surely the only people to blame for this whole situation is BCCI & ICC (who now are more of an extension to BCCI). By allowing India to move their games in Pakistan a few years ago- which was completely political- ICC set a ridiculous precedent and this situation was inevitable. The correct option at that time was to decline India’s request and if they did not want to play then to replace them in the tournament.

I can’t see this situation improving anytime soon.

I was there for 2 months right now. The rich don't care, the poor do and politicians take for a ride.

But overall sentiment is no - we are happy for it to be canceled (rightly or wrongly)

He's quite promising, that kid.

unpopular opinion, but the kid at 3 Ayush Mhatre in the long run will be a bigger success imo

Chennai Super Kings in the IPL had an injury and he slotted in for 5 games last IPL. Loved his batting

He's 4 years older though? They're almost an age group apart.

They didn't score enough in the end - England might chase this down. 150 in the last 25 was poor from that position

Yea he is. It's just a guess. Both have debuted for their red ball state teams.

Vaibhav plays for Bihar. In Ranji, there are two divisions, and Bihar's in the lower one where the quality is junk. He did well there too.

Ayush plays for Mumbai, and has one or two centuries in Ranji knockouts already. Mumbai is also a tough team to get into as a batter, it's the home of many great Indian batters. He is a great strokemaker.. plays a bit like a classical Sehwag. Vaibhav bludgeons it.

Ayush is expected to open this coming season for CSK.

Good to see England making a game of this final for now - but chasing scores this big can go wrong VERY quickly.
