It's interesting because I would say that's probably the opposite of how a lot of Spurs fans view him.
He's been generally very good since arriving, for both Spurs and Argentina.
This season though he's been crap and has been at fault for a large number of the goals we've conceded.
VDV has a higher ceiling.
Yes, there has been a couple of games this season that due to Spurs not getting results he went too many times upfront and risk a bit too much or be in some ocassion over the top agressive in his offensive approach, not in his marking, he is a td more calm after his last episode against Enzo with CHelsea, but I can't recall a bad season from him since his debut in South America.
His worst problem in late years was getting injured too many times and coming back from those, he even played the WC Final injured.
Regarding VDV higher ceiling, everyone it's entitled to their opinion and I really like the Ducth a lot and I get it in some sens. Also Romero's personality goes both ways, it's not someone to be loved or liked by rivals and he is older than VDV, yet already a WC winner with a huge personality, that celing it's already high.
I'll say that the young Dutch is faster, really fecking fast, great pace, but Romero is a tad better with the ball, specially with better passing and that both are really great when comes to defend and be proactive. Romero also has quite a good scoring ability, in fact being the EPl defender with more goals last year. He must score more with his feet thought, he has a great shot in him and so far a bit unlucky of not having more golas and more assists.
I never felt Spurs are a place for his type of mentality, you lot are a more conservative side, the fella sometimes can go over the top in his need of winning, he is like a 70's defender in modern era.
