:( I value his goals, always have and always will but I'm not sure at the age of 37 you build your team to play to get the best out of Ronaldo. Needs to be rotated more, Start fewer games and get used to coming off the bench - near impossible when you are viewed to many (including me) as the GOAT.
It still amazing and commendable for someone in his age to play at this level. He is truly one of the GOAT of the game, and that will not change.

However, that does not mean you build a team around him when he is 37. The team should build around the young players (Rashford, Sancho, Greenwood, and even some of the academy players) and he should be a mentor for them.

I have same opinion with Messi too, both of them are in a career stage where they need to adapt a role in their team not the other way around. The faster they admit that fact, the longer their run in the top level will persist.

Ronaldo's tantrum aimed towards his manager at the end of Portugal's defeat illustrate why he's not mature enough to be a captain. The man hates to lose but come on, save it for the locker room! I do kinda feel for him, both sides he plays for are horrific to watch

I watched last night's game, and there is something that really happens with every team he's played in last 5 years or so - his teams really likes to play shite football. Never in control of the game.

I think he's also personally still pissed about the dodgey no goal in the other Serbia game. Knowing you scored in the other game and it wasn't given and then to lose to a last minute goal must have been properly shit.
Ahh almost forgot that one quite surprised it didn't make much of shitstorm seeing the the effect that dodgy refereeing decision had

Good point, the last time his team played great football was when Madrid won the double in 16/17.

What's his PR people going to talk about today?

3 months from being 37 years old.

:)

Just like Portugal, another below average performance.

If all you can do now is score goals (no passing, no hold up play, no crossing, no link up play) - you have to take those chances given to you.

Not the first time he misses these chances.

Honestly, please can we see cavani as our first choice striker again.

Sorry but ronaldo and messi are hurting the rest of the team they play in to accommodate their inevitable decline

I thought he was one of the only players to stand up and show fight today. Didn’t have his shooting boots on but didn’t shy away.

You’re obsessed. Give it a rest man. He had a decent match, showed some fight, made a brilliant assist and could have had another for Bruno’s chance after his skills on the wing.

I couldn’t give a damn about stats or about pressing or about last minute goals...when he starts the oppositions back line have the freedom to relax and it allows opponents to settle and gain confidence. The team is unbalanced if he doesn’t have a strike partner. Ole knows this.

Why should I listen to you? You think he hasnt deteriorated as a 37 year old player when he is a very basic player who can just score goals for us now and nothing else. Yet I'm the one who is obsessed with him when Im the one complaining and your protecting him.

Yes I agree. He Sancho and DVB and Matic to some extent are the only ones that showed fight today.

So obvious- our only goal game when Martial was moved centrally in the middle and Ronaldo was at LW.

You clearly have an agenda. Ronaldo was almost playing DM first half. 37 and playing so deep because the nitwits in midfield couldn't get the ball to him. One good player comes in after being ostracized for no reason. Bam! Assist. You are incorrigible. This team is not well coached and its not because of Ronaldo.

I barely post about Ronaldo unless I’m celebrating a goal. You’re complaining about him after almost every single match - considering you’re 58 years old it’s a bit concerning to be honest.

Of course he’s deteriorated but he’s still a world class player. And he’s not just a former great he is THE greatest of all time.

Love Cristiano but he could've had a hat trick today. If Martial misses those chances I am having a meltdown. Can't not apply the same measure to Ronaldo. Should have been 2-2 before Maguire's brainfart.

That's amazing.

It’s weird. He’s called me obsessed twice today and I barely post here either. On Ronaldo today…yes the quality was lacking in terms of finishing but he assisted the goal superbly and if Bruno wasn’t absolute trash….he could have had two assists

I thought he played above average today, which is still better than most everyone else, missed a sitter that was offside, but put one in that was offside too. I liked what I saw today, Beek seems to not be afraid to put a nice through ball to him. From what I saw from Beek in the 2nd half, he'd start, for me.

I will take, any day of the year, Ronaldo having 3/4 chances every game rather than none. Today he missed some, but that will be the exception, not the rule. But like this, with some good team play, and him having a free role in the front, he has more space and if we keep creating 3 or 4 per game for him he'll be helping the team a lot in return.

He also had an assist, and put it so well to Bruno in the 2nd half, and Bruno rugby'ed it.

He is feeling more rushed in his shots with every game.

The PL is too fast for him, 1 goal in his last 7 games.

I believe all the videos and articles seen him that he causes us this change in problems.

You don't believe it. That's totally fine.

I come here after every random game and the guy gets so so so much protection its incredible.

I get called obssesed whilst people can complain about all these other players - I do it about Ronaldo and then people want to come and shoot me

The protection he gets is incredible.

I get targeted for believing him not being good enough anymore to start every match like Juventus fans did - and I get targeted saying I have an obsession?

Was better at creating chances today than finishing them, unlike him.

Your talking about the chance he created as a LW then crossed in to Bruno right?
That, and his assist for VDB yeah, think he cut it back for Bruno too when he put it over the bar. Like I said a weird performance for him, he’s usually deadly in front of goal but less interested in creating.

He's Ole out. Those finishes and his offside for the disallowed goal were criminally bad. If that was Martial

The discrepancy between your posts here and those in the Messi Vs Ronaldo thread is odd. It's like two different posters.

Yeah he is - but Bebe, how do you analyse that play - I thought he could only shoot and score goals? But I count him outpacing the Watford player first (at age 37, sorry, 36, my bad), then wrecking him with a body feint, then putting it on a silver platter for Bruno. Not bad for a 37 year old, eh?

I have never seen someone take such a U turn on Ronaldo like you. I remember you adoring the dude in the Messi Vs Ronaldo thread for years. I don't understand the pounding you do on this dude every single week he doesn't score a goal. Also had an assist? Hmm.

It's not like he had a world class game but he was certainly one of the bestin the team today, in my sincere view.

There's too much nostalgy around Ronaldo, unfortunately, only the strongest managers could afford to start him off the bench. And you can say Ole is one of the weakest ones.

Terrible finihsing today, on a better day, when our team is sorted, he couldhave converted those chances, but without converting he's not adding up enough, you would feel.

Which was also from LW - at that moment Martial was the central player. Ronaldo did his traditional LW/LF headed goal - this time as an assist.
I mean, he's in a striker's position for that goal. Bit of a deluded comment really.

All I'm going to say is no top pundit is blaming Ronaldo solely, unlike yourself. It's a collective effort and primarily on the coach.

Said it before, every player really can't be judged under our current management, until a new manager comes in and actually creates a system.

This isn't me defending Ronaldo, I think you're dragging this way too far and it's like everything is his fault from your perspective. It's really really not.

It's not that I don't adore Ronaldo - I still do.

But ultimately I believe he is a tactical problem at the age of 37 being a player who starts every game and we try to get the best out of, in the worlds hardest league.

Things deteriorate. All things do. Ronaldo for me is good enough to be part of the squad but him being arguably the main man of Manchester United starting 11? Not for me.

He is old and playing a position he never played even in his prime.
If Zidane found his inability to play as a central striker by himself- why do people think Ole would do it or anyone else?

Ronaldo is still amazing for what he is doing for his age - but that is not the epitome of what we need as a striker at United, just because he is doing well for his age doesn't mean ita necessarily good for us - wrong positioning, no pressing, no link up play, no passing, hardly dribbling in the centre, his runs are better towards the left than Central or right.

There's this overhyped bit of Ronaldo that people think he is this United/ Real Madrid player when he isn't. Everyone gets blamed for him only scoring 1 in 7 games apparently but not really him.

The best way this overhyped thing is explained - is how people think Zidane would be salivating to manage him again. Like why? He is 37. He wasn't deemed good enough as a ST upfront by himself in his prime, he is going to come here crave to play Ronaldo in a partnership whilst dropping all our wingers to the bench just to get the best out of him?

I just don't see it.

He was in the 6 yard box. At the moment he created the chance for Bruno he was the central player. You can’t have it both ways.
