Cristiano Ronaldo - 965/1000

Have they? Romano said it’s done.
It got over the line but Ronaldo did throw up a strop about it.

Benzema won the league last season, probably didn't want him to win it again as he hasn't won a trophy in Saudi yet.

Teammates for years at Madrid, and now at Al-Nassr..... and Ronaldo carries on like this. Crazy.

Just couldn't care less about anyone and anything other than himself.

Not that it takes away from your point but they're not teammates in Saudi.

Every time I read about yet another thing he's done, I'm genuinely glad I chose to be on the better side of the Messi Ronaldo debate. The man is embarrassing beyond belief.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again the debate ended (or should have ended) with Messi’s World Cup win…and Messi was better than him before that!

On topic there must be somewhere he can go to get his remaining 39 goals if he has to leave his current club. I’m sure Luton Town or Norwich would love to have him.

Complaining Al Hilal get all the investment is none sense anyway, especially considering Al Ittihad won the league last season and Al Ahli won the Asian Champions league. Both spend less on players and wages than Ronaldos team Al Nasr.

Al Nasr also has double the wage bill of the second highest team (Due to Ronaldo himself). What a clown.

Looking at both teams, quite a few well known names in that squad! (Al Hilal)

Didn't event realise Theo Hernandez signed for them in the summer. Would be a great player for us, only €25 million.

But then you see he's on around £350k a week. Guess we are coming away from those types of contracts.

Let's have it right his behaviour on his return to United totally derailed our progress up until that point. We had to totally change the way we played to accommodate him.

Reality was he was close to being finished then and he was kicking off when subbed and rested.

Cavani was shit on because he was actually persuaded to stay another year.

Even Bruno was impacted, he lost his pens and his whole game became about getting the ball to Ronaldo rather than a team effort.

He's a narcissist of this highest order, Portugal could win the world cup if they were brave enough to leave him at home. Taking him means he will play and the side will just keep crossing balls in the box to him when they are one of the most creative sides in football.

39 goals to go. Don't think it'll happen until after World Cup so at some point early next season, possibly towards the end od 2026. Then retirement in 2027 until he decides he wants to play at EURO 2028 - 24 years after his debut tournament for Portugal

The really interesting thing about this isn't what it says about Ronaldo, but what it says about the Saudi league. Where success is a function of how the PIF chooses to distribute its investment between the four league teams it owns.

They could if they had a proper manager instead of that spoofer Martinez.

EDIT: Apparently he’s throwing his toys out the pram because Benzema has a deal to join Al Hilal (a rival for the title) and they have suspended the deal cos Ronaldo aint happy joke of a league.

They've stopped Benzema transfer to appease Ronaldo... What a way to run a league...
I know he’s a dick but come on lads  that’s obviously not what happened.

Benzema has had his on ongoing issues regarding pay. Ronaldo was simultaneously whinging about Al Nassr not signing anyone.
Anyway deal is done now because obviously clubs in the Saudi league who Ronaldo does not play for - do not have their transfer business dictated to by Cristiano Ronaldo…

Ronaldo tried to stop the transfer, it was reported on ESPN. Ultimately it looks like the PIF put their foot down and did it against his wishes...

They realised it would be ridiculous to allow him to control them like that.

It would only be interesting if anyone outside Saudi gave a flying feck about which team wins their poxy league.

I remember some people saying we should have backed him over Ten Hag that time after the Piers Morgan interview. Toxic player who has got in the way of his team’s success for his own ego for several years now. Arguably done more damage to his legacy than if he’d just retired at 35.

He wanted one last tilt at WC now that Messi has gotten it. The last 4 years and this 1k goal nonsense were just a coping mechanism for that.

Legacy as to how we regard his personality yes definitely. Career wise not really. His club career stopped mattering when he left Europe. Still funny he hasn't won an official trophy in Saudi yet though.

He has always been a selfish prick, biggest narcissist in football history.

Really sad that a guy who was liked by so many of colleagues is going to end his career making himself so disliked.

I refuse to believe any of his Portugal teammates want to have him in and around the squad now, they must surely think having him around means pressure for the manager and team to play a way to service him.

Genuinely think his ego will never allow him to retire, unless he's physically unable to carry on via a bad injury or something. As long as he's available he'll keep on going despite being finished a few years ago now.

I totally agree with both of you.

His stints at United, especially his second, shows he clearly only cared about his own reputation and never about the club.

Would a world cup even make a difference at this point? He seems unhinged and completely running on fumes. Just look at the way Kroos retired. And Lahm etc... If ronaldo had behaved like a normal person after his return to United and kept playing the minutes he was given, his legacy would probably be much better by now.

Leaving Man Utd will have no effect on his ‘legacy’ nor will this latest spat he has.

All of that will be forgotten very quickly.

A legacy will be forged after he’s finished playing.

Besides he’s earned £350-400m after leaving United.

Yeah that doesn’t make any sense when you think about it . If it’s any other player nobody even entertains something so ridiculous.

What is more likely to have delayed the deal, Ronaldo dictating Al Hilals transfers? or Benzema having a very public spat with his previous club about wages and wanting to leave?

yesterday evening you said they stopped the transfer because Ronaldo said. The next morning you’re saying they realised it would be ridiculous to allow him to control their transfers.

Maybe the obvious answer here is that such a narrative was absurd in the first place.

I’m sure he threw a strop over it and Al Nassr not signing anyone but it’s a hell of a reach saying anything more.
Espn can spin a story however they want too. Stories painting Ronaldo in a negative light get pounced on fairly quickly, makes sense to do it.

Martinez would be mad to bring him to the World Cup signing the Portuguese side’s death warrant if he does so. He was utterly world-class, but the way he has carried himself over the last couple of years has most definitely tarnished his legacy, at least a tad. If he doesn’t start for Portugal in a World Cup game, he would probably stage a team walk-out. He can’t be trusted in that capacity anymore. Ample professional when it comes to himself, but when it comes to the team he raises question marks again and again.

And for those who point to the fact that he has gone on strike for the betterment of the team, or to show his “drive to win,” there are better ways to go about it than leaving your side to fight for a title without you. If you think so highly of yourself, his head needs a wobble.

In the overall picture as a player one of his weaknesses would be that he isn't seen as a team player, egotistical and selfish, but with every passing year it's reminding people of that weakness, whereas if he retired at 35, people may have thought 'he was a selfish but he was worth the hassle'. I don't think 1,000 goals moves the dial that much in terms of his legacy, it's based off scoring big goals in the Champions League anyway.

If Martinez didn't select Ronaldo, he'd call up Trump and have ICE take away Martinez

Of course Ronaldo will play the WC.
Is gonna feck everything up.
Sick of the sight of him.

At least we will see him cry like a baby.

Best player I'll probably ever see play for this club but I wish he wasn't such a cnut.

Him having the worst wc ive seen from an all time great and then was a impediment at the last Euros when Portugal had a world class squad definitely adds to the recency bias. Again if the mofo would just be a team player then he could a squad player at least. I'd definitely say of all time greats he's easily the most selfish on and off the pitch.

But you cannot put him on levels of Kroos/Lahm, etc, great players surely, but Cristiano is on a different level, simple as that.

He is the only player in history to have a good chance to reach that 1000 goal-marker (officially recorded too). I see a lot of posts bashing him but how was it possible to reach that 1000 marker if he didn't downgrade to a lesser league, given his age and the number of games he already played, he won every trophy out there (except WC)?...

This is a player who went head-to-head with Messi at his peak, arguably the best ever, and beat him for 5 ballon d'ors , and lead him on CL goals and total goals. Not to take anything away from Messi, and not to derail this thread, but I mean Cristiano is in that category.

I do understand some of the criticism he gets for being arrogant/cocky/complaining at times, etc, but he has his own standards and I mean compared to Ibra (who I also loved as a player of our own) CR7 looks quite modest, in my opinion

Overall, I think we should be really privileged for having him wear our #7 shirt, the boy's been special since that friendly against Sporting aired on Eurosport back in the day!

I think people will come to appreciate him once he retires (not in the spotlight anymore)

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: this made my day...

That's the thing if he had accepted a squad role at United where he didn't play every minute of every match and showed another side of his game with a slight bit more workrate and a bit more build-up play in an unselfish way, went off the pitch in a dignified way instead of a strop every time, boosted his young team-mates and took them under his wing... it arguably would have boosted his legacy more than this take no prisoners goal hunt.

In 20 years time, in GOAT conversations when people call him selfish, his fans could have turned the narrative 'oh but what about his few years at United at the end of his career, he could be that player too, he just was a selfish goal-hunter at his peak because that was the best use of his talents'. And that would have been a decent argument in his favour. Instead, he is who he is now, going on strike in Saudi Arabia at 41 while being paid a millions a week.

Maybe they invited him to the embassy to talk about it and he relented.
