Cristiano Ronaldo - 968/1000

The really interesting thing about this isn't what it says about Ronaldo, but what it says about the Saudi league. Where success is a function of how the PIF chooses to distribute its investment between the four league teams it owns.
Didn't the MLS do something to that effect at some point? Granted, it was for the entire league.

Really sad that a guy who was liked by so many of colleagues is going to end his career making himself so disliked.

I refuse to believe any of his Portugal teammates want to have him in and around the squad now, they must surely think having him around means pressure for the manager and team to play a way to service him.
It would be hilarious if Portugal didn't select him. In fact I would pay good money to see the fall out of it.
If Martinez didn't select Ronaldo, he'd call up Trump and have ICE take away Martinez
:lol::lol::lol:

Not sure what you mean here?
That model is quite similar to how the MLS grew (successfully) in the 2000s. I could be wrong though. Main difference is that they're concentrating it into a "big 4" to maximise returns instead of spreading out too thinly.

As far as I know, the MLS is largely built along the normal lines of North American major leagues - franchises, expansion, no pyramid, salary cap, a measure of profit sharing. That is an entirely different cup of tea than having a State Investment Fund owning four of the teams.

The inorganic phoney Saudi league is scaling back operations? Who’d have thunk it?

41 today. You'd think he'll retire next year at 42 but it's Cristiano, could keep going until he's 45 or something

He'll keep going until he hits 1,000 goals. Even if it takes him another 2 years of stat padding in Saudi.

Hopefully he'll retire shortly after he reaches his target.

Not ideal after the whole Benzema situation that his birthday gift is seeing Benzema score a hatrick for his new team Al Hilal. Ouch.

Regardless of my thoughts of the man, he looks great for 41 from an athletic perspective.

Imagine paying a player quarter of a billion per year and he goes on strike.

Is Martinez still going to pick him?

I think this ‘strike’ will need to end soon, because it’s already ridiculous that Martinez plays him, but it’s going to be more ridiculous if he picks a 41 year old who hasn’t played in 5 months for the World Cup.

The strike has ended.

And yes Martinez is going to pick him and start him and Portugal will never come to terms with the fact that they could win the damn thing without this boat anchor weighing them down but they don’t want to upset him.

Their only hope is that he finally retires. Then they can start playing actual football again rather than the 'accommodate Ronaldo at all costs' game they've been playing.

There is a certain guy called Kazuyoshi Miura.

I am not sure Ronaldo will stop after 1000 goals.

Weird to think there's still an active player who made his debut the same year Maradona won the world cup with Argentina.

He was a year old when United won the European Cup in 1968.

Imagine Ronaldo gets injured, misses the tournament and Bruno is lifting the world cup. Then the camera pans to Ronaldo.

Not sure why there is so much hatred for Ron on the caf.
Don't care if he's a dick or a narcissist, the guy brought us the last truly glory days so far and is the last best in the world player we've created.

Hope he wins the WC contributing nothing but scoring a bunch of penalties. I really do.

His interview with Piers Morgan, and his slave comments back in 2008 might have something to do with it.
