Cristiano Ronaldo - 973/1000

Surprised the old timer was on the bench. Thought he'd be wandering off down the tunnel in a huff because he wasn't playing.

Is there any league where he could conceivably score the 25 goals in a season? Let's be honest, in any non-shite league he'll need good fortune and two years.
I said a few pages ago I doubt he even hits 1000 and got jumped on. The pace he's going at he'll be 52 and claiming that goes scored by his son technically count towards his tally.

Dont really get this. He's been having consistently high tallies in this league, he plays for one the strongest teams designed to set him up. Why couldn't he reach it next season?

He's only going to decline further, I could see it taking a few years. But then I guess he won't quit until he's hit 1000, just depends whether he has to drop down to the Cypriot 4th division to do it.

I hope for his sake he gets there sooner rather than later as he'll just become even more of an embarrassment to himself the longer this drags on.

Surely he’ll reach it next year.

29 goals, likely he’ll get 2-5 at the World Cup so that could be down to 24. Maybe retirement from International team so that removes some matches.

I can see him hitting >15 in the league, so that’s 10 in the other comps Al Nassr play in.

Not a fan of the guy, but it’s a given from my perspective he’ll get it next season. If he was any major leagues, maybe not.

It's some achievement to be so narcissistic. I don't know anyone that is impressed by this sad farewell tour of his to get to 1000 goals.

I think he will retire once the world cup is over. He's completely finished, mobility wise.

I don't think he scores once at the World Cup

Portugal has one of the strongest midfields of the entire tournament. He'll get a rebound, tap-in, perhaps even a header, and of course he'll be on penalty duty so each one of them will be for him. Congo are no pushovers, no idea about Colombia, but he could score against them, and definitely a high chance for a goal against Uzbekistan imo.

But yeah overall, I think his presence will harm Portugal more than it'll do them good.

He has a total of 8 world cup goals in 5 tournaments including his absolute prime years, so I don't expect significant numbers in his current state.

Yeah it is going to be extremely difficult now that he’s obviously hit a wall. I don’t think he can do it unless he plays in a terrible albeit recognised league for two more seasons.

He’s got 26 goals in 29 league matches this season. He’ll reach 1000 next spring at the very latest I believe.

How do you figure this? He’s got 8 in the last 10 matches, he’s not performing worse than last season.

I'm surprised how some people have such a negative perception of this, its obvious he's highly driven and looking to reach the 1000 goal target. We know the Saudi league is not the top league, but anyone getting any where near 1000 goals in their career is not going to play every game in a top top league, that being said Al Hilal showed in the Club World Cup in pre season, that they are of an OK standard so its not as if he's running around in a Sunday league team counting goals towards the tally.

Why does it look like the keeper punched it in
Not one for conspiracy theories but without any context this looks dodgy as feck. Random throw-in with no teammates around, keeper with the most unlucky touch of all-time.

I confess I've not kept abreast of the Al Nassr matches, but last time I saw him I was a bit shocked by his level, so I only assumed it had been a rapid decline. Which obviously happens to everyone around that age. It's frankly absurd he's lasted this long. I do not know how many league matches remain in the Saudi season, I don't imagine he will score goals in the World Cup unless they are penalties, so I suspect he'll have 20+ goals to go next season to reach the milestone, and I can't imagine he will do it.

His team mate does step backwards and clatter into him when he's mid jump to be fair.

He's only getting worse from here though. The bumps of this thread seem to be getting further and further apart is all

Never! He will schedule some friendlies against Gibraltar, San Marino and Andorra until he gets there.

Like I said, 8 goals in his last 10 for Nassr and his tally in the league is one better than last season. So no, he’s not «hit a wall».

Handbags out

 Ronaldo so nervous about it, guess he'll find winning league with Al Nassr as achievement. His last trophy was Italian Cup back in 2021 so he was probably afraid he wouldn't win another trophy before retirement.

Don't think goals in friendlies count? Otherwise he'd do that for sure.

I am confident that he will succeed in the end. At this point, I doubt anyone cares other than him and his fans, but his determination is admirable. It was a privilege to be able to watch both him and Messi, but the time has come to move on.

He hasn't hit a wall, but he has slowed down somewhat, based on numbers. Last season was 35 goals in 41 games, according to FotMob, compared to 28 in 35 this season. A drop from 0.85/game to 0.8/game.

He has already dropped considerably from his 2023/24 season, in which he had a goal rate of 50 in 51 (98%). He's definitely slowing down, but hitting a wall is overstating it.

They'll probably begin a "one goal equates to five" in the Saudi league next year just to help him down the road.

I think its more likely he'll claim his teammates goals and everyone just kinda goes along with it.

Oh, but they do! That plus all the difficult qualifiers against the European minions are the reason a lot of the current players have so many national team goals. Isn’t Depay the Netherlands‘ top scorer?

As the polar opposite: Gerd Müller has only 62 caps for Germany

Exactly my point. He's slowed down from his best Saudi season, but as you note, he's performing *almost* identically to last season. I'm just saying that all the naysayers who are claiming he'll never hit 1000 are wrong and/or hyperbolic. They probably do not even watch the games, just checking to see if he drew a blank or not.

I still stand by my spring 2027 prediction.
