Cristiano Ronaldo - 976/1000 | Football only

That Messi hat trick will have made this next game even more about him than it already was. He will be absolutely determined to do the same against Congo tonight as Messi did to Algeria.

He's going to be even more desperate for goals than usual, it could get hilarious if he doesn't score early in the game.

He was a squad option in the WC22 knockouts.
Him being in the squad to stat pad against supposed "minions" and then being a bench option later in the tourney is sensible to you? It'd also be highly disrespective to their group opponents.

Him scoring a few in the groups also makes it harder to drop him going forward. He will start most games IMO. Maybe get's a rest in one group game if they win the first handily.

His hattrick vs Spain is still his only big moment in World Cups. Maybe he'll have another on this WC given that Portugal are a good team.
And what a moment and game that was. I love Cris but I don't think we've seen his best at the WC, for sure, at the Euros, yeah, namely i.e. Euro 2012, but not on the WC. But that game against Spain - damn - it wasn't even the hattrick. He bossed the entire Spanish team all game long. Including several of his own teammates at RM back then.

I did see bookies aren't even taking bets on him having under shots or something
Would be awesome if Bruno got a hattrick though

I’m gonna laugh when he’s just skying shots into the crowd and then smirking and shaking his head like he does, as if fate just kept an absolute banger out. Also I predict him to scream at teammates who don’t pass it to him when they shoot while he’s not even in a position to get the ball.

I'm going 11 shots, 3 offsides tonight.

Small punt on the 'Did he? Didn't he?' header, with him pointing to his head repeatedly as he hops towards the corner flag to celebrate.
And a small punt on the 'reverse-Nani', where he sneaks an offside toe onto a ball that was crossing the line anyway.

I almost think he will react to it and play more as a team player for once + then make a massive deal about how he is about the team afterwards. I don't think Messi really cares about social media/fan reactions whereas I think Ronaldo really does.

Scenes when he's benched tonight.

Anybody thinking Ronaldo will take a backseat for the benefit of the team in this world cup is deluding themselves

Yep, him coming off the bench might give them a chance of going very far into the tournament. Him starting ? Not a chance. Hope I'm proved wrong but I think we will see a player simply not up to the standard of even this poor WC

Ronaldo just offers nothing nowadays

Maybe he'll score in the 2nd half, but he's an hindrance.

Absolutely, he's practically invisible in the building up and the only time he starts to show any movement is when theres a chance he can receive the ball for a shot.

It'd almost be sad to watch if he wasn't so unlikeable.

If I were a Portugal fan I’d be annoyed that, at 41, there is still a demand (be it pressure from media / stature / sponsors etc) to start him.

He’d be so much better being a squad player and coming off the bench should they need him rather than start him.

But credit to Ronaldo - I can’t name any other outfield player who at 41 can do what he still does, yet alone many mid 30 pro players

Has he touched the ball in the second half? He’s honestly holding this team back.

Okay i take back my previous statement. He's a non entity against Congo.

He’s so slow getting back onside, I know he’s old but feck me.

You just know Martinez is praying he gets injured so he doesn’t have to make a decision on it himself.

He's staying offside on purpose. It's actually really clever. If the defenders can't see his shirt number, then they've got a problem. It's genius if you think about it.

Portugal were awful, Ronnie was lucky he was suspended for this one
