Only argument is in the minds of the most incredibly biased Ronaldo fans. At no point in his career has he ever been better than Lionel Messi. Legendary career in his own right but just does not compare to Messi's.

Would have thought he would be at least a bit more respected at least as a player on a United forum. Might be the squabble with Ten Hag (I know my fellow United fans are extremely sensitive about such matters. The fans have fallen out with pretty much every high-profile Sir Alex United player at some point) but anyway I suspect it's more to do with the levels of pro Messi propaganda?
I also think that's largely why Messi has been doing so well recently with Argentina and Ronaldo has been failing. The media can play are huge part on the mental side of things etc. That being said, Messi did have a great performance vs Algeria.

BBC team petrified to criticize him. Is his thing where he ignores anyone that criticizes him even in the slightest truly that powerful?
Congo's defenders were excellent in dealing with aerial deliveries, showing both the discipline to intercept crosses and the physical presence to dominate aerial duels from wide areas services. However, he did little to make their job difficult. He rarely dropped deeper to drag his marker out of position and showed very little activity inside the penalty area to gain an advantage over his defenders.
Tbf, he did have three opportunities, but he squandered all of them himself, even though the Congolese defenders were applying pressure. What was particularly concerning was his tendency to "stand in" offside positions throughout the first half, which repeatedly disrupted promising attacks.
Overall, it was a very poor performance. He looked passive, lacked urgency, and appeared sluggish/slow in his lateral movement. This was especially frustrating given how hard his teammates were working to create opportunities for him; they seemed desperate to get him involved, yet he offered very little in return.
Perhaps we will need to wait for the next few matches to gain a clearer picture of his form. Currently, however, Ronaldo appears to be a player who relies heavily on high-quality service and precise final balls from his teammates. He still possesses the instinct and intelligence to find space and position himself in goalscoring situations, but his overall display today was surprisingly passive and slow. For long periods, he seemed detached from the game and lacked the intensity and lateral movement.

It’s funny when you see players like Rooney retiring gracefully enough because and saying it was because they wanted to ‘give the young lads a chance’ and having enough dignity to know when to call it a day. When you have Ronaldo who is opposite. Poor Bruno has spent the entire peak of his Portugal career with him in front of him and may retire before him at this rate.

Ironically I think he could have kept the "better than Messi" discussion alive into perpetuity had he retired a few years back. Though at both their peaks I've always enjoyed CR7 more (despite being a douche canoe), at this point he's surely making even his staunchest fans question things.
To be fair, Rooney (despite possibly being my favourite ever United player) stank it up for years before he decided to even leave a top club. He was awful for a long time.
Cantona probably the best example from United, but lots seem to struggle to realize they are done. Rooney certainly did. I think the issue is that Ronaldo is so famous and so legendary that there isn’t anyone powerful enough to say no.

Yeah he was third top scorer behind Quinones and Toney. Toney is England’s back-up striker, which is fine, if he was carrying England’s attack and unstoppable though people would be asking serious questions.

My mate lives and works in Saudi, he says the Saudis hate him and his attitude. They aren't very keen on him at all, which is sad given the amazing moments he's given the game.
This refusal to retire at International level is crazy though, he's literally destroying Portugals hopes of potentially winning the whole thing.
Messi is 3 years his younger and a different body shape to Ronaldo. You can see Messi has better mobility, Ronaldo has lost the ability to burst for the ball and correct his feet quick enough to finish driven low balls.
