Cristiano Ronaldo - 976/1000 | Football only

I think he might be more hated on here than Barca forums at this point
He "only" scored goals against Barca. I don't think that is a reason for dislike a player. I don't hate or dislike Salah, Haaland or Saka. I respect them as players.

But Diva number 7 treated this club like dirt twice so yeah, he is the player who deserves all the "hate" from United fans.
And i find it quite pathetic how United legends and captains Ferdinand and Keane are sucking up to him. Like some schoolboys.

It's clear a lot of people have a view/opinion of Ronaldo and are actually blinded by that fact. They are like anti (insert US politician) leader, no matter what they do, even if good, they will only see him in one light.

What I find funny is, Messi has such a good image compared to Ronaldo, when Ronaldo is actually much more charitable. Messi has a great PR team.

Some people think Ronaldo is the devil. It's madness!
Talking about PR - Ronaldo has best PR in history of sports based on the fact that he is even involved in debate Ronaldo vs Messi. It is like comparing Lewandovski and original Ronaldo. Or Zidane and Maradona.

My 6 year old nephew has been doing the Ronaldo celebration at me for the last year and is constantly telling me that Ronaldo is the greatest footballer ever. I'm pretty sure he isn't tuning into the Saudi league. He only watches Brighton games and isn't allowed on YouTube.

He probably has the same ability to read the game and assess quality as the average Ronaldo fan.

Roger.

Looking forward to Portugal's next game if he plays, to see if he's ''back''. ha.

Anyone see Neville's comments after the game? He said, with the next WC being played in Portugal (along with Morocco and Uruguay) , it wouldn't shock him if Ronaldo's mentality is to play in it!

At first I thought he's crazy. But when you really think about it, Ronaldo probably is thinking that. Imagine that, playing in the WC at 45.

Surely he won't, but the guy ain't normal. Which is something we can all agree on!

Yeah? Because even a quick 10 second glance at your activity shows that to be patently untrue. There’s a whole plethora of posts in these threads with you arguing endlessly in who’s the greatest debate and so on and so forth. I just think it would be nice if you heeded your own advice that’s all.
By 'these threads', I obviously meant the Messi thread and the Ronaldo thread. The GOAT and versus threads are clearly not just about one or the other.

I had a little spiel typed out to just point out why what you’ve said isn’t true and explain why you’re actually more guilty of what you’re accusing me of than I am, but I see admin are already (probably quite rightly) annoyed by it being somewhat derailed, so all I’ll say is it’s not your job to tell people where or what they should post mate.

Anyway, I’ll be interested to see how he gets on against Colombia, if it lights a fire or if it’s back to the same ol’ with a more seasoned experienced national side who simply won’t give him the same opportunities. Although with the quality Portugal have I reckon he’ll always get at least of couple of decent chances in most games.

Rio as much as I like him I get, he's a bit of a 'pick me' so I know he'll never say a bad word about such a huge figure that would happily ostracize anyone. Not to mention the online Ronaldo extremists that would possibly spam his (and probably his wife's) instagram as we've seen with the Portugal players. He could do without it.

Keane however I don't get. Maybe he cares a lot more about being liked than he lets on. Theres no way he doesn't see the downside of picking Ronaldo. Everybody with the first clue about football understands there is a tradeoff being made to accommodate him at this point and ignoring that is poor punditry in my book, he was the same before Ronaldo left us the second time.

Oh Ronaldo will want to go.

That's what most of us thought after the 2022 World Cup - that it would be his last one.

And yet here he still is.

I know. Especially playing in his home country. Ronaldo constantly adapts but there's only so much father time will allow him to. If he does end up playing at the next WC, he 100% would have to accept being a sub.

By then, he probably will be manager and will play himself

It was farcical keeping a 41 year old on the pitch for the full 90 just so he could get his hattrick. He's going to start against Colombia on Saturday so surely you give him 30 minutes rest when the game is wrapped up.
Not happening. Especially if he doesn't score.

Or maybe, just maybe they know Ronaldo better than you and don’t have the same opinion of him that you do?

If you read and can understand what I wrote, it's got little to nothing to do with how well anybody knows him.

"Maybe, just maybe" ok.... :+1:

I'm with you on this one. Keane is unflinchingly brutal with almost everyone in football, yet he refuses to criticize Ronaldo even at his age and with the way he's acted. It's weird.

It's not weird imo, Keane is not as tough as he perhaps likes to present himself.

Think it's just loyalty to an old team mate who has extreme professionalism

Nah, recently he trashed Alvarez for asking for a move (that in general I agree but not in the manner he did it) and he never said anything against Cristiano regarding similar situations (it doesn't matter here the status).

Keane just comes off as a dickhead, he flip flops and waffles depending on the player/team. He’s never consistent on his views. Lately he’s been worse than before, I think the overlap has shown what a flip flopping , out of touch twat that he is.

I dunno I still like Roy, the thing that most bothers me it's how fast former players forget how bad they felt when pundits trash them.

They both exited the club unceremoniously so thats one thing they have in common. On top of that Keane has always been an advocate of players having to work hard and Ronaldo despite his age and all his troubles always works hard off the pitch so if Keane criticizes Ronaldo basically he criticize himself, making his own views invalid. Not to mention he likely wants to be on a good term with Ronaldo whos a very successful footballer.

So you can say its all purely subjective. He cant attack Ronaldo without making a fool out of himself.

I understand the loyalty side of things, but I still think Keane has a real blind spot for Ronaldo. I'm sure he'd be very critical if someone like Rooney was still hobbling around the pitch at 41 yet expecting to start for England in the World Cup.

The thing is, Ronaldo has still earned his place. Hes still Portugal’s best striker currently.

Isn't the other alternative Ramos? He doesn't even start for his club. Portugal have been pretty weak in the CF position for as long as I can remember.

The two goals against Uzbekistan were excellent finishes to be fair, got to give credit where due.

True. They lack a proper striker at the moment. Someone like Pauletta would come in handy right about now to reduce the pressure on having to rely almost exclusively on a 41 year old CR7.

Despite how he comes across publicly, most of Ronaldo's former teammates rarely have anything bad to say about him.

The prior talk here wasn't about that, it was about Roy no matter subject about Cristiano he never goes full Roy with him with his manners. I might be wrong thought and DarkLord wasn't referring about that.

I get people dislike but for God sake, he wasn't that bad and didn't get much service.

It was a brilliant game, for 0-0!

I always enjoy the sub plot when it doesn’t look like it’s working up front - knowing Martinez can’t sub him or risk the wrath.

He could get wheeled out in a coffin and he'd still not be as pointless as Pedro Neto, so he's got that going for him.

He really should retire.

Pretty funny that Messi couldn't care less about the top scorer award, meanwhile Portugal sabotage themselves for this clown.

It’s more the fact that he restricts their play. He didn’t play really badly but he’s so static and purely a goal poacher. It’s painful to see how they try to accommodate him when they clearly have such quality in the squad.

His offsides aren’t even borderline.

Tbf the fact he's stayed on for the full 90 mins of 3 games at 41 in a quick turnaround tourney is insane, and clearly the result of not being able to take him off. Virtually (if not all??) the other big 'stars' have been rested for at least a fraction of the games. Messi apparently isn't starting tonight. Even if he was amazing, save him or he'll be fecked by the R16 FFS! And it's clearly all because of his power within the side. It's objectively mad
