Cristiano Ronaldo - Countdown to 1k

He was on £500k a week to do that, completely destabilising the team as it fell from 2nd to distant 6th. I didn’t rate Hojlund but for comparison he was on £85k, which almost 6 times lower salary.

Every single time he was subbed he made a strop, he made the life hell for managers, a complete circus surrounding him. Intolerable to keep him here.
I seem to remember someone on here with contacts within the club saying that he was a terribly toxic force in the dressing room, and that the club (not just EtH) wanted rid of him ASAP.

I'm not going to share the details I was privy to(I'm not the one with the contacts), but Ronaldo is the biggest narcissist in football.

Oh I don't doubt that for a second. There's enough evidence of that on the pitch alone.

I remember someone saying that Ronaldo tried to get players to follow Rangnick's lead to dramatically increase workouts, but the rest of the team balked at working harder. I think there was a theory that he offended the senior English players on Utd by making this suggestion. (were there any senior English players on Utd at that point?)

Anyway, Rangnick left and the Utd players remained unfit. This was a story anyway.

Well you only see narcissists working that hard to stay fit, you know.

Football is a pub man's game. Xavi and Rooney didn't need an 8 pack like vainaldo.

In all seriousness, is that true/verified or another one of the stories fabricated for outrage and clicks?

Re his 2nd stint at United, he absolutely had to go. He was visibly struggling with the physicality and speed of the league come the end and it was clear the season prior the players were all trying to set him up in the Europa at the expense of making the right decisions in and around the box.

Even his 18 goal league season is massively overrated - we tanked as a team with him as the focal point.

It’s telling that the biggest games he’s scored in since have been nations league and Saudi. Euros and World Cup showed he is completely spent at the top level.

Who knows if it's true? I do remember reading the comment -- probably on here. This was the time when it was considered so weird that Rangnick was hired and then had his advice/council completely ignored.

Good for him and its why he has most of the records.

He could have stayed all his life playing in farmers leagues and having people drool about him every time he a worldy a game against PL division 2 side's 30 matches a season - or the narcissistic ego can play in 3 biggest leagues in the world, play in the PL twice, play until 40 and still have the most goals and assists and records.

There's a reason everyone in my family knows C Ronaldo and not any other footballer because his type of work ethic and setting himself challenges is something all human beings can do rather than sitting on the same sofa all day in the same house and feeling like you conquered the world.

I'm a narcissistic person, so are alot of the successful people in the world.

Imagine how bad it would have been without those 18 goals.

You sure somebody else would have stepped up?

Think Martial got 4 goals the season before that and often injured. Don't think he's totalled 18 since then. Cavani always injured, he scored 5 in La Liga the following season. He scored 2 in 15 apps during Ronaldo's first season.

Edit: Martial has scored 19 league goals across the last 5 seasons. Incl a season in Greece.

The only reason some of my family or friends know of him is because of his antics and being a big egoist.

More like massively underrated. He outscored prime Kane and he scored the most goals against the big 6 teams in the EPL Only Salah and Son outscored him and Ronnie did all of that at 37. In the UCL, he single handedly carried Utd in the group stage. When it looked grim, he scored very important goals against Vilarreal and Atalanta (both home and away). All of those goals were either winners or equalizers. He scored 6 goals in 5 games in the group stage.

He also bailed us out at Old Trafford against Norwich (hattrick) and thus sparrng us from complete embarrassment. He also scored a hattrick against Spurs out of nothing. If I can recall he had the best goals per game ratio in the EPL that season. Obviously it wasn't prime Ronaldo and his overall game wasn't brilliant but his finishing and goalscoring was still world class.

Since he left Utd, he scored 22 goals in 26 games for Portugal and was the top scorer in the Nations League. And he scored against the likes of Germany, Spain and Croatia in the Nations League at the age of 40.

Yeah these are the actual facts. Anything else is just pure opinion and conjecture that is unsubstantiated.

Gee, If he held us back so much like that porus theory always suggests, why did we regress to entirely new dimensions almost 3 years after his departure.

Agree about that first season back. It's hugely underrated because we struggled as a team and because of what happened the year after.

Imagine any CF getting 24 goals for us now, we'd be delirious.

There's also the dopey idea he somehow stopped others performing. Even though since he left those same players have probably got even worse. Or at the very least haven't improved.

When Bruno carried us last season to the 15th place, everyone was singing praises for him but for Ronaldo the narrative was that he was the "problem" and that he held us back. After seeing Ten Hag's fiasco in Leverkusen, it's been obvious that he's a total clown and it was he who tried to scapegoat Ronnie for all of our problems.

Clown ETH got rid of Ronaldo and replaced him with Weghorst and Hojlund. He also got rid of De Gea and replaced him with Onana. That's borderline criminal, if you ask me. The same clown who fell out with the whole Leverkusen board and with the majority of Leverkusen players and who got sacked after 2 matches in Bundesliga  .

United scored the same number of goals in the following two seasons without adding anyone good in attack.

22/23 Rashford went a scoring run for 8 week and with that spell basically saved our goalscoring that season.

But he was there 21/22 with Ronaldo and got 4 league goals.

Before we blame Ronaldo for that he got 7 and 4 in 23/24 and 24/25.

Hojlund and Garnacho got 17 league goals between them 23/24. Obviously we're talking 21/22 when they weren't around.

Ronaldo couldn't handle that he wasnt the man at Real. So puts up a fuss and goes a worse league and plays for juventus. They couldn't believe we would take him off their hands and actually pay money for him. He was a cancer in the team. Made the team worse on all accounts.
Then cons to United. Where we had to make him the focal point to the detriment of the team. And he still was shit. He's narcissim was on a whole new level. Blaming anyone and everyone. The interview with Peirs. The most embarrassing meltdown I've ever seen. How old is he? Acting like a teenager. Who at that age talks about looks? His depth. None. The reason for his unrelenting pursuit of external records achievements fame, is the fill the empty void inside him. Its a shitty world being a narcissist. Forever chasing external validation to fill the void. For no matter how much you put into that container just as much is running out. Looks happy on the outside. But thats the mask a narcissist wears.

Again, iirc, the year that Ronaldo was here, there was a whole lot of massive ETH fans who thought having a goal scorer like Ronaldo was just old school. Just like De Gea was just old school.

Utd finished 3rd that year, but ETH was meant for bigger things, Redcafe thought.

Redcafe was wrong.

It's the two extremes - both liked and hated to perplexing extremes - that accounts for the high number of posts. There seems as many posts from people who enjoy trolling the thread and downplaying / undermining his achievements - or, like yours, just personally abusing him - as there are from people who enjoy praising him for those achievements.

Undisputed GOAT in my eyes. Messi is a great player but nowhere near as electric.
Ronnie was electric for us and early in his Madrid days and was incredible to watch no doubt

How anyone can prefer goal machine Ronnie over Messi though I will never understand.

Maybe you should see what some ex United players have to say about Ronaldo before commenting this kind of garbage:

Roy Keane on Ronaldo:

“His desire - he’s 37 and even his goal record for United is fantastic.
“Everything about him when he first came to United at 17, he had that hunger, that desire. I can’t speak highly enough of him.

Ryan Giggs on Ronaldo: He’s the best. I remember sprinting across in one game in the winter and I’ve took Cristiano out and the manager has gone mad. I’ve gone, ‘it’s a tackle gaffer,’ and he’s gone, ‘I know yeah but just take care. He’s a special player.”

Bryan Robson on Ronaldo: It beggars belief that people are blaming Cristiano Ronaldo. Heresy,” he said. “Where would we be now without his genius?
"I've not felt a buzz like this since Eric arrived". Robson describing Ronaldo's return to Utd.

Berbatov on Ronaldo:
"Everything he achieved, he deserved and he’s a great example for every young player coming through to follow. Even his body, he worked for it."

These words are coming from Robson and Keane, our two greatest captains in history. Enough said.

It's amazing how much lies you put in a single post. Ronaldo wasn't the main man in Madrid? What? A guy who scored more goals than the number of games that he played for Madrid.

He ruined Juve? Well, are Juve better off since he left Juve? Nope, they are falling apart and haven't been serious title challengers for years. He literally carried Juve in the UCL (most famously by scoring a hattrick against but Juve simply wasn't good enough to win the UCL.

"Where we had to make him the focal point to the detriment of the team. And he still was shit." He was "shit" by outscoring Kane, scoring the most goals against the Big 6 teams, carrying Utd in the UCL and being included in the EPL team of the year all while being 37.

"The interview with Peirs. The most embarrassing meltdown I've ever seen". Yes, only Cristiano Ronaldo had meltdowns. Roy Keane's MUTV rant was never buried. Rooney didn't threaten to leave the club by demanding a fat paycheck. Ruud Van Nistelroy was completely fine by being benched in his final Utd season and he never had a single meltdown. Peter Schmeichel and Paul Ince just chose out of curiosity to play for City and Liverpool and totally didn't hold a grudge for Ferguson.

"Its a shitty world being a narcissist. Forever chasing external validation to fill the void."
You mentioned this word "narcissist" 1 million times. You are just projecting at this moment and it's not even funny. He's that obsessive because he has elite mentality and wants to be the best footballer of all time. His work ethic and professionalism is unmatched in football honestly.
Imagine any CF getting 24 goals for us now, we'd be delirious.
I hope that's Šeško this season.

Where has he been since Juve? broke rejection records in Europe, ghosted in WC as usual and shipped to Saudi league..
Juve won 7 Serie As in a row before him and played 2 UCL finals in 3 years before him. He went to a top UCL contender and went out to 10-man Porto, Lyon and Ajax in 3 years..

Also Real with Benzema, Modric, Kroos continued to show their historical magic in UCL winning it twice after him in 5 years..
"Where we had to make him the focal point to the detriment of the team. And he still was shit." He was "shit" by outscoring Kane, scoring the most goals against the Big 6 teams, carrying Utd in the UCL and being included in the EPL team of the year all while being 37.
United didn't need carrying until he showed up and ruined everything..

They finished 2nd in Premier League the year before he joined and 3rd the year after he left.. They played FA Cup final & semis,. With him, lost to mighty Middlesborough.. Not to mention his terrible form in the following season scoring 1 goal in 10 games, missing preseason as Mendes was desperately looking for a UCL team for him. That Piers interview was the cherry on the cake.

What you say may be true but it's hard to believe that a player as good as Ronaldo did not improve Juve. He was Serie A player of the season twice in his 3 years there. Perhaps there were other factors at work in the team's UCL performances.
