Cristiano Ronaldo - Countdown to 1k

He was a passenger but got his goal I guess. Not even sure he will retire from the portuguese NT after the WC. With the insane amount of chances he gets from this quality team he will poach until he's 50.

How I feel every time I watch him play for Portugal. Hope they can do well at the WC despite him and he just gets his 1000 goals and jets off into the sunset. This current team is way too good to be still playing a 40 year old Ronaldo, even if there's no natural world class striker in the wings.

His stats for Portugal are still pretty great tbf. When it comes to goalscoring, he's still incredible.

Portugal goals in the last 11 matches:

Cristiano Ronaldo- 11 goals
Joao Felix- 3 goals
Bruno Fernandes- 2 goals
Trincao- 2 goals
Bernardo Silva- 2 goals

Cristiano Ronaldo stats for Portugal since he left Man Utd
2023-present:
27 appearances- 23 goals.

Don't have the stats for his assists but it's probably close to 1 G/A per game which is incredible.
In the last 11 games he scored 11 goals and the teams he faced were mostly solid- Croatia, Scotland, Poland, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Armenia and Hungary.

Only Armenia sounds like a weaker team but a lot of these were top notch like Germany, Spain and Croatia.

His stats will never be doubted, the man is a goal magnet and always will be. I just do feel that Portugal can carry his limitations (pretty much to do with this age and very understandable) in the lesser games but I just don't see it working out in the latter stages or bigger games of big tournaments and we've seen that recently as well. The problem with taking him to the WC/Euros and not starting him also means that you're ensuring an absolute circus the minute he does get dropped as we saw previously. I was at the Portugal Denmark game back in March and while he did get a goal, the difference in just all around effort, work rate, and physicality when Ramos came on was night and day. I think the problem for Portugal also becomes a lack of truly world class alternatives but they do need to move on from at the highest level, imo. In the biggest games in the WC, I do believe he will be a bit of a liability.

Nations League isn’t as demanding as a WC… You don’t play all 7/8 games in one month right after a full season. Portugal played the 1/4s vs Denmark in March and the final 4 was in June, which is probably what helped him manage 90 mns vs Germany and Spain. He did score but he had to walk out of the final due to injury/fatigue. This will happen to him much sooner in the WC…

I don't think anyone expects them to win it, but there's no one remotely more reliable to score for them at the moment so he's going to continue playing until he retires. But to your earlier point, I agree that he could conceivably get there before or during the WC. The obvious fairy tale scenario that won't happen is they reach the final and he scores #1000 as the winner.
The smugness from Ronaldo fans would collapse this solar system into a super massive black hole. Better to imagine he’s in the final on 999, and given a dodgy pen to win it, and skies it instead.

The problem is as you said there are not proper alternatives for Ronaldo, especially after Jota's tragic death. His alternatives are Ramos who is mostly a bench warmer for PSG and Joao Felix who plays in the Saudi for Ronaldo's team.

Now to be fair to Ramos he has pretty good stats for Portugal and usually looks solid when playing for Portugal. Felix also scored a hattrick in the last game. But this number 9 situation is hardly a Portugal problem. Spain has a number 9 problem, Germany does as well and even France.

Ramos and Felix will have to be used more, especially in the upcoming World Cup but I don't think they're going to be his full replacements.

Not that I disagree with you. There are Ramos and Felix as alternatives, so they are going to play more minutes than usual in case of a fatigue. It already happened in the last WC.

Should write a book called "Plain chicken for the goals: How I sii-u from the top"

Penaldo for a reason I guess.
I think Ronaldo is a narcissistic bellend but it's genuinely incomprehensible to me why people like you spend so much time in his thread when you clearly dislike him so much.

blame the Cnut himself, if he didn’t score so many penalties I wouldn’t be on here has much.

Wheeled out for a ̶f̶i̶e̶l̶d̶ ̶g̶o̶a̶l̶ ̶ penalty. Amazing.

Wow - astonishing. He probably speaks Portuguese, English, Spanish and some Italian - but yeah, go ahead and criticize him for that as well.
No I won't, he speaks very good Portugese and Spanish. He invented the word siu. That's like criticizing Mozart about classical music.

Messi received 5 penalties in Qatar World Cup which is the World Cup record but you were all glazing him. I guess only when Ronaldo scores the pens it's a bad thing.

Bro this thread isn't about Messi. It's about why Ronaldo is either a human god or a botox twat. Let's not diverge from the main points.

Why mention Messi?

Sensitive fanboys still crying from Qatar 2022

Assuming Portugal qualify will he be allowed to enter the USA given his legal issues?

Question - when he gets in 999, will he purposefully go off form in the Saudi league, so he can get his 1000th for Portugal? Or even at the World Cup if he's allowed to go? Surely you dont want the big 1000 to come away to Al-Riyadh.

Odds on a 45-year-old Ronaldo being part of Portugal's 2030 World Cup squad?

The amount he lives in some of your heads never ceases to crack me up when this thread bumps

I wish it could just be left at this.

He's clearly one of the best players in the history of the game, and there should be no issue if anyone wants to say he is THEE best. It's just an opinion at the end of the day.

What is not an opinion, is that his longevity and continued talents in front of goal are legendary.
