Cristiano Ronaldo - Much Ado About Al Nassr

Yeah. My point was, he came out good from those bad situation, and some.

No I understood your point mate. Yay for Ronaldo I guess.

Sure he tarnished his legacy at one of the biggest clubs in the world where the fans loved him, agreed to become a PR circus act and inextricably linked himself to a Human rights abusing Authoritarian regime. But hey at least he now has another few hundred million in the bank on top of the other few hundred million he already had that he will likely never be able to spend in his lifetime.

True. While still playing football, and probably will still be Portugal main striker next WC. Life is so good for him now.

Probably, Portugal seem content to keep picking Ronaldo until he decides he's past it not the manager.

660m people who follow him on instagram is mind boggling. I know some of those will be bots but thats still mad. Then again, I don't really understand the allure of following people on social media simply because they are rich and famous.
Projection.

A millenia old thing and certainly not restricted to C.Ronaldo.

Social media just made it more visible and quantifiable.

He was finished in Europe - playing in SA has kept him relevant and able to play for the national team. Irrespective of money, it’s been a big success for him.

The reality is no one cares about the regime. What are you doing about opposing it, other than some comments on a football forum? Not saying you should be doing anything by the way!

You wouldn’t care one bit it offered money that would make a difference to you and your family. Welcome to sportswashing.

Highlighting it every chance I get. What else can one average person on the other side of the world realistically do?

Trust me when I say I would mate.

A Leicester City fan opinion on a former United player? Opinion dismissed and don't care what you have to say. Worry about your club's relegation and another shambolic season from them.
This is exactly why they say the CR7 agenda is carried only by Manchester United and Real Madrid fans.

Apparently fans of other clubs are not allowed to have an opinion now...

Sporting>United>Madrid>Juventus>United>Saudi

Just always pushing himself playing in top leagues, trying to score 1000 goals. It reminds me how I focus on getting with a hot girl I know just to motivate me to losing weight at the gym every 3 months.

No idea why Messi didn't join the Saudi league, could have got incredible pay. Seems much more competitive than playing in America. Maybe he just couldn't be assed and just wanted to take it easy before moving to PSG.

Maybe he just wants to live a life/culture closer to his norm. I imagine it’s a mix of that and your latter reason. I think he’s quite content on what’s he’s achieved and just wants to simmer down towards retirement. Don’t blame him - he’s certainly done enough to warrant that.

Got to admire Ronaldo’s determination to keep finding milestones to reach.

Because him and his family preffererd to live in the USA, more precisly in Miami. At the same time he just want to at least try to keep fit to continue playing with the NT. His move to the USA gives him another level to his fame as one of the faces of football in the biggest market of the world. This will cemented lots of kind of bizzness in the USA for years to come, from adverts, to buying Clubs, invest in Hotels, agreements with Apple and such. That's the real bizzness behind his move.

Saudi would have been just for the obscene ammount of money he woudl have get, yet more than probably Antonella and co would not like to live there and he already has enough bucks no matter how Corporate he is, in order to choose another path to continue earning his whole life when he retires from football.

Strict football I would have preffer a couple of seasons more in Europe and now (or even a season ago) in Argentina or some mid table or low table project in Serie A like COMO. Yet that woudl have render his whole USA move unexistant and not even just him, his Father more than probably wanted such move.

PD: Going to Saudi or USA ain't a challenge at this satge of their carreers in comaprison with what they've done, no matter how anyone rate either Leagues and of course being a "challenge" none the less within the respective enviroments. Both are just closing their carreers and mostly try to keep themselves fit and earn or create new bizzness opportunities, of course as any League it will still be a challenge to win a title, being as they are they will want to win, but it's not like a fella from Sporting trying his luck in Man Utd or a kid from Newell's trying his luck in Barca, those days are gone and neither ever need to be in a particular place to need a desire to win whenever they are.

Absolutely disgusting from him not to attend Jota's funeral today to be honest.

Come on, he might not even be a friend of him, or he just simply couldn't for wahatever obligation or reason. Also, if it's the case, better to not go to just go to save face

Messi would be playing for his local country club team and still would want to win, these fellas are wired in such way. Saudi and USA more than anything are bizzness moves and also ways of keep fit for the NT, that are their aims (leaving aside Cris 1000 goals target and both for whatever possible tite on the table)

Isn’t he still the captain of the Portugal national team? Thought that should be obligation enough to turn up at the very least.

I get that being such a public figure, people will look at this different. Yet like with any death, people deals with it in lots of ways. In this matters, me personally don't make a big fuss of how people reacts and do, there is enough false statements out there and as people (being Ronaldo or regular Joe) in this situations we do what at times what we can, what we feel. Yes sometimes we can see that force oruselves to at least be present can end being a nice gesture, yet I don't give that much of imposrtance if it's just that.

The lengths people will go to in order to criticize is fascinating! I'm sure there will some explanation, but I have a hunch it would been to not draw attention away from Jota and the funeral. I imagine there would have been loads of people trying to meet Ronaldo/take pictures etc despite it being a funeral and that would have been disrespectful to Jota and the family imo. Anyway, it's not really anyones business either way.

What are you basing this on?

Nah sorry, not having that. As captain and the most important figure in the history of your countries’ national team, it’s your duty to drop everything and be there.

It’s your teammate and he is dead. You have to go. If anything, your presence means more, because of who you are.

It’s now a bigger distraction because he didn’t go, than it would have been had he gone. He should have been there.

Only because people like you are making it so. Anything to have a dig at him

That is the first and only comment I have made about it, after seeing the discussion about him not going. It’s not a dig. He is the captain of the national team whose player has just died. His other captain is front and center representing the club he played for.

It is disgraceful. He's the captain of Portugal.

Suddenly anyone with a problem about him not going to a funeral is part of the bandwagon that loves to have a dig at him even if you've never said a bad word about him in your life before this.

He's the Portugal captain, it's poor behaviour, period. If he truly believed his attendance would have been a distraction then that's a media issue and they should be crucified, not Ronaldo. Not a single soul would have said he's only turned up for attention.

They are a sensitive lot.

Yeah I read this was it. Similar thing happened in 2010 when he went to the funeral of his agent’s mother, I read. Fans were trying to jump the fence and disrupt the whole event.

This makes sense to me.

He was the first one to send condolences to Jota's family. Salah and Alisson weren't also present at Jota's funeral but no one is making a fuss about it.

Jota's town is pretty small and if he showed up it would attract a lot of unwanted attention and that's why he didn't attend the funeral.

It's really weird (not at all) how people like you were silent when Messi tried to sucker punch Vitinha a couple of days ago. Messi also remained silent as Argentina captain when his Argentinian teammates sang a racist song toward French players who were black. None of you said a word about those things or nor did you criticize him.

Makes you wonder WHY. It's not a coincidence at all...

Gondomar being neighbour to Porto is a highly populated town for portuguese standards.
