17-year old left-footed CB, eligible for both England and Scotland. He’s been very good whenever I’ve seen him play. Composed on the ball, uses his body well.

Perhaps the one thing I’d want to see him exposed to is playing against physically stronger, quicker and taller strikers. But that will come with time.

Armer was one of the U18s players who trained with the first team this week.

I would love us to bring through a top level CB. Seems to be the one position we’ve struggled to nurture as a club.

It definitely has. Munro and Armer look promising, but it’s early days still. Kukonki has a lot of potential too, definitely see him as a LCB, especially in a back three.

Good to hear. As we’re now three at the back definitely so much more room for youth CB to come through.

Partly because our best talents in those positions had injury issues where they missed a lot of football. Hopefully the current lot can break that curse.

It's not just that - this is something that has happened in more or less every club over the last 10-15 years. There has been so much focus on attacking skills that defending has been neglected. I can easily name 20 very good strikers or attacking midfielders - but I would struggle to name 10 really high quality central defenders in the world right now
 
Quietly gone about his business and just keeps things ticking over. He seems like a steadying presence and composed for his age, both in character and on the pitch. Being left footed as well will aid him I think in relation to those just a bit older, namely Jackson and Kingdon.

Passing style, he could develop into being that, but this video doesn't show him to be ready as the passes were kind of low pace, with time a few decent cross passes, and a lot of go-to pass to the LB.

Maybe give him a shot and see if he'll adapt his passing to the pace of the (PL) game, but from this it's hard to tell, honestly. Even if it does show his eye for space and trajectory.

He was converted to CB at something like u16 level. He looks like he'll be better on the ball than defending

Armer from what ive seen may be similar. Not sure about his pace and one on one defending, but comfortable on the ball and looks a good passer. And both are quite tall
 
He needs his own Performances thread now.

I thought he looked assured when he came on. Hard to tell what his ceiling is yet, but there's a player in there for sure.

Why is he wearing shirt number 69 though?!... :(

Liked what I saw, very active defender and aware of what's around him.

Against Leeds, his one on one defending and passing were really good but he looked quite slow. Amass and him were getting roasted then Shaw came on and that side was much better defended, but unless he gets quicker, Armer seems like a guy for a very low line or a slower league.
 
I'd put the issues a lot more on Amass than Armer. Amass was getting caught out badly and didn't have the recovery pace to deal with it. He didn't even seem to see the issue and drop back.

A more experienced CB would deal with it better but it's hard to blame Armer too much.

They were both at fault, Amass and Armer got caught out, but I'll chuck it to the fact that it's two 19 year old kids playing against starting PL players. Shaw isn't faster than Amass so you can't blame it on speed, I blame it on positioning and communication from the two

Tbh I think Leeds will be in the running for top 10 this season, so it was a good test for both.
 
Very impressed to see him hold up against EPL opposition, still has some growing to do, both physically and mentally, but very decent performance nevertheless.

Even though he won't get many chances with the amount of players ahead of him I'd still keep him around the first team and play U-21s for this season.
 
Armer is excellent in reading the game, passing etc. But even in u-18 he's too slow against pacy forwards. Hopefully his intelligence will cover up for the lack of speed
 
Thought he was fantastic. To my untrained eye it basically just looked like Amass was getting done by those balls in behind throughout the second half, but in hindsight Armer obviously would have been culpible as well.

Other than that though, I was really impressed. He was great in some tricky one on one situations and looks physically ready to take a step up.

I didn't get a sense of how good he is on the ball, and maybe a high line would be difficult for him, but I think he could have a good career at a fairly high level.
 
He's 19 against experienced Premiership players. Cut the kid some slack, FFS. Of course, he isn't the finished product but he'll be a decent player

Think it's because a CB needs to be about 23/24 before they're ready to play for United. Such is the level of experience required for that position.

So it's years of loans for a young CB.

Heaven and Yoro in reality aren't ready.

I thought he did quite well especially with his block but yes, speed would seem to be his weakest area

If he learns to use his height and becomes extremely good in the air he'll be a very useful player in the premier league. Havent really seen it so far. Could be a bit stronger too

I thought he looked really good and composed last night, against DCL who is a handful.

Passes through the lines too and he held up that counter attack well as well. Like the look of him
 
I like this lad, think he's got a career at Championship level at the very least, hopefully higher.
 
I think he looked good, Amass was the one who was getting torn apart by Leeds RW. Not sure how he could have helped him more.
 
I don’t think he will ultimately end up staying at United. His lack of pace is a killer.

Perhaps may end up at Everton, Burnley or the likes or even in Scotland

Yeah I don't think he's suited for us, with teams sitting back against us he needs to be in a team where they are compact more often to reduce his weaknesses. I think he'll end up getting sold in the future. But yeah he'd be better in a team like Everton. He'd be like the Left-Sided version of O'Brien
