Proper line hugging winger, God I missed those.
They revel in being miserable.
They’re all rubbish nicknames.
So what shirt number is he taking? I hope we strip the 7 off Sanchez and give it to this lad
And curse him? No thanks.
Love signing young British players but finding it hard to really get excited about this lad. He's not exactly been pulling up trees in the Championship. Not expecting him to get a whole load of game time tbh, although his pace will be useful off the bench.
It's good when a lad is genuinely excited to be a United player. You can see it in his eyes, he's overjoyed to be joining us. I hope he turns out to be a gem for us.
yea totally agree.
It is an exciting signing, not just the talent and potential he has but the style of the player, certainly speaking for myself but I think a lot of the positive vibes from the fanbase is because it is a good sign we are now signing somebody like this, this would have never happened with Mourinho.
He reminds me a bit of Eggsy out of Kingsman.
At least I am trying to give him something that matches his ability. I m not seeing you trying. Rafa Silva of Benefica nickname is the Flash, Daniel James nickname should be 99 pace on fifa.
Slightly concerned with his lack of elite level footwork if we are expecting him to be a winger at United but will see if he has just not been showing it in the limited footage we have seen of him to date. Worst comes to worst - he could be an elite wing back in the making with that pace and work rate.
This signing would be similar to when we signed George Best.
Took me a week to work out Daniel is his first name and James is his second name.
If Sanchez has a shirt number that's anywhere the first 11 next season it's an absolute disgrace.
It is how we develop him. Coppell didn't come from an elite club, but he did alright.
This kid is a great long term signing. Please give him time everyone he's not being signed as a fix for everything he's ours now get behind him I think he will be more important than Martial for one thing.
That’s what I was thinking, his face is a story in itself. Let’s hope this works out for all parties. One thing at least ... we now have a proper winger at last!
Just listening to his interview on the app. He's a sensible lad and quite sweet.
I wish him all the best. I feel this guy will give his all.
Very excited. I can't fathom why anyone would be against this signing. Medium fee, young and talented, huge potential, and a real WINGER!
He's got pace that'll hurt any side and with some coaching he'll be an outstanding footballer for us.
I predict he'll tear up the Europa League this season.
I imagine that’s what we’ll use him for.
Martial first choice on the left, with James rotating in for cups.
I worded it poorly. Technique is important but it depends on the level of technique. You can argue Andreas has better technique than Scott for example but Scott is the better player, and it's his physical and athletic base which he uses well.
being a left winger, he is not a player in a position that we have to or need to sign, but as a player, the type of a player he is, about pace, speed on and off the ball, constant running and closing down opposition players.
this signing could signal Ole's intention of really changing our stagnant playing style of the last 6 years or so.
Meh. At least give the lad some challenge.
Tbh everyone is like that (except Di Maria ) when they sign here unless the club, slowly but surely, sucks the joy out of them
I just finished watching this video of James' MOTM performance vs Stoke and if I am going to criticize him, it's going to be that from the left side he cuts in too much. I want to see wingers taking their man outside and getting to the byline for a cross or cut back pass. This is why I think Sanchez hasn't been successful. Even when he had his man outside he would always stop to cut back in to his right foot which would slow up play. When you take your man outside you don't lose momentum and you attack at pace. Not only that, but if you get tackled the ball either goes out for a throw or a corner. When you are tackled cutting back in the ball typically goes back up field which can lead to a counter. I want to see our wingers be wingers. I want them to think "assist first", not "score first". A great example of that is when Pep starts Sterling and Sane. Sane (a left footer) starts on the left and Sterling (a right footer) starts on the right. They take their man outside more often than not and create so many tap in goals because of it. I hate this whole "left footer on the right and right footer on the left" crap. We always end up being too narrow because of it. I am excited to see James play, but I just hope he plays on the right...
Much also depends on any instructions given to him by his manager
Exactly. Go and watch Pogba's 1st interview after signing and he looks like a kid who's come home, and now he's an enemy to most United fans.
I haven't seen much of James admittedly but the clips I have seen, it concerns me that all I can see is pace.
He looks like a very fast workhorse type to me. But there must be something i haven't seen yet, for Giggs to strongly recommend him you would imagine.
My biggest questions would be:
Has he got the skill to make the right decision at the right time to open up a defence?
What other skills has he got when his pace isn't working?
How is his creativity on the ball?
Can he cross?
Adama Traore has all the pace in the world, but is rendered useless because of his lack of footballing nous.
Possessing his pace is what will get him into positions, but what can he do once he's in that position is what i'm waiting to find out.
Really? I didn't see it. Not saying that in a negative way. Just observation. He uses his pace to get 1-2m of space and then he crosses the ball. I didn't see on his videos that he actually beats the man.
I am curious how he will play on the right
Enemy to dumb fans
Said it earlier.... I genuinely think he'll be a bigger fixture on the team than some expect. I reckon he'll have a solid first season and score a few.
With runners off him ie Rashford, lingard , Martial, I can see him setting up some assists for these guys, he will also get us plenty of free kicks in dangerous areas, because defenders are going to foul him to stop him!
I'm pretty excited to see how he goes, the manager will give him a chance that's a given he has to take it?
I'm going for he gets 10 goals in first season.
No he does not.
Let's wait and see how he settles in before we start inventing silly names.
He has a huge transition to make and adjusting to playing for Manchester United is going to be a big challenge. He does not need any extra pressure.
I was just taking a piss mate. I agree that he should just focus on football and not get caught up with the fame and gold diggers that comes with playing for Manchester United. I m sure his Instagram account is already flocking with girls telling him how cute he looks when in reality he is just an average looking lad.
I’d be very surprised if his nickname isn’t the obvious DJ.
Is his initials to be fair.
Separate names with a comma.
