I know it didnt work out for him.. but I genuinely wish him well.. even though he's going to leeds.. Hope he does brilliantly against everyone and has a stinker against us..
Bielsa has plans for him.. he will do well with a consistent run of games and a more defined role..

Fantastic business, lovely lad but nowhere near good enough. Best of luck to him.

He'll do we for them though, they play much more to his strengths.

Can see him terrorising a fair few defences.

The money has already been spent on someone a couple of days ago.

This could be one of the few times we actually make a profit on a player. Florida will be seeing some celebrations

Presumably the 30m includes add-ons given the earlier reports of an initial 20m + add ons?

Not that I'm complaining either way.

In which case signing James initially was a good piece of business. Came in for relatively little, filled a squad role for a few seasons until he wasn't needed, sold for healthy profit. Well done us.

If Dan James is going for 30 million, Lingard should be close to 40 million.

I really don’t know why people are surprised. We bought James for around 15 mil. Now he is more experienced and gained some very valuable big game experience with us. A fee of 20 + 10 for a young British player on affordable wages is very fair.
And he will be good for Leeds. Unlike people here, Bielsa knows what he is doing - and he has been chasing James for more than two years now.

As for us, our coaching team better start teaching Rashford, Greenwood, Martial and Sancho how to press, defend and support our full-backs.
James is what he is - a decent/mediocre player and not good enough as a starter for a top team. But there are good reasons why he started and successfully played in certain games, for example in our wins against City.

Pays for 1/2 a year's worth dividends to the Glazers.

Or a year of Ronaldo's wages.

Good profit. No space for him
In current squad and with the the likes of elanga, amad and shoretire, and Chong Pellestri doing okay on loan he just isnt needed

For those of you thinking this money will go towards a midfielder I’d think again! It seems obvious that it’s to cover some of the unexpected Ronaldo outlay

This is good I think. Nothing against James, he offered something a bit different for a while but with Sancho coming he is not needed, and doesn't really look like becoming good enough either. Certainly wish him the best.

Wait ? He was playing as a starter yesterday and today he's off ?

Anyway, good luck for him. Can't fault him or his efforts. Not the best player obviously but he did what he can and never slacked off. With him leaving I see no point to keep slaughtering him. Good luck.

You guys should treat him with respect.
I think most people are.

The reality for James is that he's way down the pecking order now. He's not going to get the games that a player his age needs. Moving to Leeds will be great for his career. Everyone is thankful for what he's done here and are wishing him success under Bielsa. He's a great lad and hopefully he can be more successful with Leeds.

Yep.

Not a bad auld swap really.

Now if we managed to offload Lingard too, then I'd hope we'd go for the midfielder.

Good deal for all involved if it goes through. It is difficult not to like James. Good character, has always given his all it seems and he has been a good squad player for us. As others have said, it was probably just a step too much and we have added a bit of quality in his position since he first arrived. Good bet from our side when signed, and decent piece of business now. Best of luck to him.

What was our starting price if it settled at 30?

Feels like a few years ago we'd be getting 4M tops for this kind of transaction.

Agree. James is very good tactical player. Not Park level but of the same squad use. Bielsa is a tactical geek who creates perfect niches for narrow specialists like Dan James.

He's not as bad as some make him out to be even if he's not quite good enough for us. However £30m is great business if true.

Would like to see evidence of Dalot tracking back. I think Dan is a significantly better defender, probably should have been a wing back and not a winger anyway.
While Dalot actually is a wing back. Not sure what kind of evidence there is for James being a better defender than Dalot. Even significantly better.

Great news. Makes you wonder why we have played him these games. Purely to put him in a shopping window? If we thought he was actually good enough to start in any game we wouldn’t sell him..
