Danny Welbeck | Ornstein: Chelsea interested

If they get him for a reasonable fee I'd be annoyed. Seems such an obvious pick up for us.

Can’t get his customary goal against us if we sign him. Smart.

If that means selling Delap and Jackson, then I'm all for it. In fact, it would probably signal that Jackson is on his way out and that he'd be used across all the attacking positions—up front, on the right wing, or on the left. In a year or two, we can always buy another striker

He will have a starting spot there instead of competing with Sesko or in some set ups, Mbeumo here.

Chelsea's ownership are being true to their word about things being different under Alonso. If I'm not mistaken, this would be their first signing who is over the age of 27 in four years.

Staying patient with this could be the move, let Chelsea set the fee, if it is ridiculous then leave it, if it seems reasonable then move forward.

He’ll be below the pecking order for Pedro and Delap.

Surely makes more sense to come back to United? If we are interested of course

He would be ahead of Delap.. by far

23 league goals in his last 2 seasons.

Assuming at least 1 if not both Jackson and Delap are off, then it's a smart move by Chelsea.

Can probably even afford to sell Jackson and loan out Delap and assess where he's at then.

United, England, Arsenal and maybe Chelsea?
That’s a cracking career for our Danny, made the most out of his talent, could’ve been even better if he was less injury prone in the early days.

He’s levels better than Delap who is barely a professional footballer.
Genuinely think Delap might be some sort of an industry plant they just threw in as a joke or a homage to your typical old school no.9 from the olden days.

Not sure Alonso use an inverted elbower in his formation

Be surprised if we weren’t interested if the fee is reasonable, but does seem like it is quite advanced. Maybe he has a preference for staying in the South.

Every teams fans seems to think he scores against them , he'd be on the road to 1000 if he scored even half as many as people seem to think he does.

5 goals 2 assists in 8 prem matches against us for Brighton. He's annoyingly consistent against us.

He had a good season last year, but it could have easily been his final flourish, like Wood had a few seasons ago. He is 36 in a few months, and at that age, the drop off can be immediate and severe.

Nostalgia is great but United need someone senior who is still guaranteed to be able to play a couple of games a week if necessary.

Pedro can play deeper and I think they played together at Brighton, so that’s part of the reason Alonso might be interested in hi 3-5-2.

He won't need to with Rogers, Palmer and Estevao all operating as 10s behind him. Also pretty sure Pedro has said he prefers to just be the 9 instead of being this hybrid 9/10 player all the time.

Jackson will likely leave and honestly don't think Alonso rates Delap at all, so even if he stays, the pecking order would be

1. Joao Pedro
2. Welbeck
3. Delap

I'm just glad we didn't welcome him back after he jumped ship the moment things got difficult post-Fergie.
