Danny Welbeck | Ornstein: Chelsea interested

No outgoings yet in attack (Hojlund's was effectively sealed last summer)
Shouldn't need outgoings to afford Welbeck, and purely numbers wise we can definitely add him without any negatives. With all the games we'll have, doesn't hurt having him added. Would finally give us 2 per position everywhere (even if an uninspiring 2 in plenty of positions, but at least the numbers would be there).

No idea what Brighton are asking but surely we could get a few million loan fee for Zirkzee. Plus the Greenwood money that we can't have been banking on this summer.

Pedro can play deeper and I think they played together at Brighton, so that’s part of the reason Alonso might be interested in hi 3-5-2.

Why would they play him deeper when he was great as a CF last season and they've just signed Rogers to play in the attacking midfielder spaces alongside Palmer?

Does he actually still have an affinity for United?

Or is there actually bitterness there?

Good signing for Chelsea if it happens. He can still play at a good level in limited minutes and brings more veteran presence and leadership to a squad that needs it. They can sell Jackson and fire Delap into the sun.

We need another forward as cover for Sesko as Mbeumo has not looked great at times when asked to play that role. It’s a no brainer imo, should be all over it and the fee should be reasonable.

Surely we need to get involved with this?
Why? He wasn't good for us 10 years ago, why should we get him now?

It would be a bit like Evans signing. Doesn't make much sense except nostalgia of a period which was better.

Would be a poor move to leave Brighton. He thrives when he plays regular football - and Brighton was the first time in us career, he's been one of the first names on the team sheet. I'd stay and enjoy the last few years of football he's got in him

I recall reading in Mitten’s fanzine that there was interest/talks in bringing him back two years ago and he would have been happy with the experienced squad player type role (similar to Evans). But ten Hag never pulled the trigger on it and he waited as long as he felt he could before signing a new deal with Brighton.

I know this is a forum of many different people and as such many different opinions, but it’s amazing to me when you consider some of the things this board is getting stick for this Summer, that they’re also getting stick for not being in for a 35 year old striker we sold 12 years ago.

Is it fair to say us Welbeck respecters really were proved right about the guy.

I even had one guy vote me the worst poster in the history of the website for my defence of Welbz . Plenty of other reasons to think it but not that one

Chelsea is after Danny Welbeck.

We should buy him to compete with Sesko and to help the younger players, such a no-brainer.

He got 13 goals last season which isn’t bad for a veteran striker

Yeah, but he also never scored more than 10 goals except the season (and scored 10 only twice on his career).

It just makes no sense whatsoever, cheap or not.

Chelsea just sustaining their annual quota of purchases from Brighton.
