Get him in for his expert chipping advice to the youngsters
There was a time where I’d have said 13 goals was a brilliant tally for Welbeck. He’s always been a really solid team player, but never chipped in with enough goals for a striker. He got 13 goals last season which isn’t bad for a veteran striker
And what would our defenders learn from him that they couldn’t learn better in the school yard?

As of now, United have seven senior options for the front three, plus younger players like Thompson and Lacey. They would need to sell someone before buying Welbeck. It’s an obvious move. Maybe have Chelsea set the fee first and then swoop in, having already agreed terms with him on the down low.

I could say the same for Lindelof, and while it would be still nuts to sign him, it would be less nuts.A player who has a wealth of experience, wouldn’t command a big transfer fee or big wages. Has a strong connection to the club. Has come off the back of a strong season. For a club that currently has one of the most talented young strikers on their books as the only number 9, who will need rotation as we are now in 4 competitions.
Zirkzee is most likely off and our academy strikers are still a season off really being able to chip in. If we’re bringing in a ‘veteran striker’ as a squad option there are few better choices.
What would Chibo Odi learn from Welbeck? How to miss clear-cut chances every match. And what would our defenders learn from him that they couldn’t learn better in the school yard?

We actually have five players now that can or have played as a striker:Strikers?
6th senseYou must have prompts when ever his name is uttered![]()
Lovely looking hair, I’ll give you thatHe can definitely offer better styling tips than Maguire, he is a lovely looking fella.
Chelsea is after Danny Welbeck.
We should buy him to compete with Sesko and to help the younger players, such a no-brainer.
Not in my opinion, as of now.Is he a better striker than Cunha and Mbeumo?

Mbeumo
Cunha
Sesko
Rashford
Zirkzee
You might say they aren’t good options, but I still do not expect United to move for another one unless someone is sold.
I think he’s a better CF than MbeumoNot in my opinion, as of now.

I’m sure we are trying to get rid of the two you mentioned too. But until that happens I feel like we will hesitate to replace them. We shall see.I think it's not a secret that we're looking to move on Zirkzee and Rashford (we might not succeed with the latter, but he's not a leading the line type of player either). Cunha can do a job there, but we need someone who can actually get on the end of things. And I don't see Mbeumo working as a lone striker either. It seems to me pretty clear that we need a backup/competition for Sesko. And we don't need to make room (apart from getting rid of Zirkzee). Cunha/Mbeumo/Amad/Dorgu and the young lads are competing for the wide positions, and on occasion Cunha can be used as a false nine.
With Welbeck we're talking about a super cheap (I assume) option for 1 or 2 seasons. It's a great move.
Quite literally does not make sense with Lindelof.I could say the same for Lindelof, and while it would be still nuts to sign him, it would be less nuts.
Again, Welbeck was bad for us almost 15 years ago. And after that, was bad for Arsenal. And then, was bad for Watford or whatever. Then for four seasons, he was bad for Brighton. Then, on the last two seasons, in a system that suited him quite well, he was decent for them.
He was also bad for England. So bad, that he didn’t play for them for the last 8 years. Despite that best backups for England were the likes of Toney and Watkins.
Yes, he grew up at United and scored 40 or so goals over 150 or so appearances over a decade ago. That episode ended back then, no reason to revive it. It would end with him scoring 2 goals over 15 clear chances he would get during the season.

2 more goals in 4 more games, playing as a solo striker, whereas Mbuemo floated between the middle and wide areas.Or alternatively, Welbeck scored more goals than Sesko, Mbuemo, Cunha and Bruno last season!
He wouldn't be an insane choice for a squad filler in a summer we need to spend heavily in other positions, and Sesko misses a lot of games.
I am not a scout. But if our 50 or whatever scouts we have cannot recommend a better alternative to Welbeck, then they would deserve getting fired on the spot.Quite literally does not make sense with Lindelof.
He’s not been bad at Brighton. He found his level there.
Again he’s would be coming in for pure rotational value. If you can point to another experienced striker who wouldn’t want to be starting every game. Let us know.
It depends what Chelsea are offering him. Good luck to himNo brainer. I’ll be livid if we let him go to Chelsea.
Would anyone on this forum prefer Zirkzee to Welbeck as a backup next season?
The words of someone who has some weird agenda as there are quite literally not.I am not a scout. But if our 50 or whatever scouts we have cannot recommend a better alternative to Welbeck, then they would deserve getting fired on the spot.
There are probably several hundred strikers better than him right there.
We already have Mbeumo and Cunha as strikers that won't kick up a fuss if not starting every week as CF. Welbeck doesn't do the job better than they do. If we are signing forwards, they need to be bigger improvements than Welbeck. The words of someone who has some weird agenda as there are quite literally not.
The point isn’t if there are better strikers out there. If course there are. But if there are ones who fit a very unique brief of being more towards the end of their career, low fee, low wages, experienced, a good professional, won’t kick up a fuss if not starting every week. (People point to Mateta, but he would want to be starting).
He also loves scoring against us, so that would be fixed.
Probably most of the strikers we could buy aren’t. So you say we shouldn’t buy another back-up striker? Is he a better striker than Cunha and Mbeumo?
If he was available for cheap enough, sure, but it would have to be very cheap.
We're also not in the position Chelsea are in of obviously lacking experience in the dressing room, which would make Welbeck (and other players they've been linked to like Henderson and Xhaka) particularly appealing for them.
Their oldest players last season were Sanchez, Cucurella and Tosin, all 27 at the start of the season. Whereas we had Mazraoui, Martinez, Bayindir, Bruno, Shaw, Maguire, Casemiro and Heaton all aged between 27 and 39. And even having lost Casemiro, we've already replaced him with a 29 year old Tielemans.
