Television Daredevil: Born Again

Are we supposed to like Heather? God, she's annoying. Bring back Karen.
For me, nobody will beat Karen for being annoying. She’s always been the worst part of the show for me - both in the way she’s written and the way she’s performed. It especially annoyed me when they didn’t know what to do with her character in season 2 so they had her just walk into a job as a journalist (after helping to get her predecessor murdered) in New York - the most competitive media environment in the world. Her writing sucked balls too.

Heather hasn’t reached that level of annoying for me yet. I don’t think we’re supposed to like her (why Matt likes her is a mystery though) - she’s meant to act as a foil, forcing Matt to ask why he does what he does.

Yep she’s getting so annoying now. Still confused by the ending of the last episode.
why did Matt take the bullet for Fisk?

Poindexter said something along the lines of a good man will protect his enemies. Maybe it stuck in his head

Yeah, sort of the only explanation I have but he’s still the one who helped Pointdexter escape. Well im assuming he “assisted” him with his escape by banging his head against the table. Just weird, he escaped by killing people and yet DD felt the need to be “good” in that moment anr save Fisk’s life.

Gosh that “deputy mayor of communications” also has annoying punchable face. Can’t see how there’s any “conclusion” to the Fisk story with 1 episode to go, so I assume this storyline will continue into season 2.

Only just read that’s Michael Gandolfini, James’s son.

Wow. We just had a chat earlier in the Pitt’s thread (another tv series) about Bryan Cranstons daughter. Hollywood is filled with nepo babies.
He actually played the young Tony Soprano in that spin off film they had ironically.

Must start watching that - The Pitt. Everyone is saying good things about it.

I thought that scene where Matt was able to clock that it was Dr Glenn Muse was after…based on a 2D drawing on a piece of paper was ridiculous.

Frank vs the Fanbois was literally insane. Every Punisher scene was just brutality this episode.

Mayor Kingpin doing Kingpin things. I hope we see a couple more cameos. Kingpins inititive effects a LOT of heroes who operate in NY. We could have Luke Cage roll up and it would fit right in.

I think the finale paid off, and good to see Matt, Frank and the Kingpin all "born again".

But I have to say, the whole Muse plot was unecessary, and at some point Disney needs to understand that fans have certain expectations, and sidelining fan favourites like Karen and Bullseye for Heather and the Muse is not going to please anyone.

So apparently all the middle episodes with Muse were written by one team of writers.

Feige didn't like the quality of their output and fired them. The first, eighth and ninth episodes were written the new team. Season 2 will also be written by them.

Really enjoyed the season, the ending sets up season 2 very nicely. Punisher is awesome.

The talk of needing an army is heavily hinting at the reintroduction of The Defenders at some point. I reckon they'll bring back the Netflix lot & add the likes of Echo & possibly Kate Bishop. Would be awesome if they could get Spider-Man, but doubt that's possible with Sony having those rights.

That makes sense - and bodes well for the second series - those episodes were highpoints with the muse story being a total backwater.

I'm also glad they have moved away from having an obsession with overlong "oner" fight scenes where daredevil punches the same guy out 2 or three times when he takes on a crew of baddies. The obsession with doing these almost made me give up on watching the series early on in season 1. It's only thanks to the comments in here that I persisted as I just found the violence boring and repetitive.

Looking forward to the next series.

It still feels weird to see hyper violence, like Fisk crushing the chief's head, on Disney.

But I enjoy it.

He's not exactly the most stable of guys.
And maybe he guessed, correctly, that they’d leave the dumbest corrupt cop in all of NYC to guard him once he’d been captured.

I assume he’s going to break out Lalo on his way out, and they’ll be the new team-up in season 2, which could be fun.

Just finished this. Overall it was decent.

The court episode was the best one and introducing The Punisher into it was good. I don’t understand the reason with the Muse introduction, it just felt unnecessary.

Looking forward to season 2.

Good series which I finished last night.

Is it just me who finds it extremely annoying how many characters seem to spend their entire time telling Matt that what he’s doing is wrong, barely seeming to acknowledge how he basically saves the city time after time and somehow does it without killing anyone?

The scene with Bullseye near the end was a bit odd. I originally assumed it was Matt’s intention but the way it then played out suggests otherwise (sorry a bit cryptic but trying to avoid spoilers).

I read about Jessicah Jones returning next season. I hope at least Luke Cage does as well still.

Surprised born again didn't get more love. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thought it was a bore, and I've no idea why they got rid of the two supporting characters who were a big part of why the original was good? They were actual good characters unlike most side characters in these shows. Just a weird narrative choice. Kingpin doesn't work either as a main (or second-main) character, he's best as the villain showing up every now and again.

Completely agree.

They used to annoy, me, I'm glad they're gone for most of it.

This weekend, Marvel fans at New York Comic Con got a first glimpse at new episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, via a trailer that was meant to stay as an exclusive to those in the room.

However, part of the footage has now leaked online — after none other than Jessica Jones herself, actress Krysten Ritter, posted (then deleted) a snippet on Instagram.

While Ritter's clip is now gone, the internet of course took notice and has shared it more widely. In the snippet, below, you can see our first glimpse at Ritter as Jessica Jones in more than five years, as well as plenty of other returning Daredevil faces.

Just finished the first episode of s2. A lot of supporting character buildup but I liked it. I like how they actually address how the rest of the country would respond and the federal government to what Mayor Fisk is doing here. Could have done with more than one episode premiere though.

After a slow start, things really picked up with today's episode!

Just finished episode 4 this is pretty good so far this season. Correcting the production issues from s1 has proven to work for me. You could tell the course correcting in s1 was on the right track.
Loving the focus on Bullseye, I think all of his scenes are good so far. They are fleshing him out giving him some personality and development.

So glad Vanessa got murdered. I was hoping for her to die even in the Netflix years. Depending on time maybe we see one of Kingpins other ladies show up. He has much more interesting future wives.

was about time she got what was coming. Foggy and Nadeem finally gave justice. Fisk let loose now too which makes the rest of this season very interesting

Agree about bullseye. A really interesting angle to his character and I wonder how it plays out.

I just finally started watching S1 of this. In episode 5 now and the pace still feels a bit off to me. Hope it gets better. I watched the original show before it.

On a related note...came across this video with VDO discussing his roles. Always funny to see how unlike Kingpin he is in rl:

D'Onofrio as Kingpin must be one of the best casting decisions ever outside of the most obvious ones in the very best shows of all time.

It does. There should be discussion about it here from last year. They made big changes behind the scenes and the effects of that start halfway through the season.
