Darren Fletcher | u18s Manager

Loved how he handled the Kyle Walker question.

Really good answers both to that and the academy stuff especially. It's clear he didn't want to get pulled into Amorim's comment while still making a clear statement on how this club should behave with the academy. It's clear to see that many in the club didn't like Amorim's comments and disregard to it.

Anyone else hoping he gets the job until the end of the season?

The way he speaks is very impressive. I'm Fletcher-in.

He comes across very well in interviews but lacks experience. I really liked the in-game decisions against Burnley. Ideally, we give him 5 games as a mini-test to see if he can handle it.

I'd back him. Speaks well, is rated at the club by different sets of decision makers likely for a reason.

The only person that turfed him away from the first team was Amorim, which means hes even more likely to be a good choice.

Speaks very well. But we’ve had managers that can talk the talk… it’s all about them producing on the pitch.

Yes, of course. I hope he has that within him. I'd love to see whether he can meet that challenge and be given the chance to.

I also think he speaks much better than previous managers. Jose was politically savvy, but Fletcher is humble, intelligent, and the way he spoke today about the young players, I mean, he's hard not to love.

It's great that he speaks well. That's part of being a good manager for sure. My concern obviously would be how is he as a coach? Getting players to play the way he wants them to.

This would be a good indicator perhaps.

I agree. I’d love it if we went down a different route and gave him a chance at this until the end of the season at least. We’ve been down the Ole route before and Carrick failed at Middlesbrough so not really much to go off there. Just hope we don’t make the same mistakes and offer whoever it is the full time job. We need to go all out for a proper guy like Enrique/Ancelotti

His answer about Walker is really good. Not making a big deal of it but still pointing out that they completely missed it

Club hasn't got a clue what to do, so a decent game on Sunday and you can see him getting it.

Ole can't get it now as the media have spoken, so the second he loses a couple they'll be on him saying they told us so, and never shut up about it, Carrick seems a solid option, but why's he not here already if they really want him.

Fletcher seems like a good option that is fairly risk free media wise, has low expectations from the off, and easy enough to move back to his old role in the summer whichever way it goes.

Like the way he responded to the Walker issue too, and the disallowed goal.

He's not a leader of men is he.. He's more high school gym teacher. And it's all a bit too over reverential. If that's his character then fair enough, but if it's not I'd love him to come out swinging a bit.

I think it's very clear he is.

Good on Fletch for calling out the bullshit refereeing, in a clever way I might add.

Fletcher or Carrick for me. It’s such a small sample size for both that it’s just a coin toss. Maybe Fergie came in and pushed a little more for the Scot, who knows. I liked that he made attacking Substitutions and the people who talk about Fletcher say he’s very intelligent when it comes to football, so if he gets the shot I hope he does well. Getting Sesko to perform may also buy him some points. If no one is appointed before Brighton that may also up his chances.

Great to hear what he said and how he talked about the academy and the young players.
Also the fact he's said something about Walker and the goal is better than saying zero about these decisions.
Very impressed with him.

I do. He seemed a little nervous, naturally, at the press conference and against Burnley.

But I would give him the role until the end of the season. Good experience for him, and an opportunity for him to grow into role, whether now or in the future.

I'm not sure he has that presence to immediately inspire, but he is interim, and our situation is far from ideal. Tough game against Brighton. Be great to have a super performance and give INEOS something to think about.

It was a breath of fresh air. Holding referees to account. And he did it in a no-nonsense manner. I mean, as a character he is superb. The way he spoke about the academy is befitting a United manager. Now let's just hope he gets a chance to show what he's got.

Hoping for him and Carrick duo. I'd probably kiss my tv/monitor during the game when I see both again, even on the sidelines.

We used to have the mighty Benni McCarthy as specialist striker coach!
And of course, there are specialist goal-keeping coaches. I know about Benni McCarthy as a striker coach. Players seemed to have a good report of his coaching. My thoughts are that with a young team, defensive and midfield coaches might be a good idea, also. There are specific skill sets, positioning, and reading the game that differ for different positions. It could help.

I’d rather that than Ole to be honest.

We’ve seen what Ole can do and I’m happy for that to left in the past whilst we give someone else that opportunity.

He must be guaranteed the job if they don't get knocked out. Ole and Carrick nonsense has gone very quiet.

That was the difference! Both goals felt different.

I agree, why not give him a go? He could be great.

Not sure why anyone would want any of the other options over him. He's the most connected with the academy and should likely know best what we're after, after seeing first hand what we don't. The others hardly have any pedigree to really make it worthy of being an interim.

Seeing players actually looking for his runs and playing the ball earlier was so fecking refreshing. I feel like our attack has been devoid of that for years. Like we just completely forgot how to play with a 9.
