Darren Fletcher | u18s Manager

If he gets us playing well and wins against Brighton, it would be not be a bad idea to give him a few more games to see how this pans out.

He's been at the club and involved behind the scenes for 4-5 years now so he's much closer to the situation and perhaps understanding of what is needed for this interim period than Ole and Carrick, both who have been away for 4+ years.

Anyone else hoping he gets the job until the end of the season?

If we impress and win on Sunday then absolutely. Burnley game was frustrating but we created so many chances whilst looking comfortable at the back. A good start even if not the result we wanted.

The problem for him I think is that if he does get it and does well, say he gets us CL, do people still want him long term? If we go for someone else and he stays at the club, that is going to hang over that new manager coming in.

If he comes in, does well and doesn't get it, you think he would have to leave and I wouldn't fancy his chances of coming back if he does, which is a shame because I think this job is bigger than your experiences or philosophy, I think you have to be the right person for it above all else, and it seems like he is.

100%

If he gets the rest of the season and does well and looks the part that would be a best case scenario IMV.

Assuming we play anything like we played against Burnley, I'd leave fletch in. Though I'm sure the board doesn't want to disrupt the work he's doing with the youth teams so there is that factor to consider

Let’s see how Brighton goes…

If Omar and Jason have in all their wisdom limited the caretaker role down to a 3 name shortlist of Ole, Carrick and Fletch. Then it’s not too difficult to imagine Fletch getting the nod.

The more I read of his interviews I don't see the point of bringing anyone else in for the rest of the season.

I'd leave him in there and see how he does.

I’d rather that than Ole to be honest.

We’ve seen what Ole can do and I’m happy for that to left in the past whilst we give someone else that opportunity.

Yeah I think its too soon to give Ole another shot, I would rather them give it to Carrick at this point.

I don’t really feel like it’s giving Ole another shot. It’s another shot if there’s a possibility of him being offered the permanent position. But it just really doesn’t seem like they’d do that. Carrick on the other hand could be if he does well enough.

He would have to do amazingly well for me to consider that i.e it's not just about CL places. I mean legit having the team playing really good possession, pressing, counter pressing, controlling the game/opponents, being good in defence, rest defence, creative/effective attacking patterns, sustainable football, platforming the players, the whole shebang etc. Of course, I would judge that in a way relative to the talent of the team as I don't expect the team to turn into prime Barca and win every game; I would have to see a clear way of playing that has been elevated by coaching that also produces results.

Great answers in the press conference, I like him but it’s easy to be like that when you’re only in for two games, it’s the press conferences and the questions you face when you haven’t won for ten games is when shit gets bad. Amorims first press conferences were great too.

In other words, you can’t take anything from them.

I always found Amorim very wishy washy. Fletcher just comes across with a lot of conviction, maybe it's the Scottish accent

And bear in mind we already gave Ole a payout of £9 million. I know it would just be interim this time, but still, feels very much like a regression.

Top 3 enough?

This post has aged like milk left out in the sun.
And yet on probably every other night it could have been true seeing how game panned out and the chances and all that

Too soon and hard to say obviously but I'm impressed with Fletcher so far and he comes across very well. People have been slagging him off for a few years questioning what he does and brings to the table and job for the boys and all that, hope he shows everyone now what he is made off

I just amused at the comment, just as I would have been if it had been me making it. Nothing more :)

I understand
Also not making anything out of it
Just crazy how that pretty much could and would if have been the case on pretty much any other night considerering what happened in the game and those goals Burnley got

Good to see Dazzler calling out the “ridiculous” disallowed goal and Dorgu not making a meal out of being stamped on.

Overdue.

There is such a thing as new manager bounce, but I'd like to see what Fletcher does for a few more games before I consider a different person as interim manager/coach.

Well, we haven’t seen it yet.

We brought Pogba back for 80 million after giving him away, this club is insane when it comes to wasting money. I love Ole but he should not come back, I reckon the club are thinking it would get the fans off their back bringing back a legend. Nearly every red I know said Ole should not come back.

One thing I will say about Fletch is that he is a lot more engaging in pressers than Ole or Carrick.

Maybe it's the command of the language, but Fletcher comes across so well. Would love to see him get United a great win over Brighton.

Meh, the performance was good enough. We had stuff like shots on the bar, disallowed goals and missed chances and they scored one off a lucky deflection. I mean...
Story of a lot of this season

Not this again.. he's a scot. He speaks English for feck sake. He's one of many directors in England biggest football. Coming across articulated should be the fecking bare minimum
Maybe if you are articulate, less gets lost in the translation in the dressing room? Even if the players are not fluent in English, it is easier to understand a manager who is fluent speaking English than one who is not. So it's not double translation jeopardy. Especially if your tactics are complex.

He’ll also play the likes of Lacey a lot more I think. Although it will be hard for him to get game time with Mbuemo and Amad back.

I can't see Lacey getting much game time once Amad is back which is a shame but we are strong on that side.
A sixth month loan would be great for him with a good League one or Championship side.

It's so great to see him get this opportunity to be honest.... always liked him, especially in his redcafe scapegoat era. This place used to hate him........

With the way Amad is playing and Lacey being promising… makes you wonder whether we needed Mbuemo. That money could have gone on a midfielder instead.

Well Amad was seen as the full back at the time. Because our brilliant executives were happy to invest in a formation that they clearly never had any real faith in

Still, a nice problem to have I suppose. Maybe Amad could play some on the left and Mbeumo could play some matches up front. It'll all have to be a bit fluid.
