I thought I saw that one of the add-ons was around 5 million after he plays 10 games and another 5 million after he plays 50, is that right? That sounds like guaranteed money.
Yes that's about right as reported at time of signing. This is guaranteed money, not the winning Balon Dor type of add-ons. Seems alot of money but then I think we have overpayed for Martinez and could end up paying a Nunez type fee for Antony.

It's definitely a seller's market at the moment and a shortage of real quality also.

Point taken and you might prove right!

Edit: Not sure about you getting all that money back if he flops hard though.
Agreed, then we'll lose out on £10m roughly as the absolute worst case scenario. That's a very small amount (relatively) for a worthwhile gamble.

Is that an astronomical amount then? If it's including add-ons it would mean things like him winning the PL and/or CL and scoring over 25-30 goals per season.

Then £85m is bargain!! No?

Or he doesn't achieve all of that so he costs around £50-60m which is what we'll get for him if we decide to get rid.
From what I remember being reported, it was close to £65m fixed with ~£10m based on appearances (20/50 appearances or something like that) and around £10m based on club success.. which could be anything.. As simple as qualifying for the CL to winning it.. No clue..
But I think its very likely to reach £75m soonish if he is playing regularly.. If he is a total disaster and they want to move him on in Jan, it'll still be around £70m.. and in that case, I dont think anyone is paying that amount for him..

All hypothetical.. he might be a huge success.. but it wasnt ~50-60m

This is total nonsense for me, seller's market? It's been the same market for 20 years now. You will hardly find a club that is forced to sell players in the last 2 decades. I mean look at Barcelona, they were supposedly forced to sell or whatever and they have spent 200m on new players. There's no such thing as seller market, there's a seller-buyer market only, on which astute and reckless sellers and buyers operate.

With the easily achievable add ons you're looking at ~£75m minimum.

So if he flops you're looking at a loss quite a lot more than £10m imo

That's true, so if £75m is closer to the mark (won't be over that as it's already close to the final total) we could be looking at a £25m loss. Based off the fact we can sell Ibe for £20m+ to a non oil club so we can get at least £50m for Nunez.

Plus Newcastle will be happy to lap up big club players to make a statement in the next few windows. Lukaku is approaching 30 whereas Nunez is my little baby daughter's age. God, I'm old.

The real gamble isn't financial though. It's that he might be so underpants that he sabotages your whole season.

That may not happen of course, but it's still a perplexing signing when a similar amount could have landed ye someone like Joao Felix or Nkunku who would have fit your existing system like a glove. Even if he scores plenty, his first touch and hold up play is dire and this may have an overall net negative on the team (especially considering that he is replacing a super slick operator like Mané). A very risky buy.

As we have found out, it isn't as easy to offload failures when they are on big money. Do we know what Nunez's wage is?

Not that I think he will be a total failure, just not worth the money that has been spent on him.

It includes appearances so those are pretty much nailed add ons. You at least should know those details

He cost 100 Million. I don't care how you split it up, or what currency you prefer to deal in, or how much you recoup when you offload him to Palace in two years. He's going to be an embarrassment if he keeps going on like this. He's a big lump who bullied the shite out of the portuguese league.

Jesus will outscore him at less than half the price.

Not really, I'm not the one throwing around words like astronomical. :)
He’s a few easy add ons away from becoming your most expensive ever transfer. Joint top with the Monaco lad heading to Real in world football this summer.

Surely astronomical is losing your best youth talent for free, signing him for 125m, then losing him for free again.

Otherwise you will run out of words for that scenario. :P

Right now he doesn't look like he's so syncronyzed with the rest of pool's team but I guess he also needs time

Salah will be the one who suffers the most as he won’t have Firmino’s link up play which used to create so many chances for him. Nunez might end up scoring a decent amount of goals but I expect their overall level to drop a bit as far as their attack is concerned.

Don’t you think paying €100m with add-ons for a player who had one great season in Portugal is astronomical? If United did this, you can imagine the press losing their minds with disapproval. Liverpool have a pedigree of finding good first team talent and transforming players, but even for them, this one’s a gamble. I’ll reserve judgment for things like first touch and finishing for the season, but this much money for a one season wonder (so far) is something I wouldn’t do.

To be honest, he's improved in this game and his off the ball movements were pretty good. I'm sure he can be trained to bang in goals. One thing that's hilarious is his decision making in the final third. He is definitely not going to be the brains of that Liverpool attack anytime soon - just an executioner of good work done by Salah/Firmino/Diaz/Jota.

ravioli ravioli give me the formuoli
For €30-40m its a good deal. For €50-60m its a gamble. For €100m its a gamble against a well known rigged casino where you stake your house. For €100m in order to replace fecking Mane (not a transition but a straight up replacement) its a gamble against a well known rigged casino where you stake your house and one of your kidneys.

Firmino hasn't been a regular for a while now. Salah didn't suffer from playing with Jota who is not all that in the build up himself.

Not sure you quite got the numbers correct there buddy.
Might wanna compare the price of Pogba to Nunez by the way..
I think the James Webb telescope is about to focus on the Nunez transfer fee so keep an eye out

Like Lukaku, he'll score plenty of goals, but not sure he'll make the scousers a better team.
Can’t believe people read a lot into pre-season still. I’ve seen many times United have a good pre-season then lose the first game, and vice-versa. The player having a bad pre-season means absolutely nothing, same as us beating Liverpool 4-0. It’s all about gaining match fitness.

Go check who the epl record transfer is then come back.
What? Do proper checks on costs? On Redcafe? Are you new here? :p

Anyway, to not disappoint you I checked and you're right. He cost 107 million. Of which you saw zero money back when he left. That's a net loss of 107 million out of your club. That's disastrously "astronomical".

Getting Berbatov vibes - not in the way he plays, but how Berbatov came to United and it meant we had to try to change the way we play.

89m pounds from 124 that's almost enough to buy a Carroll.
