A lot of talk that he could be on the market this summer. Sule and Hernández are two big money centre halves at Bayern, and while Alaba was probably expected to be the left-back - the emergence of Alphonso Davies has been something special.

Anyway, with us having a few gaps to plug, I think he’d be a great Sancho+1 signing. Would be cheaper than the Sancho + 3 we ideally need, but would provide a world class option in all 3 roles. He’s only about 27, and if we could get Sancho, adding him would be like getting Sancho plus DM, LB and CB all at a level that is better than the first choice options we currently have. Perhaps in future windows, we can sign specialists in some roles and consign him to one specialist role.

I think he’s been mainly linked with Real Madrid, but he’s a brilliant player.

Think he’ll sign a new deal. Hernandez is linked with a move away also, btw. I think Bayern would shift him before allowing Alaba to leave.

Hernandez was injured all the time and is nowhere near keeping Alaba out of the squad. Alaba is also still more reliable in defense than Davies, who however has his unmatched speed going for him (both in offense and defense). With Süle still recovering, Hernandez probably on the way out before making a real impression, and Boateng not getting any younger, I can't see us let Alaba go, unless we also bring at least one high quality defender in.

I don't see Bayern willingly selling him until he's over the hill. Davies or no Davies, he's a key character in that team and has remained world class despite a number of position changes. He's basically Philipp Lahm mk2.

There is also the will of the player to consider. I appreciate everyone telling me how good he is, but the only reason I have started this conversation is that there has been some talk of him moving. Contract running down for a start.

think he'll stay at Bayern. Also really unsure whether he sees himself as a LB, CB or even CM going forward ... but Bayern would be stupid not to re-sign him. Hernandez is always injured and also not that good, really ... Alaba is better both at both positions.

Alaba I Can see being used as a part exchange deal to help bring Sane to the club. CB for City, LW for Bayern.

I'd love to take him, he is a world class player and technique-wise is a level above Shaw. Not sure why Bayern would sell though, plus I feel like most top teams will be all over him if he is available.

Alaba would be a brilliant upgrade at LB. Can’t see us going for it though as it’s not a priority position even though we could improve upon it.

No thanks. Had enough of players who leave top clubs and then don't give their all for United, and if he's leaving Bayern there is a problem with him.

Sometimes people want something new. Alaba started his career at Bayern and is still there a decade later.
I think he wants the chance to play as a CM or DCM. He wont get that at Bayern (Kimmich), so a combination of money and playing time in the midfield could lure him away from Munich.

I'd love If we spent big on him, I think we could even put him in his favourite position in midfield and we'd have cover for LB and CB too.

Chances of leaving Bayern is slim but If we trebled his wages and showed a bit of ambition again this summer then I think he would think of it. Serial winner

When did he move from FB to CB? Also how old is he?

(edit: googled it, still only 28. seems like he'd be older for how long he's been around.)

How old is he now? He’s undoubtably an amazing player and could play 3 positions to a really high level for us. Think he’s also well suited to the premier league. Definitely one of my favourite players around.

If you're willing to fork out approx. 600k/week, sure

That actually makes alot of sense. He would reunite with Pep too
It would make no sense at all. He's an irreplacable part our central spine. We don't close gaps by tearing up even bigger ones.

This season he started on the left and after a couple of games Süle and Hernandez got injured badly. So there were only Boateng and Martinez left for CB positions. Martinez is an okayish CB but also a bit slow and prone to injuries. In addition to that he is no Hummels/Boateng when it comes to passing and playing long balls from the back. Alaba can play these passes and all in all he has been a revelation as left CB. And because a certain young Canadian convinced as a left back, there is no need to shift Alaba back.

Bayern want to renew the contract, however if Alaba decides to try another league, this would be the right moment. He won all there is to win with Bayern and just turned 28. He's got easily 5+ years left on the top.

Well said "Sometimes people want something new" especially after such a long successful career at Bayern Munich and yes apparently his big wish is to play in midfield

Should Alaba leave Bayern Munich then he would surely get better offers than from us but Alaba behind Pogba and Fernandes would be

He would literally be the perfect DM for our team. I’d be willing to spend good money on that!

If he leaves Bayern Munich it will be to Man. City surely? Such a Guardiola player really with all the positions he can fill on the pitch pretty well.

Man. City still have a weakness at left back and could also need more in midfield if their ban is upheld so them signing him would make plenty of sense. Just a question of whether Bayern really want to cash in on him.

I imagine he’d want to play Champions League football :)

True. Depends how much he loved playing under Pep though. I'm sure Man. City would be high on his list if he left Bayern anyway.

Perhaps for Pep. Otherwise I’d imagine almost certainly he’d prefer to go to Manchester United if given the choice. Provided we were a CL club with good players, I can’t imagine a Bayern player of his age doesn’t view United more favourably than City.

No brainer if he's available for 60M EUR. Would rather him at left back instead of midfield though.

Yeah px deals hardly ever happen but this summer may make them more attractive to clubs
This move would make some sense as alaba has always spoke highly of pep... mendys injury record alone would be a reason to look at options and the fact he could play at cb or dm an added bonus
A 2 year cl ban might be a spanner in the works though

I agree with the OP. If we could make that happen, it would be a way to paper over some cracks and actually have it to work. Like flex-tape.

On a side note, I met him in Vegas once in 2016. He was quite friendly with me, and I can reveal that I tapped him up.

Would be amazing, but he'd make a lot of sense for City, who happen to have a player Bayern are after.
