There are two types of transfers I absolutely hate

a- if we paid silly money for players. Unfortunately most British clubs aren't desperate to sell which means that most EPL signings tend to fall in that category
b- If we buy squad members ie players who have no chance in hell of being more then extra bodies on the bench. In my opinion we should always go for players with the potential to be more then cannon fodder.

Brooks doesn't fall in either category. He's what I like to call a SAF's type of signing ie a versatile young EPL proven player on a realistic fee.
If the deal is something like £10m or £15m initially plus bonuses (up to another £20m) then I can understand it. Otherwise it's too big a risk. Bonuses depending on appearances and staying free of injuries. Paying £35m upfront for a player who's not shown he's fully recovered from such a bad year long injury is crazy. I can see why people rate him higher than, say, Buendía.

did anyone watch Wales game today? If so how was he?
He was ok. Just ok. The game was poor to be honest and so were most of the players. Brooks was substituted off and his replacement scored the winner in the 94th minute.

I would say today wasn't the game to judge him on.

Think it was more about him getting his fitness. As you say he did OK.

Didn’t score three goals and get two assists. Not worth 35m

I’m a big fan of this player, and I’d have gone for him over VDB as a back up 10/7. He has something, and is a local lad.

Hearing rumours he is going to Leicester...
Guarantee starting in there as their RW option is just so much low quality and at the same time bad thing for us since Brooks will upgrade their starting XI.

The thing I dont get with Giggs is why did he hype us to buy James over this lad?

Same counts arguably the harder foot to play on, plays on the side we needed covering for god knows how long, has some good technical abilities instead of just pace - I wonder if Giggs is unfortunately a but of a Raiola type agent:lol:

I mean, basic research would tell you Brooks suffered a serious injury in pre season last year..

Not for me, saw a earlier poster say “do you you just want us to sign 1st team players”
Yes because right now the starting 11 isn’t good enough
Upgrading the 11 will force some of the current 11 to become squad players thus improving the squad as a whole.

If Dortmund fail to complete negotiations for a Sancho replacement by COP Friday, it is expected we will move for Brooks. A deal is all but oven-ready.

Signing the likes of Brooks is not progress. He is a basic footballer who will not add much value to our attack. I would just leave Greenwood there on the right.

Just like there was going to be something happening last Friday/Saturday with Sancho? Your pal is leading you a merry dance and you're lapping every bit of it up.

Brooks is a decent player, but as the long term alternative to Sancho?
and I'm hearing £50 Million being bandied about...?!?!

I can honestly see us being so desperate that we do a double deal for Brooks and King and blow £70-£80 Million....!!

Mate stop it. It looks intriguing at first but it's really stale and making you look really stupid now. Stop the WUMs

If any other team of our stature went for Brooks and King (they aren’t because they have brains) they would get them for combined 15-20 million.

If we pay anything over £15m for Brooks and not get Sancho... it shows the club are not really serious about their moto "Manuttd do not wish to over pay". If Sancho at £108m is over paying anything over £15m brooks is over paying too.

But watch us end up paying £40m for Brooks and labelling it a good deal. Pathetic.

And what do we do when Greenwood gets injured or is in need of rotation?

To be fair, 15M is a fair price for Brooks. It's the same amount we paid for Dan James. Youth and potential in the package

Yeah, its a fair price. If we buy him, the figure will be close to £50m than £15m.

Daniel James. No need to pile the team with same calibre of players. We need quality not quantity. Brooks is same level as James.

Bumping threads without any remote links so frequently on here now. There is nothing to suggest this guy is a back-up to Sancho.

Fair enough. Think James is better at LW though and Brooks a better bet at RW. Either way, reinforcement needed!

Nobody thinks we should sign Brooks to start or because he's world class. He's a clear improvement to our squad depth and the deal should be absolutely simple to do. I'd definitely sign him.

Maybe for me, but Sancho has to be the priority.

Commercially, spending the 100m for Sancho makes more sense than 50m or even 15m for Brooks. Sancho, the vastly superior footballer, already has global appeal. Brooks could be a useful squad player for us, and we do need to strengthen the squad, but for me the priority is strengthening the first XI. Sancho would strengthen the first XI...Brooks would not.

We can sign Championship players until mid-October, right?

Would strongly imagine we'll sign him after October 5th if we fail with Sancho/Bale
