It's always nice when you watch almost every match a player plays in a season and then he signs for United in the summer. Actually I don't know if it's always nice, this is the first time it has ever happened. But it's nice.

Something I would like to know is what part, if any, the stat guys working for the club played in this transfer. De Gea fits my profile of the ideal goalkeeper perfectly and I wonder whether the stat guys had any say in what is important and what isn't, the relative value of different attributes etc.

The Reds defender has taken to Twitter to offer his support for the man who is set to play behind him next season following Edwin van der Sar's retirement.

The Spaniard's style has already caught the eye of the United centre-back.

"David de Gea welcome bro!" Tweeted Ferdinand. "Another quality young player signed, Manchester United have had a nice bit of movement in this transfer window.

I have no idea about the answer to your question but I only recently discovered we have a "chief statistician" at the club, when he was pointed out by the MUTV commentator watching a reserve game. Feck knows how influential he is when it comes to scouting new signings.

it is always a risk with foreign players, one day they might want to move back home or to somewhere similar to their country.

being an atletico born and bred, real madrid is probably almost impossible for him to join, even in 6 or 7 years time.

at this moment, real and barca are the only 2 clubs in europe or in the whole world that perhaps can unsettle a player that we have no intention of selling.

the most important thing for de gea now is to settle in quickly, on and off the field. i'm sure his united teammates will help him, while his family and girlfriend () also reportedly are going to join him in manchester as well. that should help him a lot.

welcome to Manchester United, David De Gea, i hope you will be our number one for the next 12-15 years at the very least.
