Hard to say whether this was a very very good performance from Italy or whether it was a very very poor one from Turkey. Most likely a mixture of both.

Mostly the latter IMO. If Turkey played with more confidence, they would have tested Italy way more and had them defend way more. Still, I'll give credit to Italy; their pressing game was very good very reminiscent of Sarriball at its best.

To be fair it's the first game and it's at Rome, Italy on paper are much better but even considering that Turkey have been really underwhelming. Need to wake up if they want any hope in staying in the competition.

Very professional, dominant performance by Italy. They look really good both on and off the ball.

Turkey offered absolutely nothing to threaten the Italians. Shocking defending at times and they looked absolute lost for ideas when they did have the ball.

Italy has put a high marker for themselves out of the gate. But that standard was a bit inflated the fact that Turkey was so poor. Italy is strong in the center and up the middle...it completely showed in the 2nd half even while Turkey did their part to make it easy for Italy.

Italy's tempo and energy were very good it must be said.

Great performance. Turkey were shit and negative but still, Italy completely dominant, excellent at sustaining pressure on them, being patient and getting in dangerous positions, and didn't give Turkey a sniff. Tougher tests to come, just unlikely they'll have any challenge in the group stage IMO.

I really thought Jorginho infront those two old CB's would be a recipe for disaster but Turkey didn't ever bother testing those legs. This sort of opponent is perfect for Jorginho. He can dictate the game perfectly for hours and hours without dropping any sweat against teams like this.

Italy passed well and worked hard all game. Will be interesting to see how they are against better opposition.

How's Locatelli been?
Hasn't properly caught the eye but the Turk manager hauled off his 6 and 8 after 65 minutes so probably safe to assume that if I'd been watching closer he and Jorginho woulda impressed me. Turks certainly couldn't get the ball into midfield at all.

On paper Italy, England and Portugal are the best teams in the tournament right after France so they should all have a good tournament.

Italy will face better opponents later on though. Turkey were rubbish.

Dig up stupid!
A young Turkey side froze on the night. They didn't get close to Italy, barely made a tackle all night. Italy couldn't have asked for an easier start, I can't see anyone else giving them so much time on the ball with no pressure

Be interesting to see what Turkey turn up against Wales given they'll have a partisan crowd behind them

Italy destroyed them. The moment Turkey opened up they got ripped apart. A lot of people were picking Turkey to get a result given their recent play, but they got absolutely smothered.

Italy's passing and pressing was very good, can't wait to see what this team looks like with Verratti in there.

Terrible match in terms of a contest. Italy were completely dominant and Turkey were dire.

Very dissappointed with Turkey. Couldnt keep the ball or threaten an attack

Italy dominated the ball and attacked, but were so narrow on the flanks with right footers wanting to play 15 yards inside from the lines on the left and left footer wanting to play 15 yards inside from the lines on the right. Italy had some poor efforts at goal too, but they just kept going and got a few breaks. Jorginho dominated in midfield without the help of a player like Kante - was dissappointed with Locatelli's effect on the game. Yukuslu was about the only Turkey player who had a decent/good game in a game they were dominated

That third goal was absolutely lovely. From the one who intercepts and picks it out high in the air, to the two players who receive it with one foot and pass it on with the other, not breaking stride.

I bet on Spizzanola to win MOTM, any idea how/when that's announced?

Jokes aside, we're a highly technical side with great tactical organization. If you don't press the combination of those two means you'll be spending a looooong 90 minutes camped in your box. If you press us you might have some success but you're also exposing yourself by giving us space to attack into

We're a paper tiger. We'll keep beating the weaker sides, but i don't see us beating better sides like France or Portugal

Defenders are old, De Bruyne and Witsel not fit, Hazard been brutal for Madrid.

Positives are that Castagne is a better wingback than they normally have opposite Meunier (if they start him), Tielemans is better at running a game than their normal options there and Lukaku in form.

Italy couldn't have asked for a better opponent to feel their way into the tournament really, they played very well but Jorginho and the auld lads at the back might not find it so easy against teams with more energy and movement.

Shaping up to play Ukraine in the RO16 which they should win but not convinced they'll beat what will probably be Belgium in the QFs.

He's got Barella here.
Really not the same thing but the relentless energy is similar.

I put some money on Italy winning it because there is high chance they will be fresh when they face proper opposition. Fairly easy group stage and all games at home.

In theory Locatelli too, he usually helps win the ball a decent amount as well as being on the ball a lot. But I mean in terms of performance they didnt really do a lot, like Kante does, to protect him
