Why did Japan rest players for this game? Bizarre

Yep. They just need to beat Costa Rica last game and hope Spain beat Japan. Then it’ll come down to goal difference between all 3 of them. You’d imagine Germany can score a couple at least against C Rica which would see them through.
Huge huge lifeline for Germany if this result stands but that would be too risky as it's out of their hands and Spain could also rotate as a draw sees them win the group anyway so Germany must get a result against Spain to leave it in their hands regardless of Spain vs Japan's result.

Just not Japan's day, is it? Soft goal let in by the midget keeper and just can't get things going. They're far better when not making the game. Unfortunately at this level you should be able to prise open a defence.

I just don't understand that Japan lineup. The bench is stronger than the first XI ffs. Such a waste.

Why professional footballers try these extraordinarily tame passes int he box will always baffle me. Martial is our culprit for that one, he gets so many chances to shoot and is prone to just trickle it forward.

You're a striker, hit it hard ffs.

The lack of quality in the passing is so unlike Japan.

Does Japan know that beating Germany doesn't automatically qualify you? Terrible performance today.

Beautiful little passing triangles... on the halfway line in the 89th minute, losing 1-0.

Fecking Pep Guardiola would be telling them to lump it somewhere.

Yes of course. I think Germany will do everything they can to just take a draw tonight.

Bottle job from Japan. Beat a shite Costa Rica team and they would be certain to progress if Germany failed to beat Spain tonight.

People forget that Japan was getting battered by Germany until they scored the equalizer, they were lucky to only be losing 1-0, Germany should have been leading 3-0 before the japanese scored, but poor finishing by the germans let Japan alive.

Japan took advantage that the favoritism was all on Germany, now they were the favorites for this game and showed nothing.

Does head to head or goal difference come first? Never know in these things anymore. If it's goal difference Germany could get through with 3 points.

Seen more energy from Japan supporters rather than the team

I remember when Joel Campbell had a good World Cup 4 years ago and was linked with Arsenal I think. Proper flash in the pan.

Yet another horseshit first touch ends this Sunday League display for Japan, topped off by Sunday League goalkeeping for the goal.

Goal difference. Think Germany get through now unless Spain trounce them later.
