Within the comments section of David Ornstein's article today on Werner and Sancho in The Athletic. Someone asked him "If Upamecano leaves what do you think would be his most likely destination?" Ornstein replied "I think Man Utd are very interested. Bayern unlikely".

Dayot didn't even make the bench today. Can't find any news of an injury. Interesting.

RBL DoF Mintzlaff has basically given Upamecano a ultimatum, either sign a new contract or leave because in his words they can't afford to let him leave on a free according to Bild.

Mintzlaff told Bild - "One thing we can guarantee, we have a very clear understanding with him and his agent that we won't be letting him go for free. We cannot afford that as a club. So there are two options, extend or change"

Bild also report that Arsenal had a €60m bid turned down before the start of the season.

That's kind off shooting themselves in the foot. They can't ask teams for more money since they know Leipzeg don't want to let him go for free so they will have to sign him.

Would be an amazing signing though given that he will be cheap.

Well if he's available at the right price why not? We've been tracking him for a long time so we must know enough to say whether there's a space for him here. If Smalldini is off and someone will take Jones and Rojo off our hands then there should be space in theory.

If timed correctly in the window, can probably be picked up for about £25m by someone.

If we can get him and Sancho wouldn't our team be good enough to compete for the title?

..........................De Gea............................

AWB....Upamecano.....Maguire.......Shaw

..................Pogba..............Fred..............

Sancho................Bruno..............Rashford

.............................Martial............................

Subs - Romero Williams Lindelof Mctominay Mata Greenwood Ighalo

I believe this team can challenge for the title

According to reports he dicked us about with some very unrealistic demands.
He didn't had unrealistic demands but United had little chance to sign him because we weren't his parents first choices and he wanted to be in a dorm.

There was various reports circulating at the time and United didn't dick him around as the other poster insinuated.

The players agent basically said that the player and his family wasn't happy with the living arrangements and didn't want him to stay with a host family with only 6 visits a year from his parents. He wanted to have his own flat which was the reason for the move collapsing.

So According to his agent, United didn't fulfil his demands hence the move collapsing. And I personally don't believe the agent is telling the whole story here because I can't see why United would demand him to live with a host family and jeopardise the deal.

No one dick anyone around and he never asked for a flat that's the bs story that I knew you were going to mention. The demands that weren't fulfilled concerned his schooling which was a deal breaker for his mom while he didn't want to live with a family but preferred to be in dorm. Salzburg and Bayern provided both of these things and were the top choices, Salzburg won because Houllier was their DOF and the manager was a french speaker.

Edit: On the flat part, an intermediary offered a flat, they never asked for it.

He couldn't dick us about.

Thierry Martinez told So Foot: "An intermediary met with us, but between the project she presented us and what was actually going to happen.

"A flat was promised, but that changed to a host family with only six return trips for his parents.

Is Thierry bullshitting? @JPRouve

Are you reading properly? If you based it on this United would be in the wrong or at least the intermediary. And they didn't demand a flat, in fact no other clubs offered it and they didn't ask for it, what he has said himself though is that he didn't want to be in an host family and his parents weren't convinced by the schooling part.

Thierry Martinez quite simply said that the living arrangements was the reason the deal collapsed. A flat was promised which they were happy with then the club decided to change the living arrangement which was the deal breaker. And he's also quoted as saying it was him who didn't think it was right for the young teen at the time and not his parents. The full quotes are below. So not getting the flat was the deal breaker and everyone can read the full quotes below with link provided.

What the player said later is just PR because he was quite obviously close to signing for us and even agreed most things with the club via his agent.

"When you uproot a player at such a young age, that isn’t enough. I wanted Dayot to have a stable emotional balance off the pitch."

The bit about the flat was reported by the English Journos too, long before Thierry Martinez mentioned anything.

It's the same interview, it's not later. And he clearly states that the flat is what the intermediary presented and then when they went to Manchester the offer was different. At no point do they say that they were close to sign or that they themselves asked for anything special. In that same interview his mother says that his father wanted him to sign for Bayern and that she wanted him to sign for Sazlburg. It's in Sofoot n°163.

The only interesting thing about the United part is why the presentation from the intermediary and the club would be different?

Based on the evidence of nothing but this half of football, we should be all over him like a rash

Just the kind of defender we need. I would offer Liepzig Tuanzebe plus cash for him. German clubs like to sign english players these days as they have great resale value.
It can be a win win situation for both clubs.

Seriously impressive. We wasted 80m on Maguire and another 30 on Lindelof.

Who's looking for a new CB? City? They should be all over him.

First time watching him despite knowing his name for years, he's class off the basis of 59 minutes.
