That's actually an improvement. Many see Romero being able to replace De Gea based on couple of cup games.

I do agree with what you're saying about about needing clear upgrades in defence. Let's hope we get the ball rolling with the capture of AWB soon and see who else follows.

AWB along with a quality CB would transform our defense. This quality CB though, I'm not sure where are we going to dig him out.

People are underestimating how important a world class GK is for a top team. Like Karius and Liverpool never happened, or our struggles post Schmeichel.

It's gone past if he's good enough or not for me, same as pogba, if you want to stay, great, sign your contract, if you don't, hand in a transfer request and piss off. It's not like he isn't already earning enough to see out the rest of his life in luxury, shit or get off the pot Dave.

i can't embed anything yet but would just like to ask, DdG, has made some absolutely worldie saves, of that there is no doubt. How many of the other top GK's in the world, don't even move when a 30 yarder comes at them? Plus, how many times was he beaten when the ball bounces just at his feet? I am not saying he's expected to save every shot, but this last season or so he has missed fundamental saves or parried the ball to the opponent on so many occasions you do question whether he is a), on the decline or b), so unhappy he is forcing a move away?

If he doesn't wish to talk when being offered 350k, surely 400k wouldn't be enough. Question is, how much is enough to persuade him to stay? Maybe starting from 450k, to probably 500k, I guess,

That much which makes it for the 25% reduction in salary due to no Champions league football.

Let him leave and get Oblak. Tired of the constant obscurity he comes up with in the contract renewal times. 4 years ago we were in the exact same position & LVG showed who's the boss. We should only worry about players who wants to be here.

Why would anyone want a player to stay when he is asking for a ransom contract instead of staying put to get us back to the top is beyond belief. If he had any honour or guilt of shame, he would have sign it now and then after the disappointing season we had. Buffon went down to serieB with Juve and becoming a legend. He didn't stall for a new contract or ask for a move because he respect the shirt he is wearing.

I agree, it is not that he bailed us out this season. Much more, he is one of the reasons we have been shit. So if he does not want to sign a reasonable contract, let's sell him and build for the future

I'm really surprised this has gone quiet - expected it to be sorted out one way or the other very quickly. Maybe DDG realises he would be bored most weeks playing for PSG

I hope if he signs that his form is going to dramatically improve, or it'll be yet another Sanchez/Rooney on the books under performing.

He must stay, our only world class player since Fergie retired and the awful form last season doesn't change that.

He can't save our defence all the time and that's why we need to help him by buying actual defenders.

If he signs I will be happy but this is not a new signing and United can feck off if they try to spin it as such.

The entire ethos of our football needs to change. I love him but I think it's time.

I think De Gea made 4 errors leading to goals, which is a lot versus other keepers, but a small amount in real terms. It's not a great sample, take into account we've also been particularly bad.

I don't think you can compare De Gea to Rooney or Sanchez. I just don't think keepers decline in that way. De Gea could probably go on for over 10 more years so a 5 year contract is a tiny risk.

The biggest question is could we sell and replace with someone on smaller wages with better distribution and maybe overall better, e.g. Oblak. He is also younger and with release clause we could probably buy for the De Gea fee.

Either way, it just needs to be resolved, but not really fussed which way. Not selling at least saves 2 deals needing to be done

Sad thing is that it is not at all inconceivable that he is now on the decline. In which case on the goalkeeping front we are fecked either way.

I personally dont care about him staying or leaving, said long time ago, i was done with this wuss after fax gate. If true twitter post above, what pisses me of is decision to keep him and not sell, if he doesnt sign a new contract. That would be some Arsenal level feckery, God help us if we use their model.

Iker Casillas dropped off a cliff not much older than Dave. Dave is a reflex keeper, they certainly do tend to decline earlier. Dave looked great for 4/5 seasons, last season he never reached those heights, often not getting near shots he'd have previously saved.
Dave has generally been our player of the season since Fergie left, so he's not really affected by how the rest of the team performs. He's been a shell of the player he was since the world cup. It's a worry to be honest.

This actually feels more likely, unfortunately. At his best Dave was basically elastic, but everyone loses some of that as they approach 30.

What we should see is an improvement in understanding and helping his defence, owning his box, safe, good distribution. But the last 3 aspects have been going backwards over the last 12 months.

A good Dave is still better than 95% of keepers out there, but just resigning him doesn't mean we're getting great Dave again.

He did need an arm round the shoulder after the world cup. As it was he got the same crap defence in front of him and a moaning Mourinho behind him.
He was superb for many portions of last season. He is still one the top top goalkeepers in the world. If he signs we should be mightily relieved, especially considering the lack of progress on new signings.

Sell him already if he's not signing a new contract or wants crazy money. Our club has trully lost it's compass. Sometimes it feals like we are being ran by rival fans. Silly decision after another.

Yeah, both wants out but the difference is De Gea doesn't have the balls to say or even imply it. It was the same last time in 2015. He's the nice guy in front of the cameras but holding club to ransom behind the closed doors. You either want to stay or not. If not, don't make excuses and move on ASAP.

PersonallyI think it is madness to invest that kind of money in DDG. It just starts a landslide of players who think they are underpaid.

350k for a keeper is preposterous. Especially for one who looks like he's declining.

In theory I get the idea that a reflex keeper might decline quickly with age but how many of De Gea's mistakes last year actually had anything to do with his reflexes? As I remember it they were mistakes of concentration and confidence.

Plus poor though his season was, he still showed his customary sharp reflexes at various points across the year.

The sharp decline theory may well eventually prove to be true but I don't think that's where DDG is at right now. Last season's problems were down to his mind rather than his body.

This is one of the most stupid things I’ve read on here. Doesn’t have the balls to chat shit publicly about “new challenges” while being under contract here? Yeah what a great guy Pogba is compared to De Gea sho stuck through all the mess and never went public.

By the logic of “if Alexis is on 500k pw...” then 350k pw to De Gea is fair.
    Otherwise, it is absolute madness.
