Did we deserve a penalty in that game?

Never saw anyone look more guilty than Zouma after his tackle on Ronaldo but Atkinson of course knows better.

Worst is this will be forgotten because we won at the end. Had they scored the pen we would be discussing this in totally different mood and language.

That pissed me off too. A. It's not true. B. A very similar foul was given against Pogba 10 minutes earlier.
Why was he not even asked to take a look at VAR but he was for the handball?

If we hadn't got 3 points after those decisions I'd have been fecking fuming. I'd love to hear the refs reasoning behind those decisons.

Many will disagree, but I genuinely believe Ronaldo should have had a penalty called for him during the midweek game against Young Boys.

2 penalties last season. This season nothing. Absolute shambles.

Not really.

The contact is supposed to be enough for the player to go down in the way they did. I can clearly see the slap on the back and obviously that isn't going to make Ronaldo's legs go from under him like that, so it's irrelevant to the penalty call.

The only thing the penalty can be given for is the contact with the legs, because that's the only thing that happened that might have justified Ronaldo going down as he did. If he was just striding forward and Zouma tackled him, that's a penalty. However, if Ronaldo was already going to ground before there was any contact then obviously it becomes more difficult to argue the contact caused that reaction.

I'm just finding it hard to see whether he started going down before or after the contact with the legs.
I always find this interesting. When a defender is not attempting to play the ball but doing something to disturb an attackers thinking and control of the situation. If im running and you slap my arm, yeah I wont fall cos of it but its going to disturb me and therefore gaining you an advantage.

It’s insane. People say Ronaldo was looking for it and maybe so but the defender still committed the foul. Seeing a tackle coming doesn’t mean it isn’t a foul

That is one of the worst non-penalties I've seen. Ronaldo has him beat and he's in, zero reason to go down while Coufal's leg is stretched is far as it can be and trips him.

The Zouma one is also a penalty but it falls into that category where the player has knocked the ball too far ahead so it gives cowardly refs (Atkinson being the poster boy) an out.

THIS one I think is every bit as stone wall as the Zouma one.

He’s thrown a leg out across the player and got nothing on the ball, nothing, just puts his leg across Ronaldo’s and apparently some are saying this could be a ‘soft’ one? Nah, that is a penalty any way you look at it.

I almost couldn't celebrate the win as I was still angry about this
Same here. It was such an injustice, it almost ruined the relief at the let off late on. As it shouldn't have mattered if that was given.

Ole is right to flag Ronaldo not getting pens.

It's one thing all this let more stuff go thing, but not at the expense of the actual rules

What makes this worse is that he gave a goal kick so the ref is saying Zouma never got the ball! It’s either a pen or a corner, in no universe is it a goal kick

He goes down because Zouma takes out his left foot. It’s in the vid at the top of the page

He probably just dismissed it as a coming together.

The first one wasn't, second was 50/50 a pen and the last one blatant for me.
Each to their own but if the third one is blatant so is the first one imo. The last one Ronnie has lost the ball, in the first one he’s in on goal and has no reason to go down.

Very selective of the image, he pulled the leg back quickly after that still, then you see Ronaldo slightly change running direction to make sure contact. No penalty!

Second one at the end was a penalty.

Still fuming that we did not get at least one penalty. Where the feck was VAR as well.

Could easily have dropped points.

First one was softest for me as I thought he was looking for it as the chance slipped away.
We can agree the third one was frankly bizarre.

2 fouls, 2 penalties. Don’t care how soft they might be. The second isn’t even soft! I’m fuming!
This! That last one before they got theirs was a ridiculous decision and took VAR 5 seconds to dismiss. Shocking all round. I was fuming when they got theirs! Praise DDG!

Both teams should have had two each. We got none, they got one. PL's referees are the worst in the world. Or at the very least in the big leagues around the world. Only one i can stand is the female assistan referee i cant rememeber the name of.. Never seen her make a mistake.

I think we can all see them slightly differently but can agree to get none of those pens was a joke from Atkinson and VAR.

Quite a few shouts and for me surely the last one on Ronaldo was a clear one? And even the Coufal on Ronaldo is something I've seen given more often than not.
100% should have had minimum 2 if this is a thing where Ronaldo will not ever be given a penalty due to who he is it is ludicrous, pathetic and a joke. I hope the club seriously puts a complaint about the officials and the referee as if this continues it just gives opposition a reason to try and hurt Cristiano as they will know they can get away with it. Pathetic.

Agree, I think there was a penalty in both games, the last one with Zouma was a pen I thought, and the push in the back on Tuesday was a well imo.

Pretty sure VAR checked all of them. As others said, West Ham probably felt they should've had the AWB one too.

Only good thing was they didn't give Ronaldo's goal offside for his arm being stuck out.
Your arm cannot be offside

Chapter 4 in the Martin Atko manual: 'Ignore A Penalty When You Have Just Given A Foul For An Identical Offence'.

Except to be fair it wasn't quite identical: Zouma did a Shefki Kuqi dive and won a free kick, whereas in the later instance, Zouma actually did make contact with Cristiano and got off scot free, despite looking as guilty as hell.

Over the years he has given so many dodgy decision against us it's hard not to believe that the guy's biased.

It's like saying Joe Frazier nose butted the hand of George Foreman. Don't they see that most people think they are idiots when they say such things?

Rest of them were 50 50 but last one was 100%. It's clear biss against Ronaldo that it wasn't given.

The third one is indisputable.
That one was quite literally - and it is an overused word but it does apply here - unbelievable. I couldn't actually believe that a supposedly trained and qualified referee looked at that in the VAR room and said 'nah, that's not a penalty'. Were they having a coffe break? Was he busy wanking to PornHub? What happened?

First one no way. Second one, I thought so live, but after the replay, it really did seem that Ronaldo initiated the contact to me and then did a pretty good dive. Third one was stonewall pen, but pretty sure the ref thought Ronaldo was play acting too much on the first two which cost him the third. Terrible officiating.

Agreed.
