These sort of signings are a waste of time.

Unless they are a generational talent then they are better taking the steps up to the top level gradually.

We've seen it before with the likes of Pellistri that it's not good for their development to go to a club that they are nowhere near ready to play for.

I agree we should be looking at what Madrid do with the likes of Mastatouno. Or Chelsea with Estavao. This likes of Diego is ready for senior football but not for Manchester United, but at a lower level so keeping him in the u21 doesn't help his development.

FFS he's 17, such a bunch of drama queens. What a massive shock that he's not ready for the first team yet. Bit of time in the U21s, bit of training with the first team, adapt to the new country and then he'll probably need a good loan. But that's fine because he has shit loads of time. The problem with Pellistri was that we organised or allowed him to go on some terrible loans, and he probably wasn't good enough in the first place. But we didn't lose loads of money on him so who cares.

But then when we miss out on someone like Caicedo people whine and say why don't we make these types of signings before they go to developmental clubs and cost 100 million. These cheap international talents are a drop in the bucket for us. If we hit on even one it's a massive boost. I'd prefer them to go out on loan early on usually, but Leon has only just turned 18.

Should let Malacia gone when we had the chance last week if we could use him. Its 9 weeks until Dorgu is back (if Shaw gets injured). I would take my chances with him. Is he that bad?

Diego Leone is barely coping with Under-21 football. He should be kept away from the senior team until next season at the earliest.

I like how the instant conclusion, because he's not considered for a called up to the senior side at the present time, is that he must be rubbish.

I like how the instant conclusion, because people are saying that he is not ready for the 1st team YET, is that they are saying he is rubbish.

I also like how the instant conclusion, because people say he is not ready, is that they are saying that because he was not called to the 1st team. Not that those people have watched all the televised Under-21 games and watched clips of the other games this season.

Sir Alex said that you need to give young players a chance because sometimes they surprise you. I completely understand the idea that if someone isnt standing out for the u21s then you dont need to put them in the team, because other players feel closer to being ready. Its totally sensible. But this is an oppertunity because of injuries and a lack of good cover. And like Sir Alex said sometimes young players can surprise you. The truth is it doesnt matter if a player looks bad in the u18s and u21s if they take their chance in the first team. If they play well the first game they're given its all forgotten and they're given more oppertunities. If they do well they continue getting them.

A good example is Ayden Heaven. When United played against Arsenal u18s and u21s I never thought he looked impressive. When Hojlund played against him in a preseason friendly Hojlund easily held him off to score against Arsenal. But then we signed him on a free. He then played for the u21s for 1 game and I honestly thought he looked worse than Munro and Kukonki who both played a part in that game iirc. But then when we had a lack of options in the first team he got a chance to play at CB. And he went straight in and looked good enough to play in the first team in the premier league. So all the rest from the past didnt matter anymore because he did well for a young player in the first team.

Thats why I'd be in favour of giving someone like Leon a chance at least as a sub. They might take the oppertunity and then suddenly you have a much more valuable player on your hands. No chances mean no possibility to be surprised.
