Diego León

Looks very raw on highlight reels

But think physical attributes are so big in modern football that he still has a chance

I think he can do it but it will only happen if the manager allows it. He could be one of our best players in a couple of preseason matches but the manager has to then say he wants to keep him in the first team squad., not loan him and select him in a premier league match.

For me his speed in a wingback position is worth trying to fast track him and see how he does against adults in a competitive setting

The sort of quote from someone destined to never play a minute of first-team football here

Hopefully not.

That's the right attitude, you've gotta be fearless and determined. Based on what he's shown it seems a bit delusional, so hopefully he manages adversity well, but still..

7% of Americans in a survey said that they reckon they can beat a grizzly bear. I think Diego has better chance at making it at United than that.

He's like opposite to Sancho. Wants to actually be here, and not to go on loan.

Wow, what a feckin concept that is.

Admire the confidence, hopefully he can shine on pre season and give Amorim something to think about. Won’t take much to improve on Dorgu from an attacking point of view.

One thing being confident, another thing being nuts.
I hope he is right and he is our Gareth Bale in the making.

The sort of statement that comes back to bite you on the arse.

The lad has no idea what pre-season will be like at United so IMHO he should remain humble not cocky. He looks strong for his age but he’s entering a whole new world.

Last time someone showed that level of confidence was Onana with 'not scared of Haaland' interview and look how thst turned out.

In fairness to him - he said “I don’t have that mindset (referring to everyone thinking he’ll go out on loan) - my mindset is to kill it in preseason and then be in the team within 1 or two games” (he also said he wants to succeed)

He didn’t frame it as what was going to happen but rather what is mindset is/what he wants to make happen

I don’t think there’s much wrong with that - at the very least it’s a good attitude to have

Sounds plausible....

"Sir Alex Ferguson once famously told Harry Redknapp he should just stop playing Gareth Bale. Maybe there was some mischief in the remark that Redknapp ignored, but the Welshman was on a 24-game winless streak at the start of his Tottenham Hotspur career that had earned him the reputation of being an unlucky charm."

He's up against Dorgu, so it's not an impossible task.
Let them both fight for it.

I've questioned his abilities on here but have to say I love this attitude. He's not hedging his bets to save face later on so hope he gives it a really good shot as there's a place to be nailed down at left back with Shaw's decline and Dorgu's mixed start.

Love this — as black and white as it comes. Basically telling the young lad, ‘This is your chance, kid — grab it with both hands.’ I admire any 17 or 18-year-old making the jump from South America to United and speaking so openly, like he has. Let’s hope his confidence translates to the football pitch — there’s a real opportunity for him to make that left-back spot his own.

I think this dude could peak like a Heinze type for us, hopefully much less of an arsehole. He was great at the start. He made the physical stuff look effortless and always commanded his area.

I really can't see him breaking into the team next season with Shaw and Dorgu ahead of him unless shaw goes straight to LCB no questions. Surely this is Shaws last season? In that case I'd be letting León go while we can afford to let him get the maximum minutes somewhere else more difficult than Paraguay

I saw him play in a match back in April I think, as I was with a group of Paraguayans. Total fluke that his team was playing in the background, but it piqued my interest when I saw him starting. Unfortunately the first thing I saw was him try to dribble past someone and he stumbled and fell flat on his face. It didn't get much better from there. After a while I stopped watching because he looked like complete rubbish, and I realised this was going to make me judge him off one game which probably wasn't fair.

Instead I am sharing my one game experience with a wider audience, so the masses can judge him unfairly instead.

Hope the lad turns out to be a great signing for us, but I wouldn't expect anything from him this season at all. He's 18, he'll go out on loan I am sure.
