Nightmare season. Last season 9/10 he would show a player the outside and comfortably get the better of them no matter the opposition. Last few games, he has been poor. Looks shot of confidence and probably knackered with the amount of games he's been involved with. Not an excuse but I'm glad he was subbed off. Maybe he needs a reset. Hopefully he won't be involved much for Portugal during the international games.

Luckily Ndidi fluffed his chance, he’s been unusually poor in both directions this season, after being one of our better performers the past season.

I think he's mentally tired, he's played virtually every game in the last year, barely had a break in the summer, he needs a rest, without a LB though it's hard to see where he'll get one

We badly need a left back so

1) We can have an actual LB playing at LB
2) We can play Mazraoui at RB and stick Dalot on the bench.

Dalot has been fecking awful all season. Maybe the worst player of the season so far.

Dalot looked knackered midweek against PAOK. I'm glad Van Nistelrooy had the stones to actually hook him today though. You can talk about players taking accountability until the cows come home but it doesn't mean anything until the manager takes action. Dalot has been dining out on being one of the better players in a terrible team last season, he hasn't really got near the standards this season.

I'm interested to see how he gets on under the new manager because Mazraoui has been far better than him in the first few weeks of this season. If it ends up being a direct choice between the two, Dalot should really be getting dropped.

He's just lost some form, nothing crazy. Pretty confident in saying he'll be a key player for Amorim whether it's at RWB or LWB (where he played a full season for Milan while on loan).

He does switch off too often. Its dissappointing. Still a good player but he needs to do better staying focused

It will be interesting to see if Amorim sticks with him or switches to another left back option.

Needs a few games on the bench to focus his mind.

Hopefully 1 of our left backs can make an appearance to allow that to happen.

Neither him nor Mazraoui should be the left back option long term. Both are better on the right.

It's madness that the club has 4 players that can play LB and none of them are good enough to be a long term starter in that position. But I suppose with Amorim playing 343, one of the more attack minded players will probably play there?

He had a good/very good season last year, which looked better becaurse everyone else was so shit.. Many in here got carried away or (as usual) overrate our players to a degree that they look world class, so now where he has a bad season it looks even worse.. Dalot was never going to be good enough for a team like United, like a few others in our current team.. He should be no more than a squad player

He's been shocking this season. Badly needs a spell out of the team just to get a break if nothing else. Even without a LB available, I'd almost move Martinez there for a few games and Mazraoui to RB. Or Lindelof to RB and Mazraoui to LB, for a few games at least. Just to get Dalot out of the team for a few weeks.

However, with Amorim coming in and presumably reverting to a back 3 with wing backs, I don't see how Dalot would be dropped. Lindelof and Martinez could probably do a job at full back for a few games, but not at wing back, where our only realistic options appear to be Dalot and Maz (unless he tries to convert Antony to a LWB!)

I think he needs a break to reset and refocus. The amount of minutes he has played over the last 18 months is insane. With only two full backs in the entire team it seems unlikely he will get it, but maybe in this new coach's presumed system other players can help take the load off.

He seems to favour one attacking WB and at Sporting they were basically wingers. Wouldn’t be surprised if Garnacho is one of them.

Garnacho is one of our biggest goal threats. I doubt we move him futher from goal.

If we start with say a zirkzee then I can see him being our player to stretch the opposition as an inside forward. But the way sporting have played is their wing backs are extremely high up the pitch. They probably get up and down the pitch as much as Garnacho does anyway.

Not sure what's going on with him this season.

Maybe it's just tiredness (physical, mental or both), as some of the basics of his game have been really off. His workrate seems to have dropped off quite a bit and he doesn't have the urgency to get back and put in the last man tackles that saved our arses countless times last season, and there's even been quite a few times recently where he doesn't look anywhere near as fast as he normally does. Hmm, actually that makes me wonder if he's carrying a bit of an injury. Haven't heard anything about one though. He really doesn't seem the type to willingly become lazy.

He's played a million games in a row for us.

As usual he's typically been hated by a section of the United fanbase since becoming a regular here so he won't get credit when he's playing great (last season it was like pulling teeth trying to get people to compliment him here) and now that he's had a few poor games he's "never good enough".

Side note: there's a part of me that would like to see Amorim convert him into a DM here. He's not going to give enough output attacking wise to be a true wingback, but part of me thinks he'd make a great DM with his mobility/two footedness/ ball carrying/defensive ability. Would be an interesting experiment because I've never thought the way he sees the game and his best traits suited being a standard fullback.

he’ll not be great anywhere on the pitch if he’s needed to do defensive duties. He always has at least one major brain fart each game in him even when playing well.

As a pure DM he won't need to balance defensive vs attacking duties, in games where he just defends as a fullback he's generally fine, he gets caught out when he has to combine attacking and defending

Been really disappointing this season. Hope the new manager is the kick up the ass he needs to get his shit together and return to form. Maz has been the superior fullback and that must be mentally tough for the players player of the year last year.

I mean this just isn't really true though is it? It's a cliche that constantly gets used among United fans but if any player, much less our player of the year last season, had "one major brain fart" every game he played in as a defender he wouldn't even be playing anymore because he'd be a liability and constantly conceding goals.

Form has definately dropped recently but a few things to blame in my eyes.

1) playing every single game in this calender year for the club aswell as being away at a summer tournament and with Portugal every international break. Bound to be knackered physically and mentally.
2) the amount of running we ask him to do. As our quickest defender having to be last man back to cover those around him. Often looking him to be be on the end of Onanas goalkicks at the other end, and inverting in to midfield to give us legs in midfield during ETH last couple months. We were definately asking too much from him in what was a tactical clusterfeck.
3) constantly switching between left back and right back - he's much poorer on the left so it would be good if we can keep him right side.
4) the west ham miss - Confidence has clearly taken a knock after that
5) speculation but maybe a bit of complacency has set in given he's been guaranteed to start for atleast 12 months now when he's been the only fit fullback for large parts. New manager and possibly left backs returning might get him going again.

Very confident he'll be a key player under Amorim. At RWB he could focus more on attacking and at RCB as a possibility could focus more on defending (like Walker does for City). Think he's capable of doing either with success. Probably the fittest player in the squad and one of the few capable of providing the running power and intensity Amorim will ask of the squad.

fecking useless, hopfully thats all amorim needs to see before dropping the useless cnut for good

He was awful today. Needs some time on the bench to sort himself out. Barely helped out Shaw and kept on missing some really easy passes. Provided almost no forward thrust as well, once it was clear that Shaw could handle Hutchinson 1v1 he should've been raiding forward instead of standing aimless by the touch line.

Had some defensive blocks.

Offensively... the less said the better.

Literally killed every attack on the left hand side the 2nd half, just kept passing it back.

Strange game. Gave the winger a bit too much space for the first 15 minutes or so, but was good on the ball for the first half (the rest of the defence would basically just pass it sideways until it got to Dalot and he'd be the one who'd play it forward). Then in the second half he it felt like he utterly disappeared from the match and barely got involved.

I’ve no doubt he’s a good pro and that he works hard but after all these years here, I still don’t think he’s any good.

Very difficult to transition our ball through Dalot on our left side, doesn’t help with him not being left footed, serious issue that needs to be addressed.
