Dalot looks like he's lost a fair bit of weight.

He said this in the summer so it's probably deliberate:

"When you're playing with 3 [at the back] the job of the wide players is suddenly different. There's less focus on physical duels. You have to be almost an attacker with dribbling, quick cuts, invention."

He better not be taking Amad's spot. He's an absolutely bang average footballer. With Mbuemo now in, Amad is left with the RWB as the only spot for him in the team.
There's still RAM for Amad. You don't know how Mbeumo will turn out. I believe Dalot will be first choice RWB at some point next season.

Remember that time he was so awful that we loaned him out and still couldn't actually sell him?

That was a good sign imo.

Simply doesn't have elite level decision making, despite wonderful natural talents and fitness.

Absolutely atrocious for the first 12 minutes or so where it seemed he couldn't do a single thing right. After that he improved quite a bit; didn't bring much to the attack directly but was (along with Yoro) the main one in playing out from the back. His forward passes through the lines into central areas regularly got us on the front foot and in position to attack.

Still a bit hard to get over just how incredibly bad he was at the start of the match though...

I have only seen highlights from the last two games, but he has looked all over the place defensively in them.

There was one time in this game where I thought he gave his man too much space and allowed him to get into a dangerous position with the ball, and also another time (can't remember if it was against Bournemouth or West Ham) where he was lazy getting back. They were the only times I personally noticed, but there may have been others I didn't pick up on. Bear in mind that as a wingback (and this goes for all our wingbacks) if he's pushed up in an attacking position and the opposition win the ball and pass it quickly up the field, he's not going to be able to get back in time to defend the first wave of the attack. They still have to get back to defend the second wave, but it's up to the CB's and CM to stop or at least slow the first attacking movement.

If he is our starting RWB we are in trouble, again. I don't know how this guy keeps getting chances at this club.

He is the best argument for Amad at RWB you are going to see. I think with Lindelof finally gone he can now assume the mantle of most pointless player at the club and I have little doubt he will ever leave unless we let his contract run out like we did with Victor.

However did he end up pretty much our best player a couple of seasons ago?

Was that some kind of fever dream?
Because he played consistently well and never missed a game. He was playing RB though, and suited that in the traditional sense more so than he suits WB. He had to play LB a lot as well at one point, and his form slowly degraded

We should've really pushed for a sale when Real Madrid came looking at him. He's been really really poor for some time now, on either flank.

Being the best player at the club a couple of seasons ago shows how far United have fallen. 5/10 player.

Real was interested for 30m in his bests season, 2y ago iirc. It sounded too little for us that time. I think hiscv is decent, he can still drive interest and be sold for 20m+.

Unfortunately for Diogo WB is not his best position. He's simply too limited as a WB, just about okay for fullback. But definitely not good enough for a wingback. Weird because Dorgu looks better now already even though he's so raw. Patrick Dorgu can cross with both feet and is also decent dribbler. Dalot is just erratic passer and crosser who needs to play on the right in the back4. Perhaps he can reinvent himself as Shaw but on the right side of the CB trio. Maz should be preferred there though.

He was playing as a RB for starters.

I think he’s a good player that has played a pretty serious amount of minutes and isn’t suited to WB (neither is Mazraoui). In a 4ATB formation I think he’s a good option.

As @Poborsky's hair says, maybe RCB could work for him.

Looked rough against Bournemouth. Could be a testing season for him individually if he doesn't start/get games much and irons out inconsistencies in his game. I'd like to see him at RCB as his athleticism, ball carrying and press resistance would be useful there.

That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen imo

He’s far too sloppy defensively and with his passing to trust there. He’d be an absolute liability.

Another player we should have sold seasons ago

Yeah agreee. I was really hoping we’d move him on this summer and bring in a new WB. He’s at a good age to sell and would have commanded a decent enough fee. I guess we’ll have to suffer his brain farts for another while yet.

And he will not improve. We know he is mediocre at best

He is a high five, hit the first man with his crosses and get caught out at the back post merchant. Worst player at the club imo.

I really hope he only plays in cup games. Amad should start RWB without a shadow of a doubt. The amount of simple mistakes he makes is criminal.

He had me screaming at the TV the other day. So fecking frustrating to watch.

If we get to Europe think he will be gone next season. He just doesnt fit the fast moving wing back profile that Amorim is looking for. Amad is our starting RWB next season.

Like Mount seems to be a teachers favorite so lets see. But he makes ones blood boil no doubt

He's clearly a good lad and the club seems to love him but I simply don't see a top-level footballer there. Further, he's so negative with his passing, and seems to believe his new role is breaking the line for long balls.

Which would be cool if he wasn't the worst final third decision maker in the squad. Baffling.

Our only hope this season is for Kamason or Mantato to break through and then get ahead of him in the pecking order. Anyway he's second choice now with Mbeumo's arrival.
