Nah, I don't think so. Look at it - when the move starts, out wide a player starts a run down the flank while the player in front of Dalot starts to dribble, Hannibal also in the mix but strangely uninvolved. Casemiro was the closest but not close enough so Dalot could take care of the wide run. And when Casemiro finally gets there and the move seems to die, the Brazilian fecks it up again by sleeping at the run of the player directly in front of him.

They were close and neither of them did anything though, either track the runner or try to get to the player on the ball. Shocking from both doing nothing while a simple pass and run takes them out of the game and leads to a goal.

Haha....

But yeh agree. The wide forward decisions from Fletch seemed very odd initially. I was frustrated regarding both flanks, but to be fair to Dorgu, I though he looked very good, and the left footed wide left approach actually seemed to really suit seskos movement. Quick balls in before the defence set.

But Cunha just looked lost on the right.

It might have just been the fact that Dorgu was basically playing that role, but I thought Shaw also looked pretty leggy to me in terms of getting up and down.

Maybe the best setup you end up with long term is Dorgu playing in the Valencia style FB role on the left overlapping Cunha.

With Maz doing the same for Amad or Mbuemo on the right.

Overall, it wasn't quite the bog standard square pegs, square holes 4231 approach I was hoping for. But 30 shots. 10 on target. And the lowest xG against all season.

Im chalking that up as a moderate success for the first attempt, a game that we win 99 times out of 100, but the footballing gods just weren't going to allow it unfortunately.
Maz is also not the greatest when it comes to overlapping. Cunha would definitely benefit from somebody who is overlapping but today, it looked as if he was taking up very similar positions as Fernandes. Until a certain point at least. It was pretty odd. Who knows, maybe Fletcher wanted a good runner and a mediocre runner on each side - Dorgo and Shaw and Cunha and Dalot.

Well yeah, I mean it was Burnley  that definitely helped at least as much as the formation switch. I think it will take 4 or 5 games to actually see something, considering that the next 3 games have two against really difficult opponents.

I hope we sell him while he has some slight respect on his name. The reality is we will either give him a new contract or lose him for nothing in a couple of years and we lose any and all book value in him. He is not good enough. No consistency whatsoever. Irratates me how many chances he gets on the end of too as its guaranteed to be wasted.

He is such a bad footballer it's sad. Can't understand why he gets picked by every single manager that comes here? Probably the best trainer ever?

Dalot still being in the squad after all this time perfectly exemplifies our mediocrity. He’s simply not good enough. He’s the type of player we need to move on if we truly want to improve.

I’d love to know what position he thinks he’s playing. I’ve never seen a full back play the way he does. Most of the first half was him stood still on the touchline about fifty yards away from the centre back on the ball providing no passing option whatsoever.

Dalot winning player of the year reminded me of the time I won the award for being the tallest in my class… at kindergarten

The time to sell was years ago. He has not improved at all or cut out his flaws. Just terrible

In the name of f**k there must be a better right back out there we can get?!

Dalot is lucky that there are so many other positions in the team we need to upgrade on that he might be spared the chopping block for the time being.

Oddly better on the left, but yeah, nowhere good enough for a top 4 team

Should be first to go in the summer. Really hope Maz comes back soon and stays fit till the end of the season.

Did the square root of feck all yesterday. Such a nothing player, can't wait to have Maz back on the RB spot!

I think he was playing the whole flank alone yesterday?
So it is expected to be poor. If you are not peak Thuram, it is like impossible .

He's like some of the players which are in every squad. Bang average player who manage to convince manager on the training ground that he works hard and never gets hooked because he's a "safe option". Seriously feck this shit. Let's be more brave.

The guy kills so much momentum with his clumsy ball control and lack of composure and slow thinking, so painful to watch.

Mazroui should be back, and even rotate with Dorgu on the right and Dalot hopefully sold in the summer.

I understand the clamour to sell him but I don't think it woud be a wise decision.. for the next few years anyway.

Firstly, his availability is a big plus, he's rarely injured and can cover two positions to a relatively decent/average level (obviously some will disagree here). I don't think he's as bad as people make out but I also don't think he should ever be first choice when people are fit but when we are (hopefully) competing on multiple fronts he's a very good option to cover either RB or LB. He seems a good pro who wouldn't kick up a fuss by being second choice, and he'd still get plenty of minutes.

There is no point having a player who can cover RB, and then when he's called upon because of injuries or suspensions, he's injured himself. That's happened a lot down the years with United.

Oddly better on the left, but yeah, nowhere good enough for a top 4 team

I think this too. Oddly, I think it's because he's less comfortable there and therefore less likely to switch off.

I don't think yesterday in isolation is worth judging him on, given Cunha offered very little help. But his constant mistakes are getting tiresome and it's clear as day we'll never get anywhere with him as first choice. He's giving away goalscoring chances every single game.

Can he please leave the club. I dislike him like he is a Liverpool player. I just can't stand him at all

Brainless, hopeless, talentless. Same story every season.

Even for his levels, that was probably his worst ever performance. That was atrocious.

His time has to be up. There was a good counter attack there after Seskos goal and he just fecked it up big time.

Get him the feck out of this club. He symbolizes the decline of recent years.

How have we moved away from wing backs, yet this guy is fecking on the end of all our best chances.

Brainless footballer. Can't believe how his contract is still not up.

Send him to the U21s for a bit. It's like he did everything possible to make sure we don't win, he failed about 90% of his attempted actions today. Passes, dribbles, tackles.... it was a horror show.. Mazraoui can't come back soon enough, at least he keeps it tight at the back.
