Absolute dreck. Mazraoui easily is the first choice there when he is back.
Nah, I don't think so. Look at it - when the move starts, out wide a player starts a run down the flank while the player in front of Dalot starts to dribble, Hannibal also in the mix but strangely uninvolved. Casemiro was the closest but not close enough so Dalot could take care of the wide run. And when Casemiro finally gets there and the move seems to die, the Brazilian fecks it up again by sleeping at the run of the player directly in front of him.
Maz is also not the greatest when it comes to overlapping. Cunha would definitely benefit from somebody who is overlapping but today, it looked as if he was taking up very similar positions as Fernandes. Until a certain point at least. It was pretty odd. Who knows, maybe Fletcher wanted a good runner and a mediocre runner on each side - Dorgo and Shaw and Cunha and Dalot.Haha....
But yeh agree. The wide forward decisions from Fletch seemed very odd initially. I was frustrated regarding both flanks, but to be fair to Dorgu, I though he looked very good, and the left footed wide left approach actually seemed to really suit seskos movement. Quick balls in before the defence set.
But Cunha just looked lost on the right.
It might have just been the fact that Dorgu was basically playing that role, but I thought Shaw also looked pretty leggy to me in terms of getting up and down.
Maybe the best setup you end up with long term is Dorgu playing in the Valencia style FB role on the left overlapping Cunha.
With Maz doing the same for Amad or Mbuemo on the right.
Overall, it wasn't quite the bog standard square pegs, square holes 4231 approach I was hoping for. But 30 shots. 10 on target. And the lowest xG against all season.
Im chalking that up as a moderate success for the first attempt, a game that we win 99 times out of 100, but the footballing gods just weren't going to allow it unfortunately.
that definitely helped at least as much as the formation switch. I think it will take 4 or 5 games to actually see something, considering that the next 3 games have two against really difficult opponents.Oddly better on the left, but yeah, nowhere good enough for a top 4 team
Enough with Dalot, been here for like 6 years and has not improved one bit. We should look to move him on asap
Gently rocking in the corner muttering One day he will be gone, one day he will be goneOne day he will be gone, and we must endure until that day
