He’s fine defending in a back 4, not many wingers get the better of him regularly as he has good pace and is still quick enough of the mark, but he shouldn’t ever pass is across the 18 yard box as he’s nowhere near accurate enough to do that or bother going past the half way line. His club foot just balloons any pass or cross automatically.

Potential career ending tackle aside he was pretty good, best I've seen from him in a long long time.

Never a red card. Not a dangerous not reckless tackle, no force behind it whatsoever. It's ridiculous that people think any time you show studs it's a red.

Recovered well after a couple of glaring errors. He's quite good when he's not making stupid decisions
Plus got the ball.

Still lucky though, easily could go the other way.

Yeha I genuinely did not even think for a second it was a red. There was very little force behind it at all. And was more a scrape: but I should know that these days if you’re foot is near an opponents knee regardless of context there’ll be people out there claiming it’s a red.

Maz plays in the AFCON final tomorrow, and has had a great tournament albeit at left back. He should stroll into the starting XI against Arsenal and then stay there. Give me £20m for Dalot in the summer and let us be rid of him. He’s shite.

£10m should be enough to do a deal.

Dalot being Dalot

Last game against Brighton, he had some fantastic infield passes and off the ball movement to create two (!) 1 vs 1s against Steele, which he of course missed. However, he was terrible defensively, play some poor passes and was absolutely passive getting square on in his 1 vs 1 going backwards.

Today, he was lucky it was not a red, played some poor passes but also had some good passes and was pretty switched on defensively against Doku for the whole match and on that right side. At this point, it is based on nothing but hope but for his sake I really, er, hope under Carrick he can rekindle that 22-23 form.

He plays a bit like a really talented 18 year old, does some great stuff and then has moments of madness. Yet he’s a senior player. I still think he’s good enough to give competition and fight with Max this season. He’s handy in the air defensively and seemingly always fit. Much of our issues I place at Amorim’s door, I think we’ll see Dalot get back to his more consistent self from a couple of seasons ago.

Why are we capitalizing RED?!
Probably read too many DONALD TRUMP tweets.

For what it's worth, I agree it should've been a RED. Didn't Xavi Simons just get a RED for something similar on Van Dick recently? If it'd been a City player doing that on one of our players, most of the Caf would complain about Taylor being CORRUPT for only giving a YELLOW.

I must admit that after that horrible attempt at passing to Amad early in the first half, I wanted to sell him at the break. But he actually had a pretty solid game, especially defensively, keeping their left side totally unproductive throughout the entire match.

Something similar?

Studding a player down his calf/ankle when ball is over a yard away is not similar to a player flicking his foot up to where the ball was and Doku (played really well today) just moving it to the side and getting a nanosecond of foot on his knee.

Whether we like rules or not… one went for the ball, one didn’t. One was a split second while ball changed position, one was nowhere near attempting to play the ball. One seemed predetermined, one wasn’t.

And for what it’s worth, I don’t like Dalot and thought his first half was dreadful, but rules say that’s a yellow.

He was his usual self really, good energy but careless on the ball. We mitigated that by barely having possession, and he was fairly dogged in defence.

Despite the win, we can and should be doing much better at full back. He should be a backup at most.

In my opinion it should've been a red and if it'd been the other way around, I'd be quite pissed.

I'm not complaining that Dalot got away with it and I'm also not saying that it was one of the clearest reds ever.

A lot of people on here disagree, and that's completely fair.

If Carrick gets this team playing better tactically and positionally, Dalot is capable of contributing with his athleticism and all around attributes...as long as he cuts out the mistakes.

Just saw this posted in the Mainoo's thread. The last bit of play is what makes Dalot an interesting player profile. Not many full backs are going into the middle of the park, doing a stutter step half turn, playing a one-two and driving into the box from there. A lot of the good work he did during that POTY season was inverting and being progressive through the lines. Anyways I won't speak/hope too much, been down this road too many times unfortunately.

There was also that time just dig out an amazing left footed pass under pressure when we were on the attack and it got applause. He’s really good most of the time but the brain farts are usually spectacular

Getting a bit generous with the bolded! As much as I want him to do good, he's been quite poor and very inconsistent for 18+ months now but anyways let's see how he fares under Carrick for the rest of the season, although that applies to the rest of the players too.

At *RB I should say. I feel like he’s the opposite of a player who is average then scores and people say they were great. He’s generally good but does something ridiculously bad and people say he’s shit.

He defended well to be fair. This is the sort of intensity we need from our full backs to get out to the wide players quickly to stop the crosses. Too often our players are content to let them have space to cross and assume the CBs will deal with it.

Some of the errors he made with his passing though is shocking, I swear he didn't used to be this bad on the ball?

Also almost got himself sent off for no reason, incredibly dumb.

First player that needs to be replaced and sold. Shocking at times and never good enough for us

Desperately hope it's his last season here.

Even a game like today where everyone else is brilliant, you just can never trust him. He's always capable of fecking things up by doing something stupid.

He's been here far far too long, he's never going to change. Hope Maz stays fit for the rest of the season and with us only having PL games for the rest of the season, he stays fit and we don't have to play Dalot very much.

He's just not sharp. The moment on a good breal where it was bobbling, for what felt like an eternity, in front of him and then heavy-footed the through ball is pretty much how I see him as a player: dumb

He insists on two inexplicable give aways every game. Always has and looks like always will. Gave him too much space first half but generally did OK against Doku. Being allowed to tackle at knee height also helped.

Doku can accelerate away from pretty much anyone, but Dalot actually managed to stay with him. Not once did Doku get past him on the outside. Dalot was fired up for this one.

Sadly, too limited in attack. Does many things right but then he messes up an easy pass.

I don’t think it’s a red. There weren’t that many protests either. There isn’t much force in it, but he needs to retract his foot. Could cost him.

He showed great spirit keeping at it after the early yellow - but then effort is never an issue with him. However, he was a bit fortunate with that tackle and he had a handful of patented brain dead moments that could’ve cost us on a different day.

that haaland shot blocked by martinez started with his braindead pass

he is the most "braindead" player I have ever seen playing for us.

he is homer simpson of football

It would have been fair it they sent him off but I don't like how the media is making it so egregious, it really is not that bad, yes he catches Doku but it was and never was forceful, just mistimed that's all.

On his performance, as many said, defended well but made few mistakes going forward.

2nd half, he was fine.

He clearly needs replacing eventually but he's still a decent player. Just needs to keep it simple.

He’s previously shown that he can be a good player as a right back. I’m willing to hope that this season’s unacceptably high number of brainfarts are a symptom of a not very smart player, rattled by playing so many game out of position. Give him a run of games in his best position and he might start to look like a very good footballer. This has happened once in the past, so can obviously happen again.

He is a decent back up at best. We can’t trust him as a starter. Can’t wait for Mazraoui to come back. Amad would shine even more with a better fullback on his side. He almost cost us the game with that silly tackle. Most players make the odd mistake once in a while but this guy has two every game.
