I actually think this season might be the worst season Dalot has had at United. He offers very little going forward, and he makes so many mistakes defending too. Sometimes it seems as if he can not keep his focus anymore and almost falls asleep. He should have had a red card yesterday. That was a nasty tackle

Did ok after the yellow. I'm still hoping that Maz comes in and takes the RB spot.

Maybe off the pitch he's really intelligent I don't know.

But on the pitch at least, he's possibly the stupidest footballer I've ever seen for Utd. The amount of braindead things he does, where it's like he just completely stops paying attention is incredible.

Full page article today on the BBC website about the Dalot phantom red card, absolutely ridiculous bias. They even point out the same ref has been in more or less exactly the same position earlier in the season with the same end result and that the refereeing bodies agreed that it had been the correct decision on both occasions, but somehow this is controversial now because it's United. Alan Shearer is the only actual named source that thinks it's a red card and he was famously non-violent as a player of course. Honestly the state of football reporting, the BBC aren't supposed to be doing things for clicks but apparently that's what the licence fee is for now.

Link to get the dreg reporter's clickbait bonus up if anyone feels sorry for him: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cn5616rve3eo

Game aside, he needs to be replaced come the summer, he can’t be relied upon in important moments.

I agree he’s had a (inexplicably) terrible first half of the season, although I thought he played (inexplicably) much, much better the last month. The last few matches he has agin been woefully erratic.

I think he is a very diligent player with good attitude, and a sensible guy, but I also suspect that his decision making abilities at a certain speed or pressure are very bad. He takes a long time ajusting to different tactics. I believe when he has learnt the possibilities within a tactic and practiced enough to make them habitual, he has the agility and technique to make a lot of ‘right’ decisions without having to think. But once his role is switched, he’ll regularily make horrid passes in front of our own box, completely forgets which space to defend etc.

He’s a good lad, but he shouldn’t be first choice for us under most circumstances.

He's so frustrating because he has lots of tools. Quality athlete. A lot of technical ability although some don't like to admit it. Sure he can't cross a ball to save his life, but some of the passes he plays on his left foot are very impressive. He moves very well off the ball as well.

But his mental deficiencies cancel all of that out. He'll overcomplicate an easy pass or try to play out of the back when we just need to clear the ball, or he'll make a braindead foul when we desperately need the ball and the opposition player is going nowhere.

Just this weekend, he makes a borderline red-card challenge in the first 10 minutes and also probably the two worst passes by a United player in the entire match, but he also completely locks Doku up while playing on a yellow card for 80 minutes. He's utterly mystifying and should not be a starter at this club, but I do have a fondness for Dalot when he's not driving me up the fecking wall because he's a tryer.

That header at the end, absolutely what you need from your RB. He's a good egg.

Yeah - to be honest he's been playing quite well recently with the occasional brain fart.

He just doesn't come across as very smart on the pitch, but he's definitely improved massively.

He did well at the back, didn’t have anything to do going forward, but I think his race is run as a united player unless he wants to be a backup.

First of all, he's a fullback, he often played as a LWB, which is too attacking and he's right footed. Second of all, we play on the counter now which is much better from him, because he can run up and down and since he didnt have too much time on the ball, he didnt feck up much today.

Can be a solid fullback on his day and it showed today though.

Just watched his interview, extremely well spoken and positive young man!

Did a great job today.

Solid performance. In this formation, we don't need our full backs to be spectacular. We need them to deliver 6 or 7/10 performances every week.

Dalot did that in the 2nd half v city and did it for a full 90 today.

A very solid shift by DD. No idea if anyone noticed it, but Diogo showed one move that we Americans call "around the world"...no idea what the English call it. It wasn't for show either...it was the right move in that situation.

I bash him more often than not (for all the right reasons) but he was very solid today. Not fazed for once, focused and did well

We called it "the Zidane turn" or "the Ronaldo turn" when I was at school

Yes, it was in the second half when the ball was slightly loose and ahead of him so he used that move to gain control and recycle it back. His technique, flair and ability to pull off actions is part of what makes his game so interesting. That's without mentioning his athletic capability. It's just the consistency and decision making. Hopefully he can show us more of that POTY Dalot now being back at RB.

He has taken so much stick, but lets remember he was United Players' Player of the Year in 23/24.

He is a very competent right back.

Terrible wing back though. But most were that tried under Amorim.

Was solid today.

He is probably the most put upon player in the squad, but one thing I do appreciate him for is his professionalism and his effort. And I always enjoy his reactions when we score a goal. He just goes ballistic sometimes. He reacts like a fan - biggest cheerleader in the team. And I mean that in a good way.

Played well today , he’s versatile so I don’t think he’ll be sold but he needs to cut out the brain farts

One of my favourite players and I say that with no shame. Always gives his all and you can see he really cares. Is definitely unfairly criticised in relation to others and his actual ability and expectations.

If the perception of him was different I could see him as a future captain but I’m realistic. He’s a leader in this group though for sure.

Does get criticism and sometimes too much which is not justified. Doesn’t suit the wingback role which made it difficult for him.

He actually is a good footballer, not elite level. His athleticism excels our other fall backs apart from Dorgu. He does make the odd mistake which I hope he can cut out.

The team generally will feel better once we have midfielders who can receive the ball and take responsibility.

Only way he would be sold is we get unearth someone like Hakimi or Nunes mould.

WPYO ?

Play him in his preferred position and he does well. What sorcery is this.

I rate Dalot as a RB. Even if we were to look for an upgrade in the future, I'd keep him as a squad player.

Really glad someone woke up our sleeper in chief. Good to know he actually has it in him to aggressively close down opponents.
While you're not wrong Amorims atrocious system had him needing to be Cafu or Javier Zanetti having to boss a flank on his own. Being the main outlet in attack and in defence on that side, and often on his wrong side on the left was asking far too much of him. Obviously he's far suited to being a fullback with a diligent winger infront of him helping him out. Will look miles better for it under Carrick and is already

Aslong as he isn’t the furthest one forward and in shooting positions we’ll be alright.

Agree with you mate. He's a much better player than most people on here give him credit for
