This is the difference between a manager with a plan and a manager who rings Giggseh up for recommendations.
So you think spending 45m on a bench player in these circumstances is good business?

If yes, Utd did made a similar deal in DVB

Given they have a set front 3 he's a good buy for squad depth and rotation, better than the Watford winger they were linked with.

Young(ish) strong target man with a great finish on him. Surprised he isn't in our radar especially at the numbers stated. Can't me much between his and Ighalo wages. Bit of nastiness to him too.

Liverpool doing this quick time and not monitoring for a whole window is a brave yet foreign strategy
Doesn't compute...

Not sure if this was really the case. Thought it was fairly odd in the knockout stages of the EL that Podence was preferred over Jota, and also in the first game of the PL. It may well be that there have been talks between the clubs for a while even though it wasn't reported.

I thought Wolves weren't selling players for a host of good reasons. Now without a word of rumour, Jota is Liverpool bound. And not cheap either. So deals really can get done eh? Good to know...

Hmm I like him a lot, he can dribble, can finish, is technically very sound. I think this is a pretty good pickup for Liverpool actually, they need depth for their wings and Jota is young and has been happy to rotate at Wolves.

£45m is a good amount of money for Wolves but can't help but think it will hinder them throughout a congested season unless they get a replacement in.

where did Liverpool suddenly get all this cash from?
I imagine we’ve received some sort of clarification on the financial impact of covid and the club journalists have reported were paying around 10% of the fee up front to which Wolves have been amenable likely in no small part to the Hoever deal. It allows us to pay the fee over a longer period of time by which point finances will have recovered and Covid won’t have such an impact. We then will have the the cash reserves to finance the deal.

I imagine with our other targets we struggled to reach such agreements.

I also imagine we’ll have a few outgoings so I don’t expect our net spend to be much beyond 30/40 million. Which as derided as the term is it’s unfortunately incredibly important in running a club sustainably and prudently. The key thing here is the trust in klopp and Edwards to make the right decisions for the club.

No football fan wants to be bothered by net spend or finances really, I would love it if we could spend huge amounts without selling but it’s an important factor to understand to know how clubs can operate and through which means.

My Wolves mates are buzzing with this, reckon he's massively inconsistent & you never know when Jota is going to turn up, they say they only see the best of him 6/7 times a season.

They were pretty happy at the reported £30-35m earlier this afternoon, even more so since the actual price has gone north of £40m.

I think he's a good player and will be an asset to Liverpool but ultimately I only watch Wolves 9-10 times a season whereas they see them every week.

Yeah? tell me if the team is decidedly worse than it was 18 months ago. Prove it and I will cede ground. You lot from OleOut FC have an agenda and it's sad to see.

Well like groovyalbert said 5 million for Thiago and seemly they are selling Wolves a defender who played 4 times for them for 10 million plus 15% of future sales on him.
This is the part that’s frustrating. All the other clubs seem to be able to move on their players for decentish fee, while we struggle to get a reasonable bid for Rojo.

I know high wages are an issue, but it just enhances the incompetence of whoever is responsible for player contracts and those responsible for player sales.

It's our "fashion" of being the biggest club in the world when we clearly decide to announce that stuff when we are not successful yet the most rich or whatever. We act big on money more than we should.

It effects our fan base, it effects our players, their wages, how they get sold, who they get sold to & how much, who we get and how much we spend and so much more.

It happens to Real Madrid too ( bale at 600k or James Rodriguez, fat hazard transfer looking like a flop) but they have such a lopsided league and well they dont have the Glazers either.

£45 million is expensive for what he's done so far. But Klopp must think he can develop him into someone who will get him 15 league goals in a couple of years if hes starting each week

£45m Minamino
As soon as Klopp signs someone, everyone starts having a wank.

For every Salah, there is a shaquri
For every Mane, there is a Minamino
For every Fabinino, there is a Keita
For every Allison, there is a Karuis

Let's just see how Tsimikas, Jota and Thiago settle into the "Liverpool way" before everyone gives Klopp a knighthood.

I think most of their big money signings have delivered barring Keita so far, their failed signings are mostly cheap punts.

They certainly are due some big money disappointments hopefully this season it begins to unravel for them with Thiago failing to deliver.

Don’t get the obsession with price amount. Its their money, and we fans should stop living in this fantasy otherwise. Such debate made sense 10 years before, not now anymore with huge huge money involved.

I really don’t see what people see in Alisson?

It's definitely the high wages. We've had a "socialist" wage policy for years though in truth; whereby backup and squad players are remunerated far greater than their abilities. I assume it was a mechanism to ensure squad harmony; Fergie believing that the highest earner being paid several times more than another squad player would sow discontent. Arsenal had a similar policy under Wenger in truth with younger squad players on comparatively high salaries.

I think in the modern game this is outdated though. Players on large contracts comparative to their abilities/contribution are happy to spend years on the bench and clubs lower down the league can't upset their squad harmony by bringing in players like Lingard on £100k a week (even if he were on a free).

If Lingard, Jones, Rojo and Smalling were earning around £35-40k per week (a pretty fair salary) I've no doubt we'd see 8 figure bids for all of them. The fact that they are paid similarly to the likes of Wijnaldum and Sissoko whilst being far less talented means we're going to struggle to sell.

This signing tells you one thing.

Wolves won't be bullied in the transfer market. That's a good fee and they will buy 2 very good players with 45m

Signing a player like Neves would be 60/70m

24 years old and never impressed that much. A very high fee. You can talk about Klopp and Liverpool having a plan, this feels a bit like a panic buy though. I'm sure he will be better than Origi and Brewster but then again, who isn't?

I fancied this lad to be the breakout star of the season but I doubt he’s going to play enough this season at Liverpool. He’s a shrewd signing for them.
Apparently he’s unhappy with not playing enough at Wolves. Not going to change much for him at Liverpool.

40 million isn’t that much money for solidifying an already world class front line. Worry over for them in terms of injuries up top.

Must admit I didn't realise he was so young. I think he's a good profile of player for Liverpool as he could fit in anywhere along the front 3.

I think he's a decent player but I don't see the outstanding potential, but still think he will be an okay signing for them. At 45m it's a no brainer for Wolves though as Jota isn't a nailed on starter and when he does start he's usually the attacker to come off.

We all thought the same when they signed Mane and Salah but then they miraculously discovered both suffered from chronic asthma, and thus, could avail of performance-enhancing supplements.

Jota and Thiago are puffing on inhalers as we speak...
