Do we need to sign a striker?

£250k with bonuses taking it up to that figure maybe

I'd love to see the following all gloriously come together during the summer transfer window:

Lewandowski -- pure class even at the old age of 38
Anderson -- pure class even at the age of the entering-prime age of 23
(Yan) Diomande -- not pure class yet, but he's outstanding at the tender age of 19

The obvious reply would be keep dreaming, lex, and in any event we need 2 if not 3 central midfielders. A pretty decent reply that would be, especially the part about dreaming. But if God put me on his lap and said, lex, you can only bring in Anderson if you agree to keeping Ugarte I would agree to that bargain in a heartbeat, regardless of how steep the drop is from Anderson to Ugarte. But to hedge my bets I would bring up Collyer, who to my eye looks pretty decent as a squad option in midfield.

But we also need a LB (I realize this is the striker thread) and I'd have no problem bringing up Amass to learn the trade while we manage minutes between Shaw, who's gotten better as the season progressed, and Dalot or Mazaroui in a pinch. Yes, I would like to bring in a LB, but if we hit our ceiling on the transfer budget with the buys of Anderson and Diomande, who together would likely cost us 200m; and our wage cap by whatever we would have to pay Lewandowski I'd go for it.

But there is one dilemma -- Lewandowski surely wouldn't come to OT to be Sesko's backup; and I'm not sure I would want to stunt Sesko's development by relegating him to Lewandowski's backup. Maybe it's doable to keep both happy, but I worry it might not be. But if it is doable what a massive addition to the squad Robert would be to shore up our striker option with Benjamin!

Honestly I think we should at least ask him the question and outline the plan to him, if the demands are too high or he wants to go and play with Messi fair enough. We then move on to those other names I mentioned in earlier post.

Yep, it's as simple as that.

I wonder what Robert's vision would be -- help United return to glory or cash in on a Saudi club? There's only one way to find out!

Didn’t it break down because he had some physical issue?

I might be mixed up but didn’t he have a an issue that demanded surgery that he postponed for the world cup?
Yes he failed a medical because his knees are fooked. He could keep Martinez company and regale each other with knee talk

Lewandoski on a free would be a nice one. Along with another young striker for the future

Not sure we would need the younger one but as a mentor to Sesko he seems ideal for a year. Can then sign a younger forward once he leaves or maybe Obi would be more ready.

I feel Ronaldo will be a great addition. Still a top professional at the age of 41 and desperate to win trophies after going 3 seasons trophy less in Saudi. He also loves the club, is scoring goals literally every match and is a great role model for younger footballers, along with being a great brand attraction to generate commercial revenue. We should go for him at all costs.

Do you remember the great pain I had to go through just to remove his toxicity from the dressing room?

As a bonus, we've upgraded our facilities since the Piers interview. So yes, bring him back immediately.

We'll probably see a lot more of Obi around the first team next season. Think a Welbeck style signing would make a lot of sense alongside that. With Sesko as first choice and Mbeumo/Cunha able to do a job up top if needed that's probably enough to go by without breaking the bank.

Feel like Chido may be sent out on a loan somewhere in Championship so he can get used to playing at a senior level. So it makes sense to bring in that older experienced striker to help Sesko

You're joking right...right?

Yes I know he's a bit older than Zlatan and Cavani were, however still enjoyed watching them in Utd shirt and just want a year of doing that with him too. I suspect though it's going to prove impossible as he will most likely want too much for INEOS.

Wonder if instead of looking for an old guy, it would make sense to just spend 10M or so on a striker doing well in a weaker league, like Kasper Hogh (papers say 10M) who looked handy for Molde, or the Croat who banged in 30 for Zagreb this year (I've not seen him and he didn't make the World Cup squad which seems odd, they don't have a ton in attack).

Basically try to find another Chicharito or Solskjaer instead for say half the money Zirkzee fetches from a Serie A side.

Or someone like Sorloth a few years back whose big move failed but is still young and has some talent. I guess some examples of that kind of guy who was a 30M type but who hasn't lived up to the billing but is still under 26 or so would be Terem Moffi, or the other Vitinha.

I can't say Obi has looked anywhere near ready to me in the few times I've seen him, so a 1-2 year older player might not make more sense than someone younger.

We would need that experienced striker either way imo

Strikers of the class of Chicharito and Solksjaer will be really hard to find for anything less than 60m in today's market. Unless we're willing to take a punt on an elder statesman like Lewandowski or a very young but outrageous prospect from South America for 20m, it might be best to hang onto Zirkzee but demand that he undergo a conditioning regime over the next six weeks to rebuild his less-than-fit body.

I don’t know if that’s true. He hasn’t looked ready for that step. Some loan time would do him good

Keep in mind that if for whatever we can't bring in a striker, Mbeumo has shown enough to fill in on occasion. However one looks at it, we do need another body on the front line. Cunha, Dorgu, Sesko, Mbeumo and Amad were just enough this season but we need one more pure attacking player. I haven't seen enough of Lacey to form a judgment and JJ Gabriel is definitely a season away but might get a few appearances.

I am confident we will get one, however might be something that picks up pace after World Cup

Old ex-stars past expiry date are exactly what we need as a team at this stage. It's worked so well for us in the past.
Yeah Zlatan was class until that injury in Europa and Cavani too until Ronaldo pushed nose out of joint

People can’t be serious about Lewandowski, man. Let it go

Yeah, I’ve said before I don’t think we really need a striker. Let Zirkzee go and sign a winger. Then use Mbeumo or Cunha as a Striker if required.

We’ve seen links to both RW & LW options so does make me wonder if Mbeumo will be seen as more of a striker option than RW next season.

Yeah Zlatan was class until that injury in Europa and Cavani too until Ronaldo pushed nose out of joint
Aubameyang is still available. Quite sure Lukaku has a few years left in him. We can fix them up and we'll have them banging 30 goals a year.

Zlatan was class for us, but I'm not so sure on Cavani. He obviously had that touch of class about him, but I don't think he ever able to consistently put it together for us.

I think you may be better going with Mbeumo as back-up striker where necessary and spending the money on other areas (mainly midfield). Not easy by any means (or cheap), but getting a versatile front man that can play across all forward positions rather than an out-and-out centre-forward might be a better plan?

I'm not against a versatile front man, however still feel that we need an experienced striker to help Sesko too

Yes Zirkzee is not it. We need a competent backup.
Lewandowski on a reduced salary for a year would be amazing.
