Do we need to sign a striker?

Feel like I needed to see more of him at Bayern, he definitely showed glimpses at Chelsea but is that enough
Depends on the money. He would suit the way we are playing under Carrick massively and is a different profile to Sesko.

One can hope because He brings a wealth of Champions League experience.
I really do hope the recruiters are considering this guy.
Many fans think we are totally barmy for wanting him and yes I know he's not the player he was. Just think it would be cool to have one year of him in Utd shirt before he retires to MLS. I know INEOS will run a mile at the thought though.

Should be all over Bowen. Won’t expect to start every game, prem proven and very good.

I can't make my mind up if he's big fish in small pond
He’s electric and easily good for about 15 goal contributions. We don’t need him to be a superstar, I’m a Sesko believer. We need him to provide cover and he would do just that across the front line. Also doesn’t hurt that he would be another experienced voice in the dressing room.

With our multiple needs, we can’t afford to spend too much on a forward. So for me Bowen would be perfect.

Personally depends how much they would want too?

I'd take Jackson from Chelsea at the right price still
I could be off but I remember him missing a ton of sitters at Chelsea. His overall play is very good but his finishing looked like it can make Mbeumo appear like Van Nistelrooy in comparison. Not sure if he's turned that around at Bayern? I also don't think he'd be available on a cheap.

Yeah really need someone more clinical

Just get Welbeck ffs How much would Brighton want for him? 2 years having Welbeck as rotation option can't be that bad, while we also have Mbeumo and Cunha who can put a shift in.

Would also help with our home grown quota.

May as well enquire how much they want

At least he wouldn't score against us again.

If there was any chance of Utd being interested in Wellbeck returning, they would have spoken to his agent and told him not to sign a new deal with Brighton.

We have lots of positions in the team to improve, why would you pay money i.e. £10mil for example for Wellbeck, when you get him for nothing on July 1st, if he didn't sign a new deal?

Makes absolutely no sense. Hence I don't think Utd have any interest in bringing him back.

I am confident we will get one, however might be something that picks up pace after World Cup

Question for you -- are you more confident that we'll sign a striker we've all heard of, such as Lewandowski, or a striker most of us have never heard of but sports a fantastic young resume, such as the striker version of Lammens?

I don’t really see Bowen filling a striker role for us but I do like him as a player. Think he could fill that role in any of the 3 attacking positions to one behind the striker as rotation, though his best has usually come as right winger no? Could be the Mason Mount we hoped we would we would get.

Purely for the fact Whitwell used the words experienced striker I would say well known name. Now IF he had talked about signing someone as competition to Sesko then could have seen us signing striker version of Lammens.

And what I think, and all I've got is my laptop and not access to the financial books at OT, is that INEOS will be reluctant to pay Lewandowski the kind of wages he has every right to demand. We're dropping off some massive wages this summer with Casemiro definitely leaving and Rashford very likely not coming back, but there is a risk of a dressing room disruption if we agreed to 300k/week for Lewandowski. We've been down the road of bringing in massive names at the end of the careers, and with the exception of Ibrahimovic and Casemiro it hasn't really worked out that well, and in the case of Ibra his knee injury is the kind of injury that's expected of an older player.

I say bring in a striker version of Lammens, someone who's been lighting it up another league that we've barely heard of for a reasonable fee of 20-30m since this is United and not Brighton. The risk is that it doesn't work out, which happens all the time with young players, but the reward would be immense -- maybe even putting pressure on our current first team attacking players.

Gut feeling is that we go for experienced option after the World Cup, however someone could emerge from the tournament which would change things

Unlike Garner, Welbeck's contract extension was a clause that was triggered after making a certain number of appearances.

Welbeck turns 36 years old early next season, and already isn't playing more than once a week. There's zero guarantee you get 2 more years out of him at this level, even as a squad player.

We want to sign an experienced striker, but that may be a bit too experienced. Especially if you have to pay a fee for him.

I think we'll basically try to spend very little money here once the midfield bidding wars get crazy and we also buy an LB (Shaw can't play twice a week it's just not realistic, and apparently Dorgu is going to be primarily an LW next year, my guess is Carrick is happy to have a defensive option on that side, it does free up Bruno a bit and it looks like he'll want to be conservative in Europe, and if Maguire starts we can't play a high line anyways), so maybe a loan for someone who failed and will end up loaned next year?

Jonathan David and Openda both might be up for a loan. David makes more sense for us in that Openda wouldn't really give us anything that Mbuemo can't up top. David at least drops deep and defends well, and while Cunha can do that stuff as a #9, we probably aren't signing a star LW so he'll be needed there.

Delap has been terrible, but he actually makes some sense as a loan if we're talking very cheap options, for someone. Maybe that's to a promotion team or some such, though. He really has been bad. I'm assuming Xabi Alonso will probably want Jackson back from Munich instead of him. He's probably not as good as he looked last year or as bad as he looked this year, and we have done business with Sancho and Garnacho recently. Can't imagine signing him long-term, but one season as a change of pace I could actually see happening even if everyone would be mad.

Striker is a pretty volatile position. A guy who has performed before but whose stock is low right now and whose team hates him but who is in his prime might prove to be the best option a year from now. Not uncommon for a guy to just have a bad move or bad season in a new league and then blossom later (Immobile, Sorloth, Joselu, many other examples).

Has Mateta’s stock fallen? Even Callum Wilson might be a shrewd pick up, would know he’s coming in as back-up. Definitely better than Zirkzee.

I wonder what type of striker we actually need. We create some quality chances, sitters really, that a long succession of forwards have contrived to miss. We need someone with a bit of pace who has a good conversion rate, hold up play a bonus. Whether that needs to be a big name or someone unknown is up for debate. We just need someone reliable, like Lammens. I’d be scouring the top scorer lists and seeing what’s out there. If we add 10 goals from a second forward we’re in a good place (if we replace Uncle Cas’ goals too)

No. Just no. Too many questions, his game isn't reliable, it is very untidy and he is not clinical.

There is a reason he didnt cut it with Maresca, and Kompamy keeps him on the bench.

The reason Kompany keeps him on the bench is that he has the best striker on the planet ahead of him and was signed as backup.

We'll probably see a lot more of Obi around the first team next season. Think a Welbeck style signing would make a lot of sense alongside that. With Sesko as first choice and Mbeumo/Cunha able to do a job up top if needed that's probably enough to go by without breaking the bank.

Yeah no. He hasn’t even really lived up to expectations in the U21s. Right now, I don’t even think he has what it takes to play in the Championship. League One, maybe. But I assume he’ll still play at least another half season in the U21s before being sent out on loan.

Yes, I think you need another striker. More specifically, somebody like Liam Delap would be a perfect fit, please. Sesko looks like a waste of time if I’m honest, but if you fancy giving us Sesko and £10m we’ll happily relieve you of his services. Please.

Nice try. Keep United tidy. Keep Chelsea litter in Chelsea

Experienced forwards with PL experience

Mateta
Toney
Bowen
Richarlison
Welbeck

All would be available for a decent fee I think

However mateta did fail his medical at Milan as they found he has dodgy knees

Wish the CLub to broaden their net, by getting the likes of Chicarito from other League.

I don’t rate Richarlison. Feels like he’ll just be adding a body to the team but not much more. He’s incredibly frustrating for a striker.

SAF would prob spend the budget on 2 strikers and win the league with kobbie and dalot in midfield

I do too, but can see the logic in focusing on premier league experience. Don't want to wind up with another Sancho, Antony, Ugarte, Zirkzee who can't cut it in the Prem.

15 g/a in 31 games for a poor spurs side. I remember him from his Everton days, he can be a real handful. Plus he can play RWF, LWF and CF

Agreed. A loan would suit him best. Then we can see where he’s at
