Do we need to sign a striker?

With Oshiemen, we could win the league
Why? During his time in top 5 leagues, he has scored more than 15 league goals once, and that was in his 22/23 season for Napoli. His availability is also quite terrible. Don't see how that helps us winning the league.

I wouldn't say back-up. 32 appearances in the league and nearly 2000 minutes. He's playing a fair bit, and I would not want him ahead of Sesko. If we can get him for 30m, I would take him, but don't think that's realistic when talking about Spurs.
He’s got 1 year left on his contract. Might even get him for less than 30m

People are obsessed with him & prepared to have the club spend huge on transfer fee, agent fee, humongous salary. Like you I don’t get why. Good player sure, but not at the price it would take

If I remember right then Kane did as well? But then again, Levy is gone so it may actually work.. in that case it would be solid business. Like his warrior type mentality.

Been an ongoing thing with him, speaks volumes about the striker market when he's considered world class and a "level below" Haaland. He's not going to be the new Drogba like some people think. If he desperately wanted to join us like Sesko, Cunha, Mbeumo etc and willing to heavily reduce his wages that would be something else, but his attitude is like he thinks himself above the biggest clubs in the world and that's just a massive no go from me.

Rogue shout for an experienced striker: Wissa.

Obviously struggled with injuries this past season, but wasn’t a problem before that. Got a high book value left for Newcastle which could be a stumbling block, but a late window swap (where you can cook the figures) or loan swap for Rashford?

I also think Alex Sørloth could be a punt if we go down that route and he is available for a cheap fee.

Knows Mbeumo’s game too. Could do worse on loan.

Short answer is: Yes
Sesko is good, but not that good. Plus he will have goal droughts, injuries etc. He essentially has no back ups as you can´t really count Zirkzee, he needs to be sold asap.
We should get a backup striker in the region of 30+M.
All those fancy new CM toys will do nothing if we don´t have enough firepower up front.
I'd prefer to have a more flexible, mobile attack like when we have Cunha, Mbuemo and Amad as the front 3, then keep Sesko on the bench to change the style of play when needed - rather than buy another striker in the Sesko mould which forces a more rigid formation.

Thus, some like Ndiaye or another Amad regen etc

Are you joking?
He’s been a joke, Newcastle fans can’t stand him

Absolutely, would take Sorloth as an experienced secondary striker. Or someone like Schick. Sesko will be the main man next season, predicting a class one if he can stay fit - had a few annoying injuries.

Unless we’ve got a massive budget, don’t think we should be spending big on another striker.

How much would Osula cost? It was a banging goal he scored against us, he looks decent to me. I assume Newcastle would want to keep him but I'm not sure how high up their pecking order he normally is.

I’d rather keep Rashford. Wissa has been appalling for Newcastle.

Any premier league club tempted by Toney would be idiots. Can’t actually believe he’s gone to the WC

We should go for Welbeck. He’s got a season left in him.

Welbeck sounds nice from a club POV (academy lad returns) but I don't think he's the right profile for our team.

If he was free, it would be worth at least considering - but he signed a contract extension for another season at Brighton and would require a fee. Not sure he's worth it, at 35 years old.

I can't see us getting anyone until we shift Zirkzee in any case, which is not a given as he's a popular member of the squad.

Given the service he's given them and his age, they'd look really bad if they were demanding a hefty fee if he really wanted to go. He's about as experienced a striker you can get in the PL and he obviously came through the ranks. If we're getting a backup striker it will have to be someone more senior to Sesko as getting another young striker in would mean they will not get much development time at all given the outlay and hopes for Sesko.

To me Welbeck fits the bill perfectly.

Welbeck coming home. He’ll bring goals and also, that good feeling factor. I have no doubt he’ll always give 110% every time he’s on the pitch.

You can’t quantify that aspect, but That energy is contagious.

But then i’m extremely bias, as i was sad when he’s gone. And just like Evans, just want to see him on red shirt again

Not him again.

Who is paying his salary to come to the PL? Not just the salary but the agent fees too

Overpriced himself out of a move before and that’s why he’s in Turkey.

If he has decided that playing in the PL is more important than money then someone will nab a good striker, one who brings other qualities even if he doesn’t score a lot in the PL. His pressing is crazy
But what if he's close to Haalands level ? Why should the wages matter ? He turned down a Saudi deal to further his career. If all he wanted was money, he would have went to Saudi.

Have you given him a good eye test ? His style is similar to Haalands.

Wissa and Mbeumo are close friends too. Newcastle paid 42 and Transfermarkt has him at 25 million now. The 30 range seems like a fair price with add ons.

Must be careful with Newcastle though. They've been selling players for 20 million more than they are worth.

He bombed in Newcastle. We know that. Whatever happened, it didn't work and we can assume that there's still a player there. Would you turn down Wissa for 20 million ?

Everyone talks a big game about buying low. Yet when an opportunity to buy low comes, nobody can actually do it.

We are seeing the same with Rashford. Cant give Rashford away but teams are lining up to buy scrubs like Anthony Gordon

Isnt the reason nobody refused to buy him....because he demaded big wages? Heds hardly going to drop them 100k per week to move is he
They likes of Chelsea wanted him to seriously cut his Napoli wages to join. Does that make sense to you or anyone else? Would they have asked that of a Kane, Haland or Lewandowski? I just don't believe ANY of them rated him enough.

Frankly If Barca with their FFP issues could find £335000 a week plus for Lewa age 33. I will never accept " the "EPL clubs found his wages too higher" excuse as regards Osimhen. Especially when folks try to pretend he didn't insist on much higher pay to play in a Turkey because he was set to take a rep hit by joinning a league outside the big 5. Because of how bad he wanted out of Napoli and how he had no intention of leaving Europe for a true over the too pay day in Saudi Arabia.

Frankly I'd not be surprisedif a side like Barca with Lewa gone, got interested and got to sign him on even less wages than they paid Lewa.

How much would Villa want for Watkins, can't help thinking the Osimhen ship has sailed by now

Exactly this. It’s trying to do something clever in the market, think a bit outside the box.

52% starting lineup rate in the Premier League according to Transfermarkt so definitely not a starter.

Wissa could be a nice target too. So with Mateta/Watkins/Richarlison/Wissa we have plenty of options for pl-experienced strikers who are also affordable. I do think we should lean towards taller candidates like Mateta or Richarlison because they'd be more dangerous in the air. Wissa is barely taller than Mbeumo.

He’s not as good as Haaland. A look at their goalscoring record will tell you that.
Yes he turned down big money to go to Saudi because he still wanted to play in Europe. But don’t kid yourself, turkey pay is far exceeding what he would have got in the PL.

I think you are overrating Osimhen.

He tore his ACL a few months ago.

I'd have been surprised if he was someone United went for though given he's a similar age to Sesko, but him being out of action has denied clubs like Spurs and Chelsea a promising signing this summer.

I don't think we sign a striker this summer. I think Carrick is happy to continue using Sesko, Mbuemo, Cunha or Zirkzee and focus transfers on CM/LB. Not ideal obviously as we definitely need another out and out striker. I think the only realistic option this window would be a cheap loan or free.

I would've loved Lewandowski for one year but doesn't look likely.
