Do we need to sign a striker?

I don't think we sign a striker this summer. I think Carrick is happy to continue using Sesko, Mbuemo, Cunha or Zirkzee and focus transfers on CM/LB. Not ideal obviously as we definitely need another out and out striker. I think the only realistic option this window would be a cheap loan or free.

I would've loved Lewandowski for one year but doesn't look likely.
I suspect it may be more of a forward rather than a striker. I think we need an extra body in attack. We’ve got 4 for 3 positions assuming Zirkzee goes. We could do with a fifth.

I think he's going to stick with Zirkzee, he's infuriating to watch but there is a player in there somewhere. I also think we're going to see Dorgu at LW a lot, and I reckon Shea Lacey will get a decent chance too. If Mount can stay injury free ( big IF I know) he'll add to the options.

Think it depends on how much we spend on another CM (possibly 2) and LB positions. If we get good deals for them then adding another forward will be the next priority.

If Cunha is going to be our LW and not our regular Striker, then we will need a new striker because Sesko and Zirkzee are just not good enough for both quality and experience as our no 9 squad depth in comparison to what Liverpool, City, and Arsenal have.

But 3 midfields and 1 left back would be my priority list above the striker.

Who is Zirkzee? :)

Carrick clearly doesnt fancy him. Was playing Mbeumo up front instead, despite Mbeumo clearly not being a striker and not being particularly good at cosplaying one, while playing out of position.

Zirkzee needs to go just like Ugarte does. It couldnt be more obvious that neither of them are good enough, and more importantly, trusted by Carrick

Of course we need to sign a striker. Assuming Sesko and Mbeumo-out-of-position is enough would be absolutely crazy assumption for United'a management. It wasnt enough even last season. It will be much worse when we play Champions League and three other competitions

He bombed in Newcastle. We know that. Whatever happened, it didn't work and we can assume that there's still a player there. Would you turn down Wissa for 20 million ?

Everyone talks a big game about buying low. Yet when an opportunity to buy low comes, nobody can actually do it.

We are seeing the same with Rashford. Cant give Rashford away but teams are lining up to buy scrubs like Anthony Gordon
Yes because he bombed
Let’s sign players on the up

Wissa could be a nice target too. So with Mateta/Watkins/Richarlison/Wissa we have plenty of options for pl-experienced strikers who are also affordable. I do think we should lean towards taller candidates like Mateta or Richarlison because they'd be more dangerous in the air. Wissa is barely taller than Mbeumo.
Only one I’d consider there would be Watkins but he wouldn’t come cheap so no to all

I think we definitely need to sign an attacker, preferably a young prospect who can play either side. I have a feeling Mbuemo might end up being more of a striker for us so maybe someone who is comfortable on the right to challenge Amad. At the moment if we get rid of Zirkzee then we really only have Dorgu, Amad and Mount as attacking impact players which isn't really a threat. I'd rather we get 2 CMs a LB and then an attacker instead of 3 CMs this summer.

Absolutely correct. Sesko had a few injuries last season too. We can’t expect to play large parts of a longer campaign with no striker

They likes of Chelsea wanted him to seriously cut his Napoli wages to join. Does that make sense to you or anyone else? Would they have asked that of a Kane, Haland or Lewandowski? I just don't believe ANY of them rated him enough.

Frankly If Barca with their FFP issues could find £335000 a week plus for Lewa age 33. I will never accept " the "EPL clubs found his wages too higher" excuse as regards Osimhen. Especially when folks try to pretend he didn't insist on much higher pay to play in a Turkey because he was set to take a rep hit by joinning a league outside the big 5. Because of how bad he wanted out of Napoli and how he had no intention of leaving Europe for a true over the too pay day in Saudi Arabia.

Frankly I'd not be surprisedif a side like Barca with Lewa gone, got interested and got to sign him on even less wages than they paid Lewa.
We are kind of agreeing here arent we? He is a top striker but the major leagues in europe dont think there is value in paying the huge wages he demands.

Honestly, half this forum want to sign players on the way down. Baleba, Leao, wissa. Is that where we are are, dont look at players who are playing well, looks at players who are playing crap and hope they suddenly improve

I thought the answer would be an obvious yes. However the argument for another versatile forward which allows Mbuemo or Cunha to play in the 9 when necessary I think is strong.

The three players you’ve listed are all contextually different.

Baleba is a young player that’s had a poor season. There was a veritable fervour on here to get him last summer. He’s 22 and progress isn’t linear.

Leao was massively hyped a few years ago. For what it’s worth, I wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole, but he’s a mid career, former hot prospect.

Wissa has been floated (by me) as a cheaper option to fill the experienced striker role. He’s off the back of a poor season, but he’d scored 19 in the league the season before. He’s not someone to lavish a huge chunk of our budget on, but if there’s a value deal to be done, especially if it solves the Rashford headache, then there’s worse ideas.

Ultimately, our pockets aren’t bottomless. We’ve got to be shrewd with at least one or two of our signings. We need more bodies than we can afford of top shelf, best in class talent. I’d rather shell out for top talent in midfield and at left back and compromise on the forward.

It’s ultimately about choices. We could sign Osimhen or whichever other striker people might fancy, but the trade off is no M Fernandes, Lewis Hall or whichever other top end centre mid or left back we’re looking at.

Ideally we could get a wide forward who could play across the front 3 and a backup 9 but too greedy

I'd sign a forward, someone that can double as a striker/winger....similar to Mbuemo. Someone like a Gabriel Jesus or Julien Alvarez....of course not them, but like them...I think versatility is the key outside of our back 5

They need height though so can cover Sesko too

I don't hear a lot of noise around Mateta. I would have thought he would be the ideal candidate given the criteria for experienced, prem proven striker that wouldn't cost a huge fee.

Because that is how you mine value. Especially in a market that has gone insane.

Plus management is trying to define some new norms when dealing with Manchester United. No more taking advantage of us. Splurging on the latest and greatest hyped player would signal business as usual.

Mateta would a good backup

Have INEOS been put off by the failed Milan medical

I would go for Vlahovic. I know a lot is made of his wages but once his contract expires in a couple of weeks, he will no longer be on that wage. I highly doubt anyone in Europe will pay him close to that so unless he plans to move to Saudi, he will need to accept a pay cut.

He's 26 and a decent physical CF. For a free, and on a reasonable wage ( that could be heavily incentivized with goal/performance bonuses), we could do a lot worse than him. I also don't prescribe to the idea of going for a 30 plus CF just so they can be a backup to Sesko. I would rather get someone who can be a genuine competition to Sesko to push them both.

Yes, he's not the most hard working off the ball but on his day he is a total menace. Given how there is no transfer fee involved, I would seriously consider him.

Quite a few in here laughed at Darwin Nunez and suggestions of him. They will not be laughing next summer, I’m afraid.

Would've been a good market opportunity for us. He's likely to come in on a free since his club has Benzema and no spot for him. As a back up 9, who can even play on the left, he would actually be a really good signing.

My first choice would be Nicolas Jackson mind but Nunez would be great. He's got speed, physicality and while not prolific, can score great goals.

Was on his way to Milan but his knee injury prevented it. Could be keeping people away. At 28 it’s a risk but could go around 30m

I get the impression it's reasonable wages that would prove the sticking point with him

Is be surprised if he goes back, Isak and Ekitike are already a problem for them adding another ST isn't gonna help. I'd think he'd want more playing time

I'm not concerned about him going back there, obviously will be another stick to beat INEOS with though

hes actually bobbins.

Brian Brobbey for me now, strong, hardworking and he also puts the ball in the net.

Wonder how much they would want for him
Wages would be more of a problem. He leaves because he can get his last big contract now, and he already is on 180k/week at Dortmund. Not convincend by him anywas.

We do, but seeing if Sesko needs a rest or injured a attacking three of
Cunha
Dorgu Mbuemo
Would be interesting. Not as good as if we signed some one though.

An odd thought but I wonder how dorgu would do as a 9
